@baby43 I wish they still did. It's annoying to go to concerts and hear people going whooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!! Sometimes during slow, quiet songs. WTH!
@shigureism Oh for pete's sake! Do you HAVE to use the f-word??? how crude and offensive! I go to an innocent Osmond video to get AWAY from all the profanity on these boards, and what do I see?? The f-word! Why did you have to use this word? to prove you're a man? How crude. And do you realize there are ladies on these boards? do you swear in real life???
My husband and I just saw the Christmas show in Chicago as well. That was a lot of fun when Donny did this song with the dancers. You're right...he can still move!
Oh man this is childhood stuff but I had one of those three sided albums that folded open and it was the Osmond's versus the Jackson's in a basketball game. I would give my left nut to have that back again. Wait, my brother still might have it.
The performance of this broacast happened EXACTLY 40 years ago tonight. I distinctly remember watching this on 'The Flip Wilson Show' - and thinking about how long the Osmond Brothers hair had become. As a 10-year-old boy, it was kind of 'shocking, ' but they looked great. I think this performance shows the Osmond Brothers at the 'peak of their powers.' The young teenage girls started to swoon after this (ha!). Though I'm a male, I thought the Osmonds were pretty cool - and still are!
Im a cheerleader and we are doing a dance with this song in it ^.^.. Really up beat dance and song. So glad our cheer coach picked it. If u want to see our earlier dances, go to my channel!!
I grew up listening to the Osmonds and I still have all of my albums and 45's and they still play. Yes, it was Elvis that gave them the idea about the jumpsuits and Chuck Norris taught them karate and they worked it in their routines. Jay Osmond did the choregrapy into it. I will be going to see them next month in Tennessee. I have been a fan for 39 years. They are the greatest and I will get to talk to my idol Jay. They still perform in Branson. I like the Jackson 5 to. Jeannie Taylor
Awww This takes me back to the HAPPY TIMES..when I (along with my 4 best friends) Won 1st Place in our 6th Grade Talent show..our choreography was SIMILAR..but I put a bit of a TWIST on the Bridge!! I LOVE THIS!! (KarmasAngel11)
it must have been hard to perform in front of such a stiff audience, although the audience did clap at the end, it's kind of a weird contrast to the energy on stage
As corn-balled as they may be interpreted by today's standards, these boys put a whole lot of work into this number. The choreography, as dated as the jump suits make them appear, is beautiful and at times quite mesmerizing. Well done Osmonds of yesteryear! And thanks for the posting this vid. Great to see this number.
Yes Bill Belew designed the Osmonds onstage jumpsuits as he did for Elvis I held Waynes jumpsuit a couple of years ago in Belgium luckily Wayne wasnt inside as he was very tall. Very heavy like a canvas material they had to be durable to cope with the wear and tear onstage and long periods ontour.
When I was little I loved the Jacksons and poo-pood the Osmonds but not so anymore! I have watched this particular video a dozen times at least now - it's awesome! The Osmonds were fantastic dancers, entertainers, singers!! Cute too!!
wow, talk about walking down memory lane. I remember watching them on Flip Wilson when I was a little girl. They were my fav group back then. Merrill was always my fav, I thought he was the cutest altho all 5 of them are cute. Can't believe I never thought to check youtube for vids until today.
Here, in Mexico, We have just enjoyed with the new champion in Dancing with the Stars: Donny Osmond. His sister, Marie, participated former season. Both made us recall the TV Show "The Osmonds" many, many years ago. Congratulatios!
I love this clip!!! I wish they had performed more in black instead of the traditional white jumpsuits. Ah...the memories. Those truly were the good old days.
I can't not smile watching this. First of all, the outfits are hilarious! Other than that, how adorable were they! They could dance and sing, and Donny had an awful lot of soul for a 13-year-old white boy from Utah. Merrill was a super singer, too. I LOVE this video!
i first saw this video on tv in summer of 2004............i thought to myself, what had i missed way back then? i got a huge crush on merrill, love jay, donny could beat out Justin Bieber any day, their dance moves are terrific!
@allramful Lucky you! He and the entire Osmond family are some of the nicest people on the planet. I got to see the Donny & Marie show in Vegas two years ago and it was SO entertaining! I recommend the show to anyone. :)
This song was one of my favorites growing up with the Osmonds. I still love all of their music today. I met Merrill back in the 90's and he was awesome, very down to earth. Thanks for the music, Osmonds...may it live forever!!!!
lol.. I wonder what their kids and grandkids think of this video,I am really grateful I grew up in the era, late 60s, 70s and 80s, those decades to me,,,, produce the best, very best of every type of music you could think of,from soft rock to heavy metal, bubble gum pop, soul, r&b, funk, folk, dance, disco, you name it,, we had it,
I'm kind of 'new' to the Osmonds. This was great! I love the jumpsuits. A design that I wish other artists had used more often instead of suits. Everyone thinks of Elvis when they see them. One thing about the jumpsuit is that you must be physically fit, which these lads obviously were. I guess I notice stage wear alot because I make stage clothing. I know there's some jumpsuit horror stories out there of folks looking less than great in them. GREAT vid!
@usspike last year I got the chance to hold one of their original white jumpsuits (Wayne's) and it weighed a ton it was sooooo heavy I have no idea how they jumped around in it, it must have been so hot in it too, it felt like it was made of a canvas material certainly something quite durable that could take almost any wear and tear. And yes it was Elvis that encouraged them to wear them and they also used the same designer as Elvis - so I guess they are till mini Elvis' lol.
@lynjef7 I want to say that the fringe belts look familiar. Possibly by Manuel, but I cannot say for sure if he was the actual designer for these. The materials for these were two possible fabrics: Trigger Poplin or Gabardine. Both are heavy weight fabrics and don't breathe very well, so they're hot. But they take metal studs and rhinestones well. The garments probably weighed about 15 lbs each. Trigger is stiff and holds creases and ironing well. Gabardine tends to wrinkle and fade.
@usspike The Osmonds' jumpsuits were made by the same person who made Elvis' jumpsuits. I agree now the jumpsuits are kind of a joke; but they certainly looked good on the right body! I am the same age as Donny and grew up watching/listening to their great music. Enjoy!
I wished I had the chance to live back then. I loved the music back then and it makes me so happy when I listen to it. Music nowadays talks about innapropriate things which I can't stand. Thank you for uploading this video! I loved it!
am I reading this right,, back in 71,, I was 8, I really thought I was much older than that when I was listening to them,, they were all so SMOOTH back in their day, like I said before, THE ORGINAL BOY BAND<< and they really could play instruments

@twintime12 How can you watch this video and say they have no talent. The jackson five never moved like that. I think both groups were very talented. Shame on you for your negativity.
I absolutely love this video Lyn. The hottest men in show business were The Osmond Brothers and still are! Where did all the joy in singing go? Pure joy in everything they do!
Now if they could perform like this all the time without their pops knocking them upside the head, Joe Jackson could have learned something from their dad!
Any Agree that Both the Osmonds & Jacksons were & are Both Talented in their own way. It isn't a White or Black thing it's just God Given. These two families were Friends it has never been a Competition like many want to believe. Two of the Musical Families Ever !
@perpetual61 Well said, Perpetual! I remember both groups and loved them equally, as well as their individual talents and abilities. Oh, by the way, I'm black!
@SUCKMEISTER005 Elvis was the one who suggested they use Bill Belew to design stage outfits for them. Elvis really liked the family and spent time with them in Vegas quite often.
@SUCKMEISTER005 Elvis was the one who suggested they wear the jumpsuits. He also used to let them use his penthous suite in Vegas whenever he didn't need it. They were friends.
@SUCKMEISTER005 Elvis was the one who suggested they wear the jumpsuits. He also used to let them use his penthouse suite in Vegas whenever he didn't need it. They were friends.
Thank you for posting this gem. thank you Alan, Wayne, Merrill, Jay and Donny for such great memories. It's amazing how this clip brings back ALL of the Tiger Beat debates: J5 or Osmonds, Merrill or Donny, Donny or Michael. I've always had a crush on Jay (with the blue sash), and seeing him move reminds me why.
How GORGEOUS was Donny here??!! (How gorgeous were they AAALLLL!!! LOL!!) And that was the first thing I thought when I saw this, they're wearing the "wrong" color belts! LOL I think Wayne and Jay were the natural dancers in the family. They're all doing good, but it seems to be coming a little more naturally to those two... Love this! Thanks for posting it! :-)
saw wayne, merrill, jay, and jimmy in branson labor day weekend and they sang yo yo! moves aren't quite as active but they still looked amazing! and, lynjef7, we sat behind merrill's wife, son, daughter-in-law, and 2 granddaughters so he looked in our direction quite often all night!
Wow!! I knew I was crazy about the Osmands back then, I'm glad to see why! The Jackson 5, and The Osmonds had incredible energy, and coreograghy, and LOOKS! I'm not hating! (Well maybe just a little!)
@lynjef7 You are so funny. They are ALL yummy. lol. Did I ever tell you I saw Merrill at Red Lobster in Utah and after he left made my 10 year old daughter go and steal the straw from the glass he was drinking? That daughter is now 30, but I still have the straw!
I was such an Osmond fan-esp Donny (duh) I didn't know any other music til 5th/6th grade!! Wrote Donny once a wk,saw em @ Houston rodeo back in the day and screamed so much my brothers were embarassed and left me there to go out in corrider!!! I love Donny til the day I died-even married someone who favors him back then..lol

@lynjef7 Wow!! You MUST be a fan! I think the choreography is amazing - especially for the time period! The way the dance is planned so the singer is always showcased...brilliant.
Awesome! But people should please stop comparing the Jacksons to the Osmonds. They were BOTH brilliant, and they had their own style and music. :) The Osmonds were just the first white band earlier than the J5. The Jacksons emerged in the early 70's, and that's when all the fame shifted to them, the first BLACK band :D, but neverless, this song gets me dancing, haha!! Also, Donny Osmond and Michael Jackson were FRIENDS, not rivals!
@MrWillydoit I don't know-- the Jackson's were supposed to do it and missed the chance, just like Donny was supposed to do "Ben" which then went to Michael 'cause the Osmonds were in Europe.
@trevor40 I think they had numerous nominations, but not sure they ever won. I do know at the first People's Choice Awards they won over the Jackson 5 for favorite pop group. That's all I'm sure of.
I love this video and I love the Osmonds Still. I am still crazy for Donny. I wonder if I watched this when it was on tv. I know we watched the Flip Wilson show. If I did I probably drove my family crazy. Even at 9 years old I was crazy for Donny.
The difference between Donnie and Michael Jackson. Donnie isn't a dead junkie.

Elvis should have kicked their asses for trying to impersonate his style of dress.

Does anyone know who choreographed this?
MaMark808 1 year ago

Alan is the oldest he's in the green belt (later became Jay's) so he switched to blue.
Wayne is the 2nd oldest he's in the orange belt (still is).
Merrill he's the yummy one, the lead singer and the middle brother, he's in purple (later that became Donny's colour so Merrill switched to black.
Jay is the 4th oldest he's in the blue belt (later became Alan's) so he switched to green.
Donny is the youngest he's in the yellow belt (later purple became his colour).

@lynjef7 You are so funny. They are ALL yummy. lol. Did I ever tell you I saw Merrill at Red Lobster in Utah and after he left made my 10 year old daughter go and steal the straw from the glass he was drinking? That daughter is now 30, but I still have the straw!

@lynjef7 Wow!! You MUST be a fan! I think the choreography is amazing - especially for the time period! The way the dance is planned so the singer is always showcased...brilliant.

@lynjef7 Thanx for explaining that. I thought it was odd not seeing Donny in purple.

Donny`s hair never looked so long and healthy! Being silly but it`s true...
Classic Osmonds here, nice routine. One of their better ones imo.

Also, Donny Osmond and Michael Jackson were FRIENDS, not rivals!

those outfits are a little scarey LOL! Great video.
aiken1 1 year ago
@MrWillydoit I don't know-- the Jackson's were supposed to do it and missed the chance, just like Donny was supposed to do "Ben" which then went to Michael 'cause the Osmonds were in Europe.
cherry32959 1 year ago
Wow, they wore the jump suits before Elvis!! Do you think he stole it from them?

@akrukowski1964 No Elvis suggested it to them.

Did The Osmonds ever win a Grammy?
trevor40 1 year ago
@trevor40 I think they had numerous nominations, but not sure they ever won. I do know at the first People's Choice Awards they won over the Jackson 5 for favorite pop group. That's all I'm sure of.
cherry32959 1 year ago
@trevor40 No. Marie and Merrill have received individual nominations, but no wins.
gotham61 1 year ago
@trevor40 The answer is NO...and never nominated for one either.

I love this video and I love the Osmonds Still. I am still crazy for Donny. I wonder if I watched this when it was on tv. I know we watched the Flip Wilson show. If I did I probably drove my family crazy. Even at 9 years old I was crazy for Donny.
