  • ...HUH?

  • No D we visited Jeff at the studio back in June and the one his people had just finished was going straight to auction for 3 million...Super great guy...what do you want for an ex bank manager? Oh, you can have one of the big lobsters as I already have another...email me..G

  • lol I love Jeff Koons; you're never sure if he's being real or just perpetuating a persona. I think people need to be less critical about how much of his work is "his." Artists have been using other people to make their work for centuries.

  • @NewAgeGrave The reason for the "blending" is that he's dumb as a post. He just parrots various phrases, fragments, allusions... As far as using other people to make his work, although this is somewhat true (barely...), there is in every case, actual "work" that was produced by an artist. Taking a pool toy that is designed by somebody else and then asking a group of artisans to turn it into an aluminum sculpture is simply not within that historical narrative...

  • @CatZula Jeff Koons is in no way stupid - his work, those "pool toys designed by someone else" are actually about kitsch making it's way into high art. Koons as a Neo-Pop artist is fully aware of all the connotation of each work he makes - and they are his works. How is his "studio" any different to Andy Warhol's factory? I could give you a list of prominent contemporary artists who have their works made by someone else. There is a tradition in it.

  • @NewAgeGrave He's dumb. You're talking about somebody who thought he should be able to copyright all balloon dogs. Similarly, the man, himself, has asserted his work has no meaning and provides no commentary on the objects, themselves, so it has little to do with getting "kitsch" making its way into "high art". Wasn't that Warhol's thing (and countless others before Koons)?

  • @CatZula I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts, so I really don't need to continue this argument with you, since you are so obviously convinced you're right. I like Jeff Koons, and I know enough art history to be able to place his work contextually within both Modern and Contemporary art frameworks. But if you think you know more than me, then nothing I can say on here will make any difference.

  • @NewAgeGrave Well, it's true, a BFA means little to me--C's (and even D's) earn degrees so the degree alone is meaningless...it's what you say and do with it which is meaningful. I hope your art diverges significantly from the path Koons has set. And at least you've learned your history. But you've said nothing to qualify your statement about artists utilizing factory-like conditions for centuries.

  • @CatZula I don't need to justify anything to you. Pick up a book and draw your own conclusions. I don't care.

  • @NewAgeGrave Lol. I've waded through art history. Koons employs nothing that looks remotely like the apprentice system or traditional assistants. The recent assertions to the contrary are his handlers' simple-minded attempt to deflect accusations of lack of talent or skill (he, himself, has neither). You reveal yourself to be another Koons crony with nothing to actually say.

  • @NewAgeGrave As far as other contemporary artists using others to fabricate their work, your line of reasoning does nothing to address my point: Koons' factory is in no way a continuation of historical practices. Warhol does not constitutes "centuries" of artistic tradition. And even Warhol painted and drew...he even made many of his more famous silkscreens...Koons has zero skills...

  • yeah, jeff koons is a chump, but damn can his assistants paint

  • @wolfumz They should be getting the credit...

  • Pure, unfiltered, 100%, grade-a delusion. Definitely art I love to hate.

  • @boogiebuddy: There's nothing to get. Koons' work is propped up by curators and dealers who write elaborate explanations for work which is fundamentally meaningless...plenty of other artists making money hand over fist who are actual artists...

  • @CatZula A lot of his work is wonderful, funny, fresh, aesthetical, personal, cultural/cultural context (especially 50s/60s) etc ....

  • @sclapione You're talking about a man who has said, "Pool toys are inflatable, just like people." He's also asserted that his work, "tells the viewer that they don’t have to come to it with any history except their own." He isn't trying to create any of the associations you're assigning to his work. Any meaning to his work is a happenstance fluke of placing large, disconnected objects manufactured by real artists in a gallery/museum setting. Koons is a nobody...(compared to Hamilton, etc...)

  • love koons!

  • scusate ,,,chiamatela invidia ,ma in questi casi mi viene in mente il cugino vincent ,e poi ha le mani pulite ..credo di essere invidioso visto le sue mani .

  • you all are on the right track here- I have to say that JK gave the commencement address at my old alma mater Cranbrook a few years ago.

It's not the work per se- it's rather the total disengagement from the 300 million or so people in the U.S. and the rest of the world. PBS- why do you wonder why they want to pull your plug?

  • A genius eh...who apparently can't pronounce "Virile" correctly and who instigates frivolous lawsuits for no reason (he's withdrawn from the ballon-dog suit). Koons isn't even Ricky Martin...he's the Milli Vanilli of art (Who?...exactly).

  • @CatZula That's only one aspect, he is one of the Greats, right next to the early pop artists (and no, not the ones you probably only know)

  • KOONS IS A GENIUS

  • We have Bach, Bethoven, Mozart and also...The very succesful and millionaire Ricky Martin! Well, this guy is the Ricki Martin in art!

  • I can't say Jeff Koons is a real artist , but i wouldn't mind to call him as an art director , because he more directing people to realize the idea than doing the work by himself . I would like to work in his studio as long he pay top dollars .

  • TOTAL HORSE SHIT

  • Want your own Jeff Koons dolphin, cheap? Google: Intex model # 58539.

  • I've heard a LOT of people say that Henhousered! I'm keeping out of it! :D

  • Jeff Koons. I like him.

  • This guy is like the business management of brain surgery.

  • jeff koons is a complete faggot i hope he has a great day and dies HOMOSEX

  • -Shrugs- Koons does his own work. He devises what the painting or sculpture will be, then uses his assistants (which he teaches himself) to carry out his idea. He came up with the painting methods himself. My art professor had a friend that worked for Koons, and they work on a 1'x1' portion of a painting for a month or so. He's also OCD and pretty much crazy. But I like his work. I like all art. Why must people be hypocrites and define art? There's no such thing as "real" or "true" art.

  • @SoulEaterEthan Um, please don't dictate to me what I can consider real art. That's hypocritical. As far as Koons doing his own work, I'm going to ignore your comments as blatant ignorance. Telling s group of people to manufacture an aluminum lobster that is, more or less an inflatable toy with the scale slightly shifted is not "devising his own work." Also, I've never heard nor seen any evidence that Jeff instructs his employees in any artistic techniques.

  • @SoulEaterEthan And actually, quite the contrary, his balloon dogs and most of his other sculptures weren't fabricated at his "studio"--they were made by independent contractors around the world.

  • What makes Koons artwork worth millions?

His michael jackson and his monkey sculpture looks like something I would see at a flea market. I would not be suprised to see it near a black velvet painting of some panther climbing a tree. I am sure he can produce good art, I just haven't seen any from him.

  • @romeodaphne oh for goodness sake!!!! what is GOOD art then????? why r u such an ignorant????

  • @sophie22518 if you have ever done a work of art, you could answer that question yourself. Wanna see some good art google "Banksy" Or "Powhida."

  • @romeodaphne it is your subjective opinion....

  • @sophie22518 tis awefully astute of you. BTW how do you like Koons nude images? ( his "Made in Heaven" series) In YOUR opinion, do you consider that good art? Or just over priced porno?

  • @romeodaphne How about Tracey Emin's bed Is it a GOOD art?? or maybe is it ART at all?? you know what we could go on and on like this forever....

  • Comment removed

  • @romeodaphne oh dear..... obviously u don't like somebody to have an independent opinion.... so yawn yourself.....

  • @sophie22518 to say koons is a great artist is like me hiring a great dancer and saying I can dance because I tell them to do the tango. Or I am a great airline pilot, because I pay them to fly me around. Duhh

  • @sophie22518 Tracey Emin is brilliant, but very visceral. If you are not, it's hard to comprehend.

  • @romeodaphne ha ha ha ha It doesn't get much more boring than that, middle of the road, almost mediocre visuals and messages .... Please ! Atleast name a worthy opponent !

  • @sclapione huh?

  • @sclapionego ahead and like koons, who cares? I think he stands for everything that is wrong with art today. He doesn't even do the art, just like terry guetta, People who like the art he has slapped a logo on, pay him multiple thousands of dollars for giant sculptures and inadvertantly fuel the hype. You tell me the DEEPER meaning of his artwork....explain to me, the ignorant person here, what is soo great about his work.

  • "I like turtles"

  • Everyone of you assholes who made these negative comments about Koons please tell me where I can look at your art. Koons puts lots of artist to work!!! Why do all you wannabe artist sit around making fun of anyone whose made it successfully in art? Get off your computers and shut up until you are able to become even as remotely successful as Koons.

  • @kdavisification sorry you hit the nail on the head there, sure he's finacially successful, he looks after the bottom line. But his work is as empty as those inflatables he's been peddaling for years. I like how you're calling everyone wannabe's thats great! ill informed nonsense but it tickled me. Well done sir.

  • @Henners191 Dear Madam, He's successful and you aren't. The End

  • @kdavisification That's a lovely little story, better than you're last. Jeff will be pleased you tried your hardest to insult strangers on his behalf. Oh wait he's so successful he dosen't care if you exist or not. Shame. I'm willing to bet that I am more successful than Jeff Koons (at replying to sub-intelligent remarks, he's rubbish at that)

  • @Henners191 lol ... Omg. I looked at your channel. Your taste is what Jeff Koons uses as satire. TOO funny ! No wonder someone with such a junk adhd taste, and NO visual/aesthetical concept, wouldn't get it hehe ha ha ha ha ha

  • @sclapione Ha you creepily checked out my channel, like only a strange and lonely person would and instantly decided what I'm like. Just like you assumed what Koons likes. Amazing. heeheehaha (your manic laugh at the end sealed the deal for me). This is satire, you are the punch line.

  • Ha! Picasso was painting something like 5 paintings a day near the end of his life...Koons is a big nothing in the world of art history...

  • @CatZula You're an idiot!

  • @kdavisification Wow, man, I'm hurt...really...you've cut me to the quick with your eloquent dissection of my foibles. I can see that, by your intelligent posts, you are exactly the type of person of sound judgment who would have reasoned two years ago that based on Bernie Madoff's already good fortune, that any investment with him was bound to succeed. I dare not expose my feeble work to your advanced analytical skills.

  • @CatZula Thank you.

  • @kdavisification No my friend, thank you. You are the quintessential Jeff Koons advocate.

  • What a hypocrite, with his platitudes that are spoken so falsely - it literally makes one's gorge rise

  • Im not so impressed with Koons as an artist. However, I'm totally impressed with the artists working on those peices....Do a story on them....They deserve the attention.

  • Cool stuff, i wonder what Verrocchio would make of Jeff Studio set up!

  • Nice clean shirt there Jeff, do any of your artwork yourself? or do you just watch.....

  • @Henners191 they all have nice clean shirts in his studio, maybe they get dirty, but wanted to look good on filming day....

  • @Henners191 Do you do any art work? You wannabe.

  • Does anybody else sort of loathe Jeff Koons?

  • I loath how he speaks about his work.
