MY dad in his 04 civic coupe gets 40 mpg mixed driving! He hasn't modified it at all, but when i (and if i) inherit it, i would upgrade it with a Si Engine.
@JackPughPugh you shouldn't. it'll fuck up your transmission, and the suspension set-up probably won't handle it. don't even get me started on cooling system and tires/brakes. you're better off selling it and getting an si straight off (not the EP3, but the FA5)
why wont honda put a turbo motor into the si? they can not compete with any cars in their class/price range (focus st,wrx, mazdaspeed 3, gti, cobalt ss, srt4)
@Acc0rd79 Better yet, go buy a GTI, MS3, WRX or ralliart if you want an ACTUAL fun car in the around 25 grand (albeit the RA maybe pushing that) compact sports car category. This version of the SI may have gotten more torque, but it has had pretty much all the fun sucked out of it. Notice how they keep mention how it's more grown up and how smooth it is...that's not fun. That's what you use to describe a camry...not a bloody SI.
@ColdNapalm42 Yah I test drove the GTI. Im at the point where ive wanted a new car for a few years now but Honda has nothing on their lot and nothing coming that makes me want to run and put money down on a new car! I thought id always stay with Honda for life but times have changed. I really love the whole Hyundai lineup but im Eyein a 370z for my next sports car. OH well, Honda was fun at one time....90s-early 00's.
so lets review what Honda has really updated....the enigine came from a TSX about 7 year old engine, the interior was gone sooo cheap that its 95% plastic, the looks are soo UNSPORTY, that it looks like a 2001 car, and finally, the price..its more expensive than the previous one....so what the "UPGRADE"????
VW's way bigger diesel Passat manages the exact highway MPG and can also manage a trailer tow option (that Honda doesn't even dares to mention) and roof luggage (not just lightweight surfboards). All with WAY better acceleration and without need to reach the engine's redline!
Interesting...the Si finally matches the fuel economy of a V6 mustang for a similar price...now if only looked as good and managed another 104 extra HP and another second faster to 60, I'd actually consider it...
How come 7000 rpm is 'high' in an M3, but 'low' in this? I agree it's not as good as last year, but you get more power, more low end torque. So what if honda had a 9000 rpm redline before? those were in the integras and nsx's, get over it
@saboobuu 7000 for a v8 engine is ALOT!!!! Yeah the red line was usually a lot higher. Most complainers don't know that the high redline is only good for a lightweight model like the 2000's and previous. (my favorite 95 Hatch). These heavy ass cars will perform alot faster than the higher redline 2.0s. The torque itself will push these car much faster than the Hp of the 2.0
haha wow this wasnt the way i expected the new civic to look..... its boring and cant be jdm'D out lol it will just look like a ricer.... im sticking to the KIA FORTE KOUP..... WoW Know That A BEAST!!!!!!!!
I'm not quite sure what happened to Honda's edgy and some what sporty styling....it appears they are now producing more conservative styles, more in the vain of Toyota. That current Accord was badly designed, I think they need to go back to drawing board and let whoever was designing these cars in the early 2000s keep doing it.
@GezaMugolo Agreed, Mazda is in its prime right now, and with Honda building these don't pay any attention to me cars, Mazda can't help but to say, we are the boldest and fastest, Zoom Zoom...
Sorry, but the 8th generation Honda Civic was by far a better drive than the 9th. I completely disagree with Motor Trend on this point. I personally like the 9ths redesign and the rear design but the driving was very vague.
I own an 8th gen and have driven it for 2 years - the 9th gen was a loaner car while i had mine serviced. The difference is noticeable and I was happy to return the service car back and drive mine.
honda needs to step their game up the cars they have out now dare only focused on gas mileage they had crux's nsx's and s2000's earlier this year i saw pictures of some of the prototypes they should have went through with it.
I took one for a test drive and it is a very tight fit. And I am not a tall or big person. I cannot imagine someone taller than average height fitting comfortably in this vehicle nor someone larger in build. The backseats are very cramped. Only for very tiny, tiny people.
And the vehicle feels really light as though it could blow away in the wind. Kind of scary.
The price of the vehicle seems to be reasonable. However, the compromise is the comfort level in my opinion.
I'm so looking forward to getting mine!! I've been reading a lot of information on 9thcivic.com while I wait for my Si. If anyone is looking for some more reviews, pictures, and updates go check them out! I love this car :D
Civic?, more like a focus and impreza u know.Japanese car designers doens't make expressive or different car anymore.God damn, good times when every car got its own identity and history...lately all jdms look the same shit.
Dude, are you claiming the Fusion is better? The problem with American car companies is that they spend all their money on labour and cut corners on design. Sunbird, Sunfire, Cavalier, Fusion, Buick Regals.....oh my fucking god!!! And finally, what is with all the retro bullshit? That shit means that the American car designers have hit a dead end with ideas and are not regressing into the 1960's. This "retro" bullshit is an excuse not to move forward.
@Quartz482 No im not.The problem with american and japanese cars companys is that mostly all models look the same. They're all of ideas and creativivty.Im not expecting to see great things after 2012,2013 things are just gettin worser in appeareance, thats why i gonna be a designer.
@NarutoRocks2011 What an idiotic assumption. Because I'm implying that Japanese cars are "fake and gay" (more specifically, bland, boring, and overrated) you accuse me of being a "racist ass". LOL.
LOL, no need for that. Your bigotry will eventually catch up with you. Watch carefully.
"bland, boring, and overrated"
This is what you "imply" about Japanese cars (Honda for that matter). Car and Driver, a main stream American car magazine is choosing Honda (namely Accord a family sedan) among top 10 cars for over 20 years because of the exactly opposite reasons.
this new Si is so much better than the previous one, shut up about the rev line already. This is faster to 60, more composed at higher speed and has better fuel economy, cry all you want about 8000 rpm, I'll take this one for sure.
People forget the soul purpose of the Civic... fuel economy and its competence at driving. Sad, that many can't embrace change at its most minimal. Bandwagons are no good.
I am not a hater of Japanese cars, but prior Civics were much more attractive. The back of the car looks like a 2002 dodge neon. This car looks like a car for grandparents.
Why do people always let their jealousy get the best of them?
When the gen 8s came out, everyone was hating and complaining about the look and new specs. Now those same people who now own gen 8s are doing the same thing about the gen 9s. I mean they drop a 2.4 TSX engine and now people are complaining about low RPM? lol
This coming from a longtime Honda enthusiast who has test driven both the new Si and Lx. These vehicles look, feel, drive, and perform much better than the gen 8s.
@Kordrum Look, Hondas are good cars, but Mazda is on the verge of passing them in sales in some places and eventually in all places. The new Mazda is going to get better mpg, still not 40 i believe but high 30's. Its faster and has way better suspension/handling than a Honda, and not to mention more attitude. Hondas are just Plain Jane now and it sucks. I think that's the real reason people are hating. They don't want to see it go down but if i am buying a car, its going to be the better Mazda3
@Kordrum people hate the new 2.4 tsx engine is stupid...why would you want to get 190 hp @ higher rpm, when theres the tsx engine with less engine wear and more power... people just don't understand whats right
Don't knock it unless you driven it and owned it for at least a few years you hypocrite no-integrity internet troll youngster-got-nothing-better-to-do than try to judge cars by looking at the FOX news of the automotive world.
Love the Civic, but can't justify spending nearly 5k more for it than a Mitsubishi Lancer. I'm not going to pay the Honda premium when Mitsu's are just as reliable.
Most cars these days are becoming fugly in the name of fuel efficiency. They are supposedly designing in an 'aerodynamic' (i'll call it eggshell) shape with headlights pulled all the way to the front door and belt line at 45 degrees. If they want fuel economy, make some diesel models. Hybrids aren't the best solution. Exaggerated a little bit about the belt line though :p
could they be trying to sell hondas any more explicitily. Sounds like they read off hondas car description. Minimized all differences and downsides while enhancing everything else. "showing that the civic is designed more for fuel economy than perforance" 1:30 Have you ever heard that before in a small car review while sounding positive???
Also, does the civic need to have a million trim levels?!
Hate it or love it, good cars don't need to change. Look at the Porsche Carrera, Aston Martin's.This has evolved, not too much but just right. Honestly the person who buys a regular Civic doesn't want power, they want it to be quiet, reliable, roomy, good on gas and this car does it. And the Si is a lot better, with the more displacement Si owners will start to know what torque is.
IMO it's a better car overall but I'm not sure if it's a better Honda Civic.
God damn internet trolls.. Call your drug dealers and tell them ur gonna spend your money on something useful, save up for something like this, appreciate the hard work put into it and shut ur fuckin mouths!
Sure you can buy that shit Swiss fake cheese in the grocery store in the ghetto but that same Swiss cheese bought at the town where old tradition still makes it with homemade kind of care and attention is a totally different ball game. From the outside the two types of Swiss cheese look the same but one of them was crafted with more attention and care. From the weight and outer appearance, the average Joe doesn't care.
I just took a 360 mile 90% hwy trip and got 43.5 mpg in my new 2012 ex civic. I was using eco mode avg. 70 mph. I very pleased...i wonder if the elantra can get that?
@unRxPredator not sure either, 'compacts' are getting bigger and bigger each year so far lol. probably cause a lot of people bitch about wanting more room; then bitch that the car got bigger? I know a lot of people who want more [leg] space but bitch about it being so big.
Hey Honda, why don't you start producing cars with the 89-93 body styles again since that's all the punks and niggers like. Maybe in 20 years, they'll learn to like this.
@Neoterrataru no, i like it. a lot of people are just ignorant and since they hate hondas, they talk crap even though they really dont hate this civic
00' Si is still my fav civic till this day (rice equipment exempt), 06' model was iffy when introduced but it grew on me but this is just the ugly side of beige from honda. Usually there's a big difference appearance wise with the next gen civics. HOPEFULLY the next rsx or rsx replacement isn't gonna be fugly like this, the acura counterparts half the time looks better but acura now seem to be aiming towards the middle aged crowd lol (no offense)
By the way, Honda needs to stop working on their robot that no one will buy because its just going to kill our children and spill in the kitchen. Focus on the cars, there is your real seller...
This thing is not a monster. For $22k the 305hp stang is a monster.0-60 in 6.9 seconds is slow. My vr6 is faster than that, and its old. Sorry Honda, I love you but your Si should have around 230hp by now. I will wait for you, but only for a few more years, if not, I'm buying a Mazda...
Everyone who is currently employed at Honda's design studio should be fired, I don't think there is a single good looking car left in the lineup honestly
@rforracing I had a piece of crap 95 Honda that had over 300k miles on it. Until I totaled it:(. But still, I think that the biggest thing is that Honda's have the great resale value. People should NEVER look at cars as investments, but it just goes to show how greatly built cars they are. I have never owned a Hyundai, and do not know much about them, but they don't seem as good as Honda's
y couldnt honda put a 240hp turbo 2.4 zdx engine on the si? or if its so worried about torque steer, 240hp 2.2 from S2000? they couldve turned the engine 90 degrees to make it fit front wheel drive, r.i.p. civic
Almost reminds me of a prius! This car is gay a fuck. I feel bad for the Honda fan boys. Good luck changing your header on this piece of shit girl car. Honda just died
I can't believe Honda still makes digital odometer.. Late 80s and early 90s, digital was popular but it didn't last long b/c most consumers prefer analogue to digital.
It makes annoying to drive speed number changes constantly...
@sykku HONDA DIED? WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY THAT. HONDA IS THE 5TH LARGEST AUTO MANUFACTURER IN THE WORLD SELLING OVER 3,000,000 CARS A YEAR. THATS JUST CARS IF YOU TAKE INTO AFFECT EVERY OTHER TYPE OF MACHINE HONDA MAKES THEY MAKE 14 MILLION ENGINES A YEAR, HONDA DIED WHAT EVERY YOU SAY BUDDY.19 THOUSAND NSX WERE MADE IN 15 YEARS. 19 THOUSAND S A FRACTION OF HONDA SALES. AND NEVER MADE A PROFIT FOR HONDA
Does anybody else see the rear of a Toyota Camry? Seriously Honda?! Im at a time when I want to buy a new car, but most new cars nowadays look crappy. Look at the Acura TL for example. Complete poo. And what are the Honda Accord sedans doing without HID headlights?
Gee ive owned 3 different civics in 5 years (coupe Si now) this is fucking ugly! I prefer the old generation, it was so sexy. I saw one of those in town today and it looked like the Hyundai Genesis but alil fucked up design. I really wished Honda had stayed true to the original Civic design and just make the new ones with a bigger engine and more horsepower, now id go buy that. THIS Never!
MY dad in his 04 civic coupe gets 40 mpg mixed driving! He hasn't modified it at all, but when i (and if i) inherit it, i would upgrade it with a Si Engine.

A civic should not feel like a 'baby accord'
Ge0vone 7 months ago
could they be trying to sell hondas any more explicitily.
Logicinuse12 7 months ago
Hate it or love it, good cars don't need to change. Look at the Porsche Carrera, Aston Martin's.This has evolved, not too much but just right. Honestly the person who buys a regular Civic doesn't want power, they want it to be quiet, reliable, roomy, good on gas and this car does it. And the Si is a lot better, with the more displacement Si owners will start to know what torque is.
IMO it's a better car overall but I'm not sure if it's a better Honda Civic.

70 mph. I very pleased...i wonder if the elantra can get that?

unRxPredator 7 months ago
@unRxPredator not sure either, 'compacts' are getting bigger and bigger each year so far lol. probably cause a lot of people bitch about wanting more room; then bitch that the car got bigger? I know a lot of people who want more [leg] space but bitch about it being so big.
AznPryd4Life 7 months ago
Hey Honda, why don't you start producing cars with the 89-93 body styles again since that's all the punks and niggers like. Maybe in 20 years, they'll learn to like this.

This thing is not a monster. For $22k the 305hp stang is a monster.0-60 in 6.9 seconds is slow. My vr6 is faster than that, and its old. Sorry Honda, I love you but your Si should have around 230hp by now. I will wait for you, but only for a few more years, if not, I'm buying a Mazda...
joshuatree1001 8 months ago
OK, maybe the Accord Coupe. I would add the Accord sedan but the changes to the front and back for 2011 really destroyed it

@rforracing I had a piece of crap 95 Honda that had over 300k miles on it. Until I totaled it:(. But still, I think that the biggest thing is that Honda's have the great resale value. People should NEVER look at cars as investments, but it just goes to show how greatly built cars they are. I have never owned a Hyundai, and do not know much about them, but they don't seem as good as Honda's

y couldnt honda put a 240hp turbo 2.4 zdx engine on the si? or if its so worried about torque steer, 240hp 2.2 from S2000? they couldve turned the engine 90 degrees to make it fit front wheel drive, r.i.p. civic

I can't believe Honda still makes digital odometer.. Late 80s and early 90s, digital was popular but it didn't last long b/c most consumers prefer analogue to digital.
It makes annoying to drive speed number changes constantly...

THIS Never!
