Unfortunately, efficiency doesn't get ratings. Ramsay usually isn't all that harsh if you watch his other shows, he just throws on this "devil" persona for the sake of the show. I'm willing to bet it's partly because the producers want to pick the dumbest people and film them squirming in the worst situations. THAT'S what gets ratings.
