Well for some reason I can't seem to import files from 3d max on to AE. I have CS3. When I finish my stuff do i have to save as a certian format. thanks, and your welcome.
It's impossible you can import a 3ds max file into After Effects because After Effects was made to handle images files. So you must to render your animation or graphic or whatever you already done in 3ds max into a image sequence. Hit F1 and look for render procedures, in 3ds max you can open the render window manager pressing the F10 button. Good look

I render into rpf format, you can save a lot of usefull channels like ZDepth, ID materials, velocity and so on

I didn't animate the hair, I simulate the hair using soft bodies, take a look at cloth simulations in 3ds max
