  • Wisdom in his words

  • i agree with floyd westerman as far as the bible is concerned i believe jesus died on the cross for our sins true christians would help take care of nature. their are people that are pure evil they will lie and say they are christian they give christians a bad reputation geneses chapter 1 verse one says god created the heaven and the earth. i am part cherokee if i tell people that they would think im a lier that pisses me off im part cherokee and know it if you roll your eyes at me phuck you

  • Powerful and true words.

  • This is one elder that will always have my complete respect.

  • God bless him for speaking his mind! I love the song! Although I have a friend who once told me (supposedly is a "famous quote", I can't attest to the truth in that, but....) "Native American isn't blood. It is what's in the heart". Whichever the truth is, I think it's a beautiful quote. All of us can learn many things from the Native American people. I am not Native American, but have a deep respect for their culture, it speaks to my soul :)

  • great video.

  • Thank you for this,... good song, good video, Thank you!

  • It is said, the Greastest men served in the white

house, but, I say the greatest men that ever walked

this land never even saw the white house, much

    less lived in it.

Grandfather Red Crow was one of those men.

  • An Elder once asked me a question!

"Do you want to be Right, or do you want to be Free?"..and then He told me that the question ..is the Answer

  • hi llgkfkdlglglllk

  • "hip hop and rap" ---- the scourge of bad music. Funny.

  • RIP

it's a shame he's not around to appreciate underground hip hop like Immortal Technique and Dead Prez.

  • May The Wind Always Carry you To All The Places Of Heaven.

  • GOD BLESS REDCROW REST IN PEACE

  • His comments are so true. I live in Tennessee but visited cannonball and standing rock 20 months ago.The Sioux have a hard time there and the youth don't have alot to do. Beautiful country and wonderful people. God Bless Floyd Red Crow .The reason i went there, to standing Rock, to bury my good friend Richard WhiteShield. GOD BLESS THE SIOUX NATION !!!!

  • Estonko, you can see how much Red Crow is loved by reading these heart felt comments vnvhe Osceola.

  • I keep underestimating Floyd Red Crow Westerman, and I'm always ashamed. He should be studied by Native people of "America" for all time.

  • An angel on earth died this day. May he R.I.P and for ever travel in harmony.

  • Uncle of wisdom and history, your generation has reminded us of the only important things there are. While the white "common" culture reminds us to forget. We are the true Israel. We are God's chosen. As you have gone so will time. And this generation will not pass away. We love you. Sing to us with the wind.

    Yokoke.

  • Estonko brother, beautifully said vnvhe Osceola.

  • Well done!

  • r.i.p grandpa red red crow

  • Floyd, you will sing at my cabin in the woods forever.

  • Rest in peace Red Crow. We'll miss your presence.

  • A great man with a lot of wisdom and a great actor...Pray for Floyd to Get Well Soon!

  • all best wishes to floyd...a lovely man.

  • My Bro sent this video to me and I thought it was pretty kewl when we saw him at Puyallup, I got my pic taken with him then. We first saw him back in the 70's n my parents got into his music right away and actually learned most of his songs. My mother has since passed in 89 and I know my dad still love these songs he sings, he came to lunch with us at the Casino about 5 yrs ago too He's a Great guy with alot of wisdom and knowledge, we need more people around like him for sure!

  • Part I - Well (having listened to his song); I too claim to be of Cherokee descent. However, my father was from OK and his first tongue was Tsalagi. I am far from fluent, but speak much of my ancestral language myself. I have spent years researching and reviving the ancient pre-Columbian writing system used by the Cherokee (contrary to contemporary teaching).

  • Part II - I recently became a member of the Cherokees of California as a disenfranchised Cherokee. Both my parents were Cherokee (and Irish). (I also have some Pawnee, but I don't know much about that). So... where was I? I was a child growing up in about a 3rd or 4th gen trail of tears Cherokee refugee family pretending to be white to survive!

  • I love this man. When I'm at my cabin in the woods, I play his songs often, and the trees seem to sing along with him.

  • I love it when the trees join in.

  • A nice song from a great man. I remember him being in some X-Files episodes.

  • I am proud to be a metis, but I sometimes feel like I don't have a place anywhere. I don't totally fit in with white people, and I don't always feel comfortable in a native setting either because I didn't grow up on the rez. I have cousins that did, but I didn't. I grew up in Houston, Texas. Anyway, I know what he is singing about, but it still sort of makes me feel uncomfortable and lost, once again.

  • I understand what you say,I am mixed,I hear his song and I think, yes, part of me was there, today and in my youth I have fought for rights and against the governments and big bussiness.I also teach my children and in school they contrudict the history too. There is no winning. We can only try to connect.

  • I think KahkwaMc is right to a certain extent. I agree that 'culture evolves'. It's also leaving native beliefs behind, perhaps to be lost forever.

I like to think, hold on to things that you got and try not to be things you're not. However, if 'rap', 'country', 'rock and roll' is all you got, by all means take it and run with it. There's nothing wrong with with young natives expressing themselves.

  • I know Floyd, I love Floyd and I agree with almost everything he stands for EXCEPT his comments regarding rap and hip hop. Culture evolves. That's why Floyd has a guitar instead of a hand drum. I know some awesome Native rappers who speak the truth about how it is to grow up as a Native youth. Native rap is not black rap. It is more lyrical and often includes Native influences. Our youth need support and should not be dismissed as "not cultural" because they very much are.

  • kahkwamc,

I understand what you say.I think he was refering more to the young people picking up other cultures because they have no elders who can teach them our ways.A lot of young people grow up away from the rez too they have little connection to the culture.

  • I wish I could have seen more. Good words from Mr. Westerman, wish I was there.

  • PROUD CHIP*A*DUCESIOUX

  • Cool video. I was there but only caught a couple songs of Floyd then. It was cool just to be there for a short time. It was good for the Puyallup Tribe to put on this free concert for the people. Its time for Muckleshoot to host a all-native concert at WHITE RIVER AMPHITHEATER, maybe in concert with Native Rights Rally....Free Peltier message, environment/global warming message!!!
