hi all, in the past year ive been listening to Bright eyes ALOT and love em. my favourite albums are Digital Ash and Fevers and Mirrors. Are there any other gems???? please tell me cause im hungry for more????
@oakfire12 Cassadaga, The People's Key, Rarities, Noise Floor, I'm Wide Awake It's Morning, Keep Your Ear Low To The Ground....they all rock. For a complete list, google it ;)
Conor Oberst is definitely among the few who seem to be very much awakened from the misconception of life. I believe that he sings songs like this one for a much greater purpose than most people may think. For instance, take a deeper look into this song. We ARE one.
I'm very proud of Mr.Oberst for the messages he has been recently sending out!!
@kaymbren His lyrics are taking a shift to the existential I agree. Not to say that they haven't dealt with the same subject in the past. Digital Ash and Cassadaga felt similar. I'd be interested to hear his philosophical outlook more pronounced. The only thing I've heard is that he once called himself a humanitarian which doesn't say all that much in terms of his conception of the "big picture".
@bubsadoozy existential? not anymore.. look at Cassadaga and its paranormal/psychic leaning and The People's Key which finds him exploring ideas like Singularity and Ancient Aliens --- however, to me when he screams, "I don't wanna play, it's a shell game" I think he's saying he's done trying to discover what the "big picture" is because there is no way to find it, outside of self-isolating faith and belief (a la the guy from texas that talks throughout The People's Key)
@jasonsaroyan ...that's existential. Both singularity and ancient aliens aren't meant to be taken literally. Assuming you know that you can't know is existentialism. The shell game is referring to more of a futile attempt to prove or convince or take absolutely assurance towards a certain stance. " let Jesus hang and Buddha sit " We have to be at peace with the subjectivity yet still be comfortable with our decisions. If Conor's work was put into two categories they would be political/existential
@leftftriteft I highly highly HIGHLY doubt that. Please research some interviews of Conor discussing the theory of singularity. The general concept is that eventually we will create an AI technology that is more capable than humans. This technology would be able to exponentially and infinitely grow as the new AI would be able to create an even smarter AI because its naturally more advanced than humans. This new AI would then create a smarter AI etc. etc.
@AKLRudy After this it is kind of up in the air as to what will happen. The theory that Conor seems to agree with most though is that essentially life will be lived virtually. The term SINGULARITY is what would occur to humans in a virtual world. This would be the point where humans are merged with the new technological world and essentially leave our human bodies behind to become a virtual being living in a virtual world. Its some TRIPPY ass shit but such a crazy and intriguing theory.
@okayjosem hey there! THANK YOU for replying! I think the others are starting to catch on as well! You and me are one of the first to experience this amazing endeavor and we can now be examples for what our perception of the future may be. if interested, message me for email address. I would love to talk more! Namaste my friend!
He took ayahuasca, LSD, MUSHROOMS. WHY AREN'T HIS FANS TAKING THEM? UNTIL YOU HIPSTERS GET IT AND STOP SMOKING AND DRINKING YOU WILL NOT UNDERSTAND. RESEARCH DMT.
@robertwestchester god......THANK YOU. "the people's key" came out a few months after my first DMT trip and i whole heartedly believe I wouldn't be as understanding & tuned into what his songs were truly about unless i had that experience - coming from an Oberst fan since Fevers & Mirrors. I'll push for what you said: RESEARCH DMT - it will change your life in the most beautiful, unimaginable way, I PROMISE you. namaste (:
@lerinak Agreed. Digital Ash is sensationally underrated due to its somewhat steep "grower" factor - but when it eventually grows on you it's not only the best Bright Eyes album, but possibly one of the best albums ever recorded by any artist...
I got a vinyl copy of the singularity ep this is off sent randomly with the peoples key when I ordered it. I don't have a record player. I think I need to get one now.
@connorlangley44 it was a b-side along with In the Real World, released to those who pre-ordered the album. You should be able to find this on itunes by searching for the title
this is from the ep Bright Eyes just released with The People's Key. You can get it off of iTunes. I strongly suggest it. this song is amazing! It hits home because I feel that this is the human evolution. He describes it so well in this song. In the Real World is the only other song on the EP but that song is awesome too. Check it out por favor!

I haven't heard anyone else say it.
This song makes me think of the technological signularity. I hope it come in my lifetime.
The lyrics line up so perfectly with it.

i still think conor got into the psychedelic underworld.. the peoples key is laced with so many allusions to the dmt "spirit key" experience.

maybe this songs promotes maybe a secular "singularity" and not a technological; maybe it's that common realization thats made by us all, all at once

No, but in all seriousness, this song is amazing. I can't believe I never knew about it before.
..Then again, Bright Eyes has about 185 songs.
