Wonder why they made him do this circus though. Seems to be the Beatles and Elvis rolled into one. Then again, most artists in the US were picking up the pieces by mid 64, bracing themselves for the storm that would the Fabs' second tour in August of that year. Great guitarist Mr. Campbell, has to be said...
GC is a master musician hands down but in this clip he is obviously performing to a prerecorded track, sometimes all artists had to to that for production purposes.
he is so trying to do a beatles performance here - even cut his hair the same stopping you head Glenn you look soft - USA never forgave GB for the beatles and they've been trying to catch up ever since - will never happen
When I went to work playing bass for him in '67 he was still using that guitar. By then it looked like it had been used for a baseball bat. He had a tiny picture of Elvis scotch-taped to it with "Original Sound" typewritten below it. When he got the "Summer Brothers Smothers Show", Ovation fixed us all up. I still have my red Typhoon bass. Nice neck.
I think Glenn's playing a Teisco or a Guyatone here. It's not a stage prap, he's pictured with that thing in lots of Wrecking rew studio shots, so I would imagine he played it on lots of hit recordings that came out of Gold Star in Hollywood, like the Beach Boys, Phil Spector stuff, etc.. These guys made like 30 bucks a day back then ann had no money, asn they werent gear geeks, just great players.
Glenn's using a similar guitar sound here to the one he used for the lead fills on Elvis's hit record of 'Viva Las Vegas". A bad cat. Ok, so the guitar's dubbed, but it was almost surely done on a Gibson or Fender. Why not bring the real axe to the stage?
This song was a hit by Elvis around that time. Glen Campbell was a session guitarist in LA back then. He didn't become a superstar with his own TV show until a few years later. There were two different songs called "Ain't That Loving You Baby" on the radio in the fall of 1964. The other was a duet by Jerry Butler and Betty Everett.
Glenn before his MOR-Jimmy Webb era.

He used this guitar from the time he played on "Star Route".
Goes to show that it isn't all the guitar...it's the player.
He used Ovations for years, a Fender Bass VI in the mix, Strats later.

This is a crime against music
I am so glad he did not continue insulting us with this kind of crap. He was much better with things like Lineman for the County

@harmonicajohn I think it's the other way around, he went from playing good rock and roll/rockabilly to play that country garbage he put out!
