the goal of any side in a war is not to kill more of the enemy, but subdue the enemy. Israel made a single mistake in this war- they didn't subdue Hezbollah while they could, they just hesitated when it mattered.
What does it matter who won? Fighting still continues; rockets are still being fired at israeli villages and civilians. Palestinians are being used a bullet stoppers for hezbollah who then cry murder. Barack Obama is no taken seriously or Hillary Clinton; no one is afraid of him. The merkava was consider indestructible and that was proven wrong. Israel was surprised at the fact hezbollah had weapons which can target its ships, and im sure hezbollah now has a large supply of those weapons and anti-air. Lebanon will never die and if israel was able to wipe out hezbollah in the war it would have, and therefore they failed.

@Kbrt111 if israel wants to destroy lebanon it has the justification because hezbollah is considered a terrorist organization and therefore they have the right to attack it. israels goal in the 2006 war was to destroy hezbollah however it realized it couldnt do that without a long war that would also result in quite significant losses to israel and its army and it didnt want that. israel probably learned a few lessons from the war but at the same time hezbollah acquired more arms.

Israel definitely didn't win. The obvious upper hand they have is their air force but on the ground hezbollah was able to defend itself and on many occasions surprise israel, in addition to destroying merkavas and a naval ship. Israel didn't expect the war to be this difficult and with the clearly superior army they have they supposedly should have done much better.
@haske99 There's truth in what you say. The IDF is evaluating and re evaluating their tactics for partially the reasons you 've stated. The israeli govt. believes the failure was its tactics more so than the army or ari force. but lets face it; the idf could have killed as many as 100,000 of hezbollah and palestine could be one long and narrow grave yard. Hezbollah would still declare victory regardless.

Israel did not loose a navy ship , it has lost 4 soldiers on the ship.. Israel lost less than 10 Merkavas..and just about 100 soldiers ..--thats in a month of fighting .!!! .It did not win as far as stopping the missles falling on Israel ..So it was a good learing lesson for Israel from which the Israeli military had drawn right conclusions.. ..Let Hezbollah think it won, one more such victory and there wont be any Lebanon left, let alone Hezbollah ..

The merkava was consider indestructible and that was proven wrong. Israel was surprised at the fact hezbollah had weapons which can target its ships, and im sure hezbollah now has a large supply of those weapons and anti-air. Lebanon will never die and if israel was able to wipe out hezbollah in the war it would have, and therefore they failed.

@Kbrt111 if israel wants to destroy lebanon it has the justification because hezbollah is considered a terrorist organization and therefore they have the right to attack it. israels goal in the 2006 war was to destroy hezbollah however it realized it couldnt do that without a long war that would also result in quite significant losses to israel and its army and it didnt want that. israel probably learned a few lessons from the war but at the same time hezbollah acquired more arms.

Israel definitely didn't win. The obvious upper hand they have is their air force but on the ground hezbollah was able to defend itself and on many occasions surprise israel, in addition to destroying merkavas and a naval ship. Israel didn't expect the war to be this difficult and with the clearly superior army they have they supposedly should have done much better.

The israeli govt. believes the failure was its tactics more so than the army or ari force. but lets face it; the idf could have killed as many as 100,000 of hezbollah and palestine could be one long and narrow grave yard. Hezbollah would still declare victory regardless.

Matlm: Israel's purpose of attacking Lebanon was not to save the captives nor was it a retaliation for the attack on the soldiers(infact, the soldiers teased Hezbollah in order to have an excuse to invade and attack Lebanon).
Israel's main purpose was to wipe out Hezbollah out under the US orders and to invade Lebanon as they did Palestine.
Fortunately, Lebanon kicked Israel's ass back into Israel with their tales between their legs.That's why Israel has not dared enter Lebanon again.
