Ummm.. can somebody please clarify for me, Glen here says nixon abolished the gold standard, but my understanding is that this happened after the depression, like 1913?

as far as I know in 1913 they created the federal reserve..

removal of the gold standard happened years and years later in time.. as far as I know.. I think Glenn is quite right about that one.

I think there were still gold standard dollars in circulation. Not actual gold thoug. I think the GS was properly taken out in the 40's.

The Depression started after the crash in 1929. The Federal Reserve was created in 1913 largely in reaction to the panic of 1907. The FR is unconstitutional. The gold standard was removed first in 1932. Then it was reinstated internationaly in 1946 after WWII. And then, yes Nixon got rid of it in 1971.

The system that was started after WWII was known as the Bretton Woods system in which the an ounce of gold was valued at $35 per troy ounce. Now the difference between this system and the traditional gold standard was that in this system other currencies were pegged to the dollar. During the 60's the dollar became overvalued while currencies like the yen were undervalued which meant that imports from japan were cheap. This was just one reason for ending the system.

You know what Glen, you made fun of Ron Paul during the primaries, but he was talking about this very thing happening, and you said he was crazy. Now what do you think of Ron Paul?

Man you Ron Paul fans really piss me off. You either didn't listen to Glenn before the election or just want to ignore what he said because you want to be victims of media not supporting Ron Paul. The truth is Glenn gave Paul more air time than the rest of the media combined. And not only that, he always agreed with him when it came to the economy. he just didn't and still doesn't agree with him on other issues. Ron and Glenn have both felt this way about the fed all along.

I can not follow the US television.. As well I'm just a dutch guy.. But yeah I also seen Glenn Beck advocating Ron Paul.. As being one of the few politicians really wanting to stop these bailouts...

Here in Europe we have NOBODY really telling us the truth about the economy's health..

We are not Ron Paul fans... we are patriots concerned about our country and the preservation of the Constitution. I like both Ron Paul and Glen nBeck... Glenn is not a politician and does not see what goes on behind the scenes... Paul has and he has for 20+ years. Glenn will come around... hey I did. Great and powerful USA is on the verge of destruction... maybe it will not lose its power but it will lose the voice of the people... if we stand by and do nothing.

I agree with you 100% on what is happening to our country and I'm glad there are people like you and me out there who are fighting preserve this country and its way of life. I'm also glad Ron Paul is out there fighting for us. But I guess I don't understand what you mean by Glenn will come around. He gets it just like Ron does, especially on the economy. He has been talking about the collapse of the US since well before this bailout mess. So please elaborate on how he needs to "come around."

If glan beck were not workign for the rothschilds, he would point out that the rothschilds are being paid $400 billion per year for "loaning" Americans air (just one of theri usury businesses!).

But, his job, as always, is to move us away from the reality that would get us collectively angry and motivated.
