I love mine. The 3" inch .410 shells hurt like a mofo to shoot. That 4 buck ball 2.5" shell from Federal is the best round I've found so far. The 45 long colt rounds are a great round to shoot too. Buy this gun.
I got the 2 1/2 inch judge, I use it for camping, 2 .45 and the rest .410 #4 shot for camping but I have bear and puma where I live. Also a great snake gun.
@illSkillJoey You are correct, there is not that much recoil. you can easly use one hand to fire it. With bird shot I blew two clean holes in a piece of cardboard that were at least 2" across from about 7 feet. It is LOUD that is for sure and will surely ger someones attention. The defense rounds have for 3 discs the side of a 9mm and 12 BBs. In your home you don't have to aim, just point in the direction and pull the trigger..

Yeah, it's rifled. The lead shot isn't going to damage the steel rifling. It won't have the most consistent spread of pellets beyond 15-20 feet, but that's not the intended purpose of the firearm. It's intended to be close up self defense gun.

Great gun.. I've owned my public defender for a year and shoot a lot of rounds, .45 LC, .410 bird and buc shot and never had a problem. Important to keep the gun clean becasue the shot shell leaves more on the residue in the barrel / chamber. Great for home protection but keep in mind ammo is expensive. box of 50 - .45 LC is $50. but it doesn’t stop me from shooting in NJ. Highly recommended.
I went 2 the range this weekend & my friend brought the judge & the S&W 500 over. Needless 2 say, my jaw was on the ground. The 500 had every1 going crazy! It would be awesome if you staggered .45 and .410 rounds. Use the .410 for shock, and the .45 for finishing the job if needed. I have no idea if you can actually do this, but it would be fucking sweet.

To deal with persons on non-European descent here in Charlotte, I carry a .38 snub on my belt at ALL TIMES, right out in the open, which is legal to do without a license in this state. That's about the only thing I like about NC. Taurus really got this unique gun done right!

In California law, the Judge is considered as "SBS" (Short barrelled Shotgun) n e shotgun that is under 18", shortened or modified for concealment purposes is considered "SBS"...The Judge fits in all of those categories. I live in Vegas and honor, respect, and enjoy our privelaged gun laws. I try to update myself on california gun laws also, so if u or n e 1 has n e updates on Cali gun laws towards the Judge i'd appriciate it

They make a round that is white phosphurous, it will blow a flame 3 feet out of the barrel and you can get a round that is called a pleshaet ? basically a full load of straight pins. I still prefer a good ol load of side window glass out of a car held in with extra salty bacon grease.
Thanks for the heads up on the phosphorous rounds. The flechettes are essentially nearly $3 each even after purchasing a case of 100.
I've never had the opportunity to buy either one but there is quite a selection out there on the net and I'm going to go to a gun store tomorrow to see what he can do for me in getting a decent gun to add to the hunting guns that I have. :)
I got my Judge today (6-30-2009). It's beautiful. It has gold plated accents. He's a hangin' judge. Hands down a much stiffer sentence. He believes in capital punishment!!!

The Taurus Judge comes in 2 major vershions the 2 1/2" & The 3" Magnum both are able to fire the 410 000 & 00 buck rounds.. If you cant find buckshot rounds you can make your own by popping the cap off and using 12 guage buckshot as filler.. 5 balls for the 3" & 3 for the 2 1/2. Its an old country boy trick but it works.

@markDMH1 No, it is very legal to carry a loaded gun in your car in MOST states. Some states like California and New York don't allow law abiding citizens to protect themselves. This past week, AZ has allowed that all citizens (not felons) have the right to carry concealed at any place except where open alcohol is served. I have a CCW permit so i can (and do) carry where alcohol is served also.

if they made it with a smooth bore barrel then it would be considered a short barrel shotgun and therefore illegal but because of the rifled barrel it is considered a legal handgun...plus you need rifled barrel for the .45 lc...
It's legal because .410 is a terrible shotshell for self-defense. The .45 is much better for self-defense because the .410 is only good for birdshot, which is a lousy self-defense round. Also, Taurus International does not openly advertise that it can hold shotgun shells for legal reasons, but WINK WINK you can fire .410 shotshells out of it.

I use (2) 000 Buck shot alternated with (2) no.6 birdshot and (1) Colt 45. Excellent combination. Chamber the birdshot as the first round that comes out followed by a quick double tap of 000 buck. Both will do well in a close quarters situation.
yes, you can find 00 for a .410, but its kinda hard to find. not even sure if its still produced by any major ammo companies.
my knowledge is based entirely on a box of 00 buck and slugs i got when my old double gun was handed down to me. Bet if you looked around long enough long enough, you'd find some for sale somewhere. or possibly have some reloads custom made. I think BB would be best fot the judge. No reason for that it just seems the BB would be better at point blank range to me, IMO.
@lyndonnobles I bought 00 Buck at the same time I bought my Judge last week. it says specifically on the side of the box ".410 handgun ammo." i also purchased the #8 birdshot as well as a box of .45 long colt.
Just aim for the face. #9 shot will ruin his day, to say the least, and even if it doesn't kill him, hopefully he'll be blinded (so that it will be very difficult to continue the attack) and at the very least he'll be marked for life as the scumbag he is.

I got my Judge today (6-30-2009). It's beautiful. It has gold plated accents. He's a hangin' judge. Hands down a much stiffer sentence. He believes in capital punishment!!!

These revolvers are a joy to shoot, and accurate as hell.
You may find that firing a lot of .410 shells will put your endurance to the test. They're a little snappy, even with the soft rubber grips.

I just got back from the gun range with my dad and we met a guy out there that had this gun. I let him shoot one of my guns and he let us shoot his Judge, I have to say that it's a raelly nice gun. I know what I'm buying next!!!! :)

Taurus did a great job with this.
Especially when they put the rifled barrel.
Some lawsuit tried to make it illegal for being a small shotgun [a shotgun can't be smaller than some measurement, can't remember what that is] But, the Taurus was fine, because it was rifled, it wan't illegal, YAY!

The Taurus Judge comes in 2 major vershions the 2 1/2" & The 3" Magnum both are able to fire the 410 000 & 00 buck rounds.. If you cant find buckshot rounds you can make your own by popping the cap off and using 12 guage buckshot as filler.. 5 balls for the 3" & 3 for the 2 1/2. Its an old country boy trick but it works.

I have this gun, I load the shell every other chamber with 2 colt rounds in it. That way I can wound them first with the colt round and blow them away with the 410, I can't wait for some nigger to try and steal my shit.

See, the first round I'd have bird shot, you know, to fuzz their mug up a bit and let the joker know they jacked the wrong fuckin car, then the next would be some OOO buck to blow their wig to the side, and the next round would be OO buck blast to the chest for some cardio action, and the last rounds would be .45 slugs for some good time knee cappin'. @markDMH1 No, it is very legal to carry a loaded gun in your car in MOST states. Some states like California and New York don't allow law abiding citizens to protect themselves. This past week, AZ has allowed that all citizens (not felons) have the right to carry concealed at any place except where open alcohol is served. I have a CCW permit so i can (and do) carry where alcohol is served also.

if they made it with a smooth bore barrel then it would be considered a short barrel shotgun and therefore illegal but because of the rifled barrel it is considered a legal handgun...plus you need rifled barrel for the .45 lc...

It's legal because .410 is a terrible shotshell for self-defense. The .45 is much better for self-defense because the .410 is only good for birdshot, which is a lousy self-defense round. Also, Taurus International does not openly advertise that it can hold shotgun shells for legal reasons, but WINK WINK you can fire .410 shotshells out of it.
You can buy it at your local gun store.

@Emmzeepwnzor The Judge I bought openly advertises that it chambers 3" shotshells. and the .410 is not only good for birdshot. I have 00 buck loads specifically sold for the ".410 handgun" market. The Judge is an excellent defense gun in a high populace area where there is a possible concern of collateral damage, ie crossfire or bystanders. I load mine with 2 # shot, 2 buckshot and lastly the .45 long colt. Do you also own the judge? Which model do you have? Regards.

Only in .410 so bore diameter under 0.50", and the barrel is rifled so it doesn't count as a short-barred shotgun.

I think he's using #4 shot.
I have one too, and I use #000 buck for defensive loads. It's only 3 pellets, but those three pellets spread pretty quick.

I use (2) 000 Buck shot alternated with (2) no.6 birdshot and (1) Colt 45. Excellent combination. Chamber the birdshot as the first round that comes out followed by a quick double tap of 000 buck. Both will do well in a close quarters situation.

00 buckshot is the standard for 12 gauge shotguns so go from there. not sure if you can get 00 in .410 though

yes, you can find 00 for a .410, but its kinda hard to find. not even sure if its still produced by any major ammo companies.
my knowledge is based entirely on a box of 00 buck and slugs i got when my old double gun was handed down to me. Bet if you looked around long enough long enough, you'd find some for sale somewhere. or possibly have some reloads custom made. I think BB would be best fot the judge. No reason for that it just seems the BB would be better at point blank range to me, IMO.

Just aim for the face. #9 shot will ruin his day, to say the least, and even if it doesn't kill him, hopefully he'll be blinded (so that it will be very difficult to continue the attack) and at the very least he'll be marked for life as the scumbag he is.
If our hypothetical attacker continues his career in crime, the tapping of his white cane will be a giveaway to any potential victims.
