@MrMZaccone You are very correct. Regarding comedic talent, this man really had none. Regarding originality in thought he is nothing but regurgitation. Nearly all of what Hicks says has been stated many times before. Regarding insightfulness/profundity of his thought, only rather simple minds are impressed. @homevidman1000 Oh yes. Everyone needs to stop posting comments like 'X is the best comic alive ' or 'If X were alive today they would be disgusted by...'

i honestly think if bill hicks had lived our entire entertainment world would be different today. the more shows bill did, the more well known he got, the more he would have exposed the cover ups and bullshit that entertainment was becoming. more comedians and entertainers would have adopted his style instead, and the industry wouldnt have gotten away with what they got away with so far.
@nashnwo1234 While we can hope that you are correct, I suspect that the opposite is more likely. Nobody wants to hear that the Emperor has no talent, or style, or passion, or anything approaching worth hearing to say, and the assembled mob tends to get nasty. The charm in imagining a world where Hicks is still performing is for those of us who understand what people like Bill were saying, and what they really meant.
I feel like the only people who've even come close to replacing him are Colbert and Stewart...and their both sellouts in a way Bill wouldn't dream of.
@nashnwo1234 I like the sentiment but doubt that would happen. I don't think any amount of protest or ridicule stops greed and corruption. But it's not clear to me what does stop greed and corruption, other than revolution.
@ChristopherDone i definitely think the right amount of protest would easily stop these disgusting entertainment industries from getting away with brainwashing morons into liking garbage. shows like american idol for example. but we need people to wake us up from this slumber they've had us under. and it seems to me that every single time someone is about to break through and become popular enough to sway the majority, they are killed or mysteriously die, and then they're never heard from again.
@ScottsGoldClub if he caught a glimpse of Rebecca Black's music im sure he wouldve taken cyanide and shot himself in th face just to be sure he wouldnt have to hear it ever again
Bill Hicks was an amazing comedian, social commentator, and person. He had a bitter, cynical sense of humor at times, but boy could he paint a dark picture.
@MrMZaccone I don't usually comment but I feel I have to... Your sentences don't even make sense. How the fuck is anyone meant to take your pathetic excuse for an argument seriously if they can't even understand whatever verbal diarrhea you are gushing out?
Not to mention, Bill Hicks DID make it you moron, he was one of the most famous comedians of his time. Regardless of you liking him, insinuating him dieing of cancer being good - is a fucking horrible thing to say. Your life sounds sad.

@cyanidechrist@banders2319 This was in Chicago in 1987 and is the infamous show with the "shut up" and "free bird" incidents. Another particular favorite of mine where he's combative with the audience is the flying saucer tour cd when he was in Pittsburg .
Genius! A legend who has inspired many, immortalized by his ability to reach others and guide them on their path in life. Misunderstood by many but that's simply because he can see through the mediocrity and banality of modern, commercialized urban life. We miss you Bill!
l realy despair of america..then l see bill and l realise that all americans are not part of the same machine that spawned george bush, rummsfeld, alabama, reagan, alabama, red necks, fundamentalist christians etc...then sadly you realise bill is the vast minority of american thinking....god help us!!..and im an aethiest!!!
No Bill, but when I go to a Clapton concert he plays music. When I go to see a comic I expect funny, not a lecture in why you're pissed off and why I don't "get it" The same way all artists MUST communicate through their art, this guy needed o get his point across or stop performing. Fortunately, cancer made up his mind for us all.
@nonconservative That would depend on how bad it is. Hicks never made it because he sucked. If he hadn't died he just would have sucked for a longer period of time. People make him out to be some unsung genius, another Lenny Bruce. I got news for ya, Even Lenny Bruce wasn't Lenny Bruce. Have you ever heard the shit he did at the end, just reading his fucking court transcripts on stage? That's not comedy, that's just pathetic.
@MrMZaccone how much you don't like a performer is irrellevant; fear is what keeps you polite and interrupting other people's enjoyment your putting them down not withstanding.
@nonconservative No, I've rethought it. Fear isn't it. If I were upset enough at a band I'd boo them. I know this because I've done it. Your contention that how much I dislike a performance is irrelevant is thereby proven wrong.
@MrMZaccone Oh yes, Bill Hicks sucked so bad that you were inspired to watch a 6 minute video of him and post responses to all of the comments. Go back to fucking sleep man.
@9999necron "Hack" would imply that I actually TRY to be funny. Mostly I don't ... Why? ... I don't give a fuck. Want to see a hack? Keep watching Hicks.
@MrMZaccone hicks didn't care if people didn't find his material funny, he thought yuppy dick heads who wanted to ruin his show were hacks. you have him entirely wrong. "the fact that you don't get it or like it is fine, but because you want to ruin it for everybody else thats why you're a cock sucker", did you even watch this?
@9999necron "hicks didn't care if people didn't find his material funny" ... Isn't that a kind of a tough spot for a standup comic to be in? Yeah, as painful as is was, I watched it.
@MrMZaccone yeah that is a toughspot for a comedian to be in, which is why he was so unique. I'm getting sick of talking to you, go back to Gallagher or Carrot Top, those sound like comedians you'd be into.
@9999necron You've missed my point. A comedian who doesn't care if he's funny is like an architect who doesn't care if his buildings fall down. It's the very definition of failure. Why is it you morons always bring up guys like Gallagher and Carrot top when we bag on Hicks? Know why? It's because you can't legitimately compare him to successful comics like Carlin or Cosby. Elvis is dead ... and so's Bill Hicks. Get over it and start finding someone else to worship.
@MrMZaccone he cared if he found it funny, he didn't care if others found it un-funny. difference, and if you watched most bill's shows on youtube you'd see a hell of a lot of people laughing at his jokes, so your point is dead..
@MrMZaccone I hear people laughing on this clip, just as I hear them laughing when I watch "Sane Man," which was where he first did this bit. But it's true that he really bit it hard onstage this particular night
It brings to mind an interview he gave, in which he related the story of an audience member telling him that they didn't come to a comedy show to think, and Hicks replied, "Well, where DO you go to think? I'll meet you there."
@theengagedfew I would point out that Hicks was mostly unwilling to meet anyone, anywhere but on his home field and that was mostly the problem. As for him figuring it out yeah, probably right at the end. Please understand, my problem is not with the casual Bill Hicks fan, my problem is with those who defend him like he was THE comic genius of the twentieth century and thereby become the very sheep he complained about. Sorry, I just don't see it but then, my sense of humor is pretty fucked.
@MrMZaccone If by "home field" you mean that Hicks was performing from an inflexible perspective, I say that you have a point; Hicks' "Evil Annoying Idiot Fucks" bit is an excellent example of it. But then, I think of another comedian who was asked if he considered himself to be closed-minded, and he replied "Yeah, but I can afford to be. I'm right." As for him "figuring it out," I suggest watching clips from his "Sane Man" DVD, which is earlier than this. A better word might be "refined."
@MrMZaccone On the subject of architects who don't care if their buildings fall down, one who fit that category and who wasn't a failure was Frank Lloyd Wright. Many of his iconic designs--including Fallingwater--were modified by those who had to do the actual construction, almost always without his knowledge or consent, and he's still considered America's greatest architect.
Hicks' shortcoming--if it can be called that--is that he sometimes cared less about his comic delivery than the message.
@theengagedfew Good point. Maybe if Bill had writers helping him he wouldn't have been a failure either. BTW, I've actually been inside falling water, great art, poor engineering. Architecture requires both. As far as Hick's "shortcoming" and I WOULD call it that. I think you're right on the money.
@MrMZaccone I don't think he WAS a failure. His CD's and DVD's still sell. Films and documentaries have been made about him. He was given a tribute in the UK Parliament on the 10th anniversary of his death. His opinions and his comedy still get people talking (400+ just on this one insignificant clip), and he influenced a lot of comics out there today.
He got his message out on his own terms, and he was heard, and is still being heard.
@theengagedfew Being a success posthumously in the way Van Gogh was a success is of course success, but not the kind I'd wish on anybody. I'll take a look at the other stuff you've referred me to and see how it goes, thanks.
@MrMZaccone Alright, we get it, you dislike Bill's comedy. Personally, I love his work. In my opinion he seamlessly merged philosophy, comedy, and politics. But hell, to each his own.
@handmiadenofgod Hey even I'll admit he had his moments. I just don't get the "comedy genius" label people stick on him. To me he just seemed really angry and bitter most of the time. I'd rather listen to George Carlin or Sam Kinison or even Doug Stanhope. When I listen to comedy I don't want to hate on people. I don't mind thinking or thought provoking comedy, but I definitely want to be made to laugh. Too little of that here for me I'm afraid. "you don't get it" is just a cop-out.
@MrMZaccone Bill was angry and bitter, thats what makes him real.. he doesnt hide it. And he blazed the way for doug stanhope and Carlin took his style and ran with it, Bills a legend and everyone in comedy knows why.
@lysergicpixel Carlin took Hicks' style????? You're out of your mind. As for the difference between Bill Hicks and Doug Stanhope ... Stanhope is actually funny.
@MrMZaccone and you would have been smacked down like the rest
if you don't get the joke , ask someone to explain it to you , but someone that has time ... cos explaining something to average brainwashed American , is a damn hard work .,,
@MrMZaccone "the fact that you don't get it or like it is fine. The fact that you want to ruin it for everyone else, that's what makes you a cocksucker"
@MrMZaccone if you don't like him, don't click on it...very simple. I won't show up at your house to tell you I dislike your taste in furniture, that's just fucked up
@MrMZaccone I'm the asshole? You came to this video clearly because you had a preformed opinion (yes, opinion), one that you are perfectly entitled to have, that Bill Hicks was a shitty comedian. That's great, but see...everyone here is here because they enjoy his stand-up, or else they probably would not have been bitch enough to click on it just to ruin some people's fun and shit on their taste. Maybe I'm feeding the troll, but if you ARE trolling, that's at least respectable
@MrMZaccone If the entire audience is laughing and maybe three fella's that aren't then the audience that is laughing obviously has something the non-laughing guys don't. A sense of a humour or the mental capacity for the Joke Bill was saying are possible substitutes for 'It". So, no it's not a cop out. If noone was laughing then it would be one, but that's not true.
@ProRanting Actually, try watching the fucking video again dipshit, that's exactly what's happening. There was very little laughter throughout his entire routine, a veritable testament to the fact that Hicks just wasn't funny.
First off there was laughter and second off you need to understand that his ideas were not popular. Comedy Central doesn't rate Hicks fourth best Comedian of all time right behind Lenny Bruce, George Carlin, and Richard Pryor because he wasn't funny. He doesn't make countless lists of Best comedians because he wasn't funny.Instead of wasting my with a passionate rage against Bill Hicks you should try and eat your own shit to prove it tastes good. You'll have better luck doing that.
@MrMZaccone he creates more then comedy in a form thats funny in a low brow yet intelligent way this type of humor actually needs a bit of understanding on how the world is working right now and as for the people in the vid if you didnt catch onto what he was telling them you wont realize bill hicks was ahead of his time and as for what you have to say, who gives a shit?
@123456789imthatguy "who gives a shit?" Apparently you do or you wouldn't be posting back to me. If I have to work for it then you should be paying me, not the other way around. Carlin never made me work for a laugh. Neither did Cosby, Seinfeld, Kinison (whose style Hicks copped 100%), Stanhope or many others I can name.
@MrMZaccone Don't credit Comedy Central for w/e reason, FUCKING FINE. But the lists pile up, Pal.
Furthermore, Fuck you for being a pretensious scumbag.
You've succesfully made an ass clown out of yourself being the lone "rebel" who disagrees with all the critics and people who devout their proffesional lives to stand up comedy. Saying with both hands up your ass that Bill Hicks wasn't funny.
The only time you should ever open your mouth is on your knees, cocksucker.
@ProRanting See now you sound just like your hero Bill Hicks, pissed off but not funny in the least. BTW, I'm far from alone in my opinion. I'm just one of the very few that will voice it. Hicks started off funny and lost his sense of humor when people failed to get the comedy HE wanted them to get. Talk about pretentious, it's now obvious why you liked Hicks, you're just like him.
@MrMZaccone Hahaha sure. Changing his act at the end of his career to do only dick jokes and dumb shit wouldn't have discredited him completely. Hicks was a true artist.
@holm81 Nice strawman argument. What in hell makes you think I'm suggesting any such thing? What I AM suggesting is that he needed to actually do jokes of SOME kind instead of just screaming at the audience and saying hateful shit about people and things he didn't like.
@MrMZaccone Have you seen the entire show? He was constantly heckled, that's why he's singing "Iiiii'm in comedy heeeell and you have put me there" - he had no chance to get up from the hole they dug.
@MrMZaccone Perhaps we could share hearing aid for financial benifit then. Let me try once more: I wonder why Bill put on a bad show AFTER he was heckled (by a drunk bitch) during what was a good show to begin with. He's in all his right to do a halfed assed shit-show [depending on how you look at it] after being towed down by drunk cunts and fuckheads.
@holm81 Joe Rogan and Sam Kinison have both been heckled like that and come out fine. You mean to tell me that the genius comic of all time, Bill Hicks couldn't figure it out?
@MrMZaccone Well, there's no use in getting into a longer discussion (than we have here already). I'll just say this: It's was Hick's style.. And persona (for better or for worse). He did have a problem.
But personally I like this show better than a lot of his other shows.
Hey Eric, ever hear this one? Der der der, der der da der.....

The charm in imagining a world where Hicks is still performing is for those of us who understand what people like Bill were saying, and what they really meant.

@nashnwo1234 I like the sentiment but doubt that would happen. I don't think any amount of protest or ridicule stops greed and corruption. But it's not clear to me what does stop greed and corruption, other than revolution.
ChristopherDone 5 months ago
@ChristopherDone i definitely think the right amount of protest would easily stop these disgusting entertainment industries from getting away with brainwashing morons into liking garbage. shows like american idol for example. but we need people to wake us up from this slumber they've had us under. and it seems to me that every single time someone is about to break through and become popular enough to sway the majority, they are killed or mysteriously die, and then they're never heard from again.

MrMZaccone 1 year ago
@MrMZaccone people who don't like his music just leave rather than be rude and advertise his not liking clapton. we can do that!
nonconservative 1 year ago
@nonconservative That's because if you actually go to a Clapton concert and yell "BOLLOCKS!" they throw you out.
MrMZaccone 1 year ago
@MrMZaccone so fear of that is what keeps you polite and interrupting other people's enjoyment.
nonconservative 1 year ago
@nonconservative That would depend on how bad it is. Hicks never made it because he sucked. If he hadn't died he just would have sucked for a longer period of time. People make him out to be some unsung genius, another Lenny Bruce. I got news for ya, Even Lenny Bruce wasn't Lenny Bruce. Have you ever heard the shit he did at the end, just reading his fucking court transcripts on stage? That's not comedy, that's just pathetic.
MrMZaccone 1 year ago
@MrMZaccone how much you don't like a performer is irrellevant; fear is what keeps you polite and interrupting other people's enjoyment your putting them down not withstanding.
nonconservative 1 year ago
@nonconservative No, I've rethought it. Fear isn't it. If I were upset enough at a band I'd boo them. I know this because I've done it. Your contention that how much I dislike a performance is irrelevant is thereby proven wrong.

9999necron 4 months ago
@9999necron "Hack" would imply that I actually TRY to be funny. Mostly I don't ... Why? ... I don't give a fuck. Want to see a hack? Keep watching Hicks.
MrMZaccone 4 months ago
@MrMZaccone hicks didn't care if people didn't find his material funny, he thought yuppy dick heads who wanted to ruin his show were hacks. you have him entirely wrong. "the fact that you don't get it or like it is fine, but because you want to ruin it for everybody else thats why you're a cock sucker", did you even watch this?
9999necron 4 months ago
@9999necron "hicks didn't care if people didn't find his material funny" ... Isn't that a kind of a tough spot for a standup comic to be in? Yeah, as painful as is was, I watched it.
MrMZaccone 4 months ago
@MrMZaccone yeah that is a toughspot for a comedian to be in, which is why he was so unique. I'm getting sick of talking to you, go back to Gallagher or Carrot Top, those sound like comedians you'd be into.
9999necron 4 months ago
@9999necron You've missed my point. A comedian who doesn't care if he's funny is like an architect who doesn't care if his buildings fall down. It's the very definition of failure. Why is it you morons always bring up guys like Gallagher and Carrot top when we bag on Hicks? Know why? It's because you can't legitimately compare him to successful comics like Carlin or Cosby. Elvis is dead ... and so's Bill Hicks. Get over it and start finding someone else to worship.
MrMZaccone 4 months ago
@MrMZaccone he cared if he found it funny, he didn't care if others found it un-funny. difference, and if you watched most bill's shows on youtube you'd see a hell of a lot of people laughing at his jokes, so your point is dead..
9999necron 4 months ago
@9999necron Hear anybody laughing on this video? No, me neither.
MrMZaccone 4 months ago
@MrMZaccone I hear people laughing on this clip, just as I hear them laughing when I watch "Sane Man," which was where he first did this bit. But it's true that he really bit it hard onstage this particular night
It brings to mind an interview he gave, in which he related the story of an audience member telling him that they didn't come to a comedy show to think, and Hicks replied, "Well, where DO you go to think? I'll meet you there."
theengagedfew 4 months ago
@theengagedfew I would point out that Hicks was mostly unwilling to meet anyone, anywhere but on his home field and that was mostly the problem. As for him figuring it out yeah, probably right at the end. Please understand, my problem is not with the casual Bill Hicks fan, my problem is with those who defend him like he was THE comic genius of the twentieth century and thereby become the very sheep he complained about. Sorry, I just don't see it but then, my sense of humor is pretty fucked.
MrMZaccone 4 months ago
@MrMZaccone If by "home field" you mean that Hicks was performing from an inflexible perspective, I say that you have a point; Hicks' "Evil Annoying Idiot Fucks" bit is an excellent example of it. But then, I think of another comedian who was asked if he considered himself to be closed-minded, and he replied "Yeah, but I can afford to be. I'm right." As for him "figuring it out," I suggest watching clips from his "Sane Man" DVD, which is earlier than this. A better word might be "refined."
theengagedfew 4 months ago
@MrMZaccone On the subject of architects who don't care if their buildings fall down, one who fit that category and who wasn't a failure was Frank Lloyd Wright. Many of his iconic designs--including Fallingwater--were modified by those who had to do the actual construction, almost always without his knowledge or consent, and he's still considered America's greatest architect.
Hicks' shortcoming--if it can be called that--is that he sometimes cared less about his comic delivery than the message.
theengagedfew 4 months ago
@theengagedfew Good point. Maybe if Bill had writers helping him he wouldn't have been a failure either. BTW, I've actually been inside falling water, great art, poor engineering. Architecture requires both. As far as Hick's "shortcoming" and I WOULD call it that. I think you're right on the money.
MrMZaccone 4 months ago
@MrMZaccone I don't think he WAS a failure. His CD's and DVD's still sell. Films and documentaries have been made about him. He was given a tribute in the UK Parliament on the 10th anniversary of his death. His opinions and his comedy still get people talking (400+ just on this one insignificant clip), and he influenced a lot of comics out there today.
He got his message out on his own terms, and he was heard, and is still being heard.
What failure is there in that?
theengagedfew 4 months ago
@theengagedfew Being a success posthumously in the way Van Gogh was a success is of course success, but not the kind I'd wish on anybody. I'll take a look at the other stuff you've referred me to and see how it goes, thanks.
MrMZaccone 4 months ago
I'd have heckled him too if I had actually paid to see this crap.
MrMZaccone 1 year ago
@MrMZaccone Alright, we get it, you dislike Bill's comedy. Personally, I love his work. In my opinion he seamlessly merged philosophy, comedy, and politics. But hell, to each his own.
handmiadenofgod 1 year ago
@handmiadenofgod Hey even I'll admit he had his moments. I just don't get the "comedy genius" label people stick on him. To me he just seemed really angry and bitter most of the time. I'd rather listen to George Carlin or Sam Kinison or even Doug Stanhope. When I listen to comedy I don't want to hate on people. I don't mind thinking or thought provoking comedy, but I definitely want to be made to laugh. Too little of that here for me I'm afraid. "you don't get it" is just a cop-out.
MrMZaccone 1 year ago
@MrMZaccone Bill was angry and bitter, thats what makes him real.. he doesnt hide it. And he blazed the way for doug stanhope and Carlin took his style and ran with it, Bills a legend and everyone in comedy knows why.

ProRanting 9 months ago
@ProRanting Actually, try watching the fucking video again dipshit, that's exactly what's happening. There was very little laughter throughout his entire routine, a veritable testament to the fact that Hicks just wasn't funny.
MrMZaccone 9 months ago
@MrMZaccone
ProRanting 9 months ago
@ProRanting Did you actually watch the video? There was as I said, very little laughter. As for what "comedy central" has to say, who gives a shit?
MrMZaccone 9 months ago
@MrMZaccone he creates more then comedy in a form thats funny in a low brow yet intelligent way this type of humor actually needs a bit of understanding on how the world is working right now and as for the people in the vid if you didnt catch onto what he was telling them you wont realize bill hicks was ahead of his time and as for what you have to say, who gives a shit?
123456789imthatguy 9 months ago
@123456789imthatguy "who gives a shit?" Apparently you do or you wouldn't be posting back to me. If I have to work for it then you should be paying me, not the other way around. Carlin never made me work for a laugh. Neither did Cosby, Seinfeld, Kinison (whose style Hicks copped 100%), Stanhope or many others I can name.

ProRanting 9 months ago
@ProRanting See now you sound just like your hero Bill Hicks, pissed off but not funny in the least. BTW, I'm far from alone in my opinion. I'm just one of the very few that will voice it. Hicks started off funny and lost his sense of humor when people failed to get the comedy HE wanted them to get. Talk about pretentious, it's now obvious why you liked Hicks, you're just like him.
MrMZaccone 9 months ago
@MrMZaccone Hahaha sure. Changing his act at the end of his career to do only dick jokes and dumb shit wouldn't have discredited him completely. Hicks was a true artist.
holm81 9 months ago
@holm81 Nice strawman argument. What in hell makes you think I'm suggesting any such thing? What I AM suggesting is that he needed to actually do jokes of SOME kind instead of just screaming at the audience and saying hateful shit about people and things he didn't like.
MrMZaccone 9 months ago
@MrMZaccone He tried to do that at the start though. The audience started it.
holm81 9 months ago

holm81 9 months ago
@holm81 I'd accuse you of being deaf but I'm fucking typing, let's try this ... I WONDER WHY!!!?
MrMZaccone 9 months ago
@MrMZaccone Perhaps we could share hearing aid for financial benifit then. Let me try once more: I wonder why Bill put on a bad show AFTER he was heckled (by a drunk bitch) during what was a good show to begin with. He's in all his right to do a halfed assed shit-show [depending on how you look at it] after being towed down by drunk cunts and fuckheads.
Imo.
holm81 9 months ago
@holm81 Joe Rogan and Sam Kinison have both been heckled like that and come out fine. You mean to tell me that the genius comic of all time, Bill Hicks couldn't figure it out?
MrMZaccone 9 months ago
@MrMZaccone Well, there's no use in getting into a longer discussion (than we have here already). I'll just say this: It's was Hick's style.. And persona (for better or for worse). He did have a problem.
But personally I like this show better than a lot of his other shows.
holm81 9 months ago
