Thanks Murray, I asked because i'm familiar with another kind of dynamic soaring which is borrowed from albatrosses. We fly RC Gliders downwind and dive through the windshear behind a ridge, gaining airspeed as we pass from a tail wind to calm wind, then we turn around and fly back up over the top, through the windshear again into a head wind. Each time we pass through the shear we gain airspeed... repeat process and go very fast.
Hi Rodger, yep I'm familiar with that use of the term, I've (sort of) used this (in reverse!) mainly in the winter... when by dropping below the wall/dune/spine backed ridge.. I get out of the wind.... while the wing remains in the 'back lobe' of the ridge lift...
NOTE: Once the pilots out of the wind the Physics of the change in (location) of the (PARASITIC) drag results in a REDUCTION in airspeed...
Hi, 'Dynamic' as in movement of air forced upwards by the ridge, in the same way as kids in a shopping center walking DOWN the UP escolater provided they are walking down (glider decending) at the same rate as the escolater (wind rising up the ridge i.e. 'ridge lift') is moving up the kids (our glider) can remain at the same height as we fly left/right along in the 'dynamic' (ridge) lift
Hi this is Bishop Hill in Fife (Scotland) the hill has a sailplane (winch launch & aero tow) center about a mile from the hill, the main face flown here takes a W to SW (prevailing) wind, it also has a NW face, and further round the ridge is North facing.
Yep that day I flew up from about 100ft up the slope (just above the rock outcrop) early on in the clip I zoom in on Eric still hiking up the hill from the 4x4 pickup... I guess I've only actualy walked up Bishop on about 1/3rd of the days I've flown there!

If you tried that under a canopy you'd be crazy!
Safe flying

Hi, if you don't mind me asking, what is dynamic soaring in paragliding speak? Nice filming by the way. Best regards
