  • You try that in NY and they beat you up. you always have to ask them first for permition to take it, otherwise you will get in trouble. is kind of rude to just shoot at people without asking them first, I know I would get very upset if they do it to me. anyway, great tutorial thanks...

  • Very interesting video. I just got my M9P and Summilux f1.4 50mm. Eric what lens is on yours for this kind of work? The security guard and the guy with eye patch are brave shots.

  • @erickimphotography i guess you'll sometimes get in trouble with taking pictures of people ;) btw nice pictures ! Whats the price of a leica m9 ?

  • 5:18 you were bout to take a photo n you realized hes black

  • pretentious

  • Wow I never knew a video of someone taking pictures would be so interesting! Had me gripped the whole video, you sir have just earned yourself a subscriber :) keep it up man <3

  • I wonder how many people go home and tell their significant other about this weird guy who came up and took a picture of them and walked off...

  • HAHA I laughed so hard when you said no I don't have any cash thank you. Great video man.

  • you can switch off the red blinking light in the menu (RTFM) ;-)

  • Hey eric, how do u film while you take stills? i am thinking about getting a camera and it would help if you had a suggestion or two. i'd like to keep below $250 and shoot mostly stills.

  • @KiiDDCuDDii He's using another camera mounted on the Leica. But I think there are some cameras that allows you to film and take still shots

  • @exconigor Canon 5d Mark II

  • Fearless.

  • Brilliant perspective. It was great that you spoke to the camera as you went explaining your reasoning for the shots you took, or didn't take. I'm sure other people have mentioned it but it would be cool to see the photos you've taken overlaid onto the video as you went.

Not too sure if I'm brave enough to do this in London though. :-)

  • I am really surprised that you do not interact with your subjects. You seem like such a nice young man and that is probably why people let you get away with it.

  • That was so cool. You should do more of this Eric.

  • Lol this was amazing to watch your soooo fearless amazing!

  • did you mount the gopro on the hotshoe?

  • I take pictures of everything including cheap shots of homeless people. Cool video.

  • omg! i thought that white dude in the blue shirt was gonna punch him in the face!!

  • Thanks for the ride! :)

  • Very cool perspective, I liked the video a lot and helped give ideas for street photography. I've never tried it before because I don't know if i could handle all the people giving weird looks... how long did it take you to develop the skill to just walk out and snap pictures of people without caring if they're weirded out?

  • That's awesome!! Next time please edit in the final shots after you took them!! I'd like to see more!

  • im hungry in cash..well said..

  • If you did it again it would be cool to put some approximate framelines on the video so we could see what composition you were going for with each picture. Interesting video though.

  • Wow this video has really blown up since I watched it

  • haha but seriously, this is just too awkward for me. I live in a small town, people would think I've gone mad.

  • 3:54 he snaps a picture of the girls ass.

  • Eric, keep doing what you're doing. To my mind, everywhere is somewhere "interesting," all work is "real work." I like that you're shooting right where you are. Don't listen to anyone (including me) who's pushing a "magic formula" for better photos, or asking you to adhere to some hackneyed formula they're insecure about having bought into themselves. Just keep taking photos.

  • Wow I reckon this video has gone viral!

  • I prefer to interact with people more. I think you get better shots that way, but thanks for sharing.

  • You not do this in the UK every one is so much against public photos is unreal get the wrong guy and you not have a camera after....

  • This was terrifying for me to even watch. No way I could pull this off.

  • Really interesting how the pictures turned out, but really is not possible to do this without the permission of the people in some parts of the world, and I don't think this could be because of photography laws, but because how people see weird this practice. It could even be dangerous.

  • How is everyone so chill about it ?

  • @sandmonkey92 Why would they be angry? Ask yourself, how would you react in that same situation. You would probably just wonder why that man took your picture and forget about it.

  • you should put up how the pics came out after you took them. kinda like DigialRev does

  • @Graffight Great idea, will do that ;)

  • I'd really like to see another one, maybe go somewhere interesting or do it during a busier period instead of just taking random shots. It'd be cool to see you do some real work.

  • @nedwarp Yessir!

  • hehe, here in regional austrtalia half of those people would arc up for sure... nice work tho... off to your blog now

  • hey. enjoyed the video. always wanted to see how other folk do it. do you like william eggleston?

  • not that many people on the streets? that's cost its LA dude every one drives you need to move to NY or London! Would been really nice if you edited the actual photos that you shot into the video.

  • wow you and sir thomas leuthard are my streettogs heroes!

  • He has balls. I like balls. XD <3

  • hey guy! awesome pictures!!

    congratz :D

  • That camera is loud as hell. No wonder everyone looks.

  • @allisonxm102 the gopro's mic is sensitive, esp if you mount it right on something that makes noise

  • @janussaint touche

  • What a awful way to shoot. Just shameful and a degrading way to photograph people IMHO.

  • @Closurefin Why do you think it's shameful and degrading?

  • @Closurefin Many people seem to project their own insecurities about street photography on to the subjects that Eric's shooting. Just because you're scared of taking a photo of a stranger doesn't mean that they mind you taking it.

  • thats a great idea!!!!!....can you switch the go pro out of fisheye mode???? is that the point of the camera...seems like a good one to have in the arsenol

  • really great shit, now I don't have to do street photography myself anymore, I can just sit in front of my screen and watch you doing it. ;-) What is the GoPro Angle of View compared to the 35mm lens (=54.4° horizontal)?

  • Im high out of my mind and this video its like being in Turok for the N64.

  • @okodorifuto LOL

  • @okodorifuto Holy shit I'm high as fuck also.

  • I live in Northern Ireland, if I tried this people would go crazy

  • @slipknot7777777 Are you sure?

  • @erickimphotography Yeah Ive tried something like it before. There's an awful lot of ignorant people over here.

  • @slipknot7777777 You should so do it man!!! It would be great to watch.

  • @slipknot7777777 tried before? if not then dont assume

  • @berc13 That's a good idea! I'll keep that in mind.

  • This is an interesting video idea - Other street photography videos I've seen have been filmed by another person, not seen any before done this way. I think I'd be more scared to go shooting in a semi-deserted suburban street like that - I've only ever really shot in crowded streets where it's easier to get in close without being noticed so easily.

  • Good stuff this was a brilliant insight. Definitely a missed opportunity at 5:18, but I kinda understand why..that man looks like he could of got mad.

  • Good job being a rude asshole.

  • would've been nice to see the pictures you took and not only where you walked...

  • @TheChill0ut There's the pictures he took in the description.

  • @MrLorryGregory Nice...sorry my bad, i never take the time to read the descriptions...should do it from now on :D thanks

  • Isn't this a horrible invasion of privacy.

    (yes)

  • @Cherootoe being outside your house is allowing your privacy to be invaded

  • @Cherootoe

not really. they're out in public.

  • whats the lens on the leica?

Great video, you definitely have an interesting approach.

I recently did a video challenge on asking for portraits in the street, you get a mixed response, I prefer your candid results though

  • He doesnt look a thing like Kai from DigitalRev.

  • Try to do this in some countries in Europe and you'll get your ass kicked and your camera stolen :)

  • @alexandrustrimbeanu Would disagree-- just came back from Paris and shot a ton of street photography. I still have my camera and my ass in-tact ;)

  • @erickimphotography

Go to Romania, Serbia, Bulgaria, Ukraine and try to do the same stuff.

  • @erickimphotography well, that's no fun.. everyone knows you are NOT supposed to come back from Paris with your Ass intact heheheh :> I think a lot of it is about the attitude you give out too.. if you are obviously a tourist out to capture some memories, people tend to be very accepting and understanding.

  • @alexandrustrimbeanu

I'm from the UK and I do this all the time :)

  • @alexandrustrimbeanu bullshit

  • @alexandrustrimbeanu

maybe because you or a other photographer shot a photo of the dudes girl and not both of them :P

  • @alexandrustrimbeanu Actually not, I do street-photography in Oslo, Norway with flash, never got any negative reactions. I don't ask, and they usually don't understand that it was taken a photo of them.

  • @movieking10 Same in Stockholm, Sweden. However if I shoot down in Lund (southern Sweden) people tend to tense up a bit more. Just a numbers game.

  • Nice One Eric!

  • "no, this is a leica" and the man just says "oh" (*i don't care*) :D

  • The American Kai! more videos please. Awesome concept with the Cam.

  • You look like Kai Wong from DigitalRev Tv

  • Maaaan, that's a loud shutter.

  • @ZDP189HK It's not, not compared to a DSLR. You got to keep in mind that the gopro is right next to it. For the subjects they barely notice it.

  • Very interesting look at how other street photographers work.

  • Definitely do more of these Eric, this was awesome.

  • Great idea, next time edit in the shots from the camera, subscribed!

  • @TheCritters78 Will do sir!

  • @TheCritters78 Got it!

  • This is amazing. I just subscribed.

  • @TimothyHoustonPhoto Thanks! :)

  • love to see what you do from your point of view! I find it difficult to get that close up though... just have to get out shooting more and get used to it.

  • @ecyor7 I probably got a lot closer-- the video is so wide-angle that it doesn't show that ;)
