This is one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite albums of all time. The world is a little darker and colder without the musical genius of Sonny Sharrock. This song is still as hair raising and poignant today as when I first bought the album eighteen years ago.
so beautiful, one of the few guys who could play jazz with a distorted guitar and make it so pretty.... this always makes me think it is the halfway point between john coltrane and carlos santana
This is unbelievable. The ability for the guitar to find my own frequency, it begins a resonation within my being that is nigh impossible to describe.
Why hasn't this been sampled yet?!?! DOOM would do this song some great justice, not saying it's not simply one of the greatest jazz songs ever. This by itself is fantastic.
Sonny was the most original guitarist I ever heard. A real musician. You could tell it was him playing after just a few notes - no matter what the setting. Loved his work with Miles, with Nicky Skopelitis, with Last Exit - but Ask the Ages just burned from start to finish - one of the ten best jazz albums ever!!!!. He had so much more to give it was a damn shame he left us so early. I just can't get enough of his playing because no-one else is even close.
Your father made some great music for Space Ghost Coast to Coast, which is how I discovered his great talent. He sounded like a really great guy, coming from the people who worked on the show.
@jasmynsharrock -- bought this album as a freshman in college at University of Montana the year it was released. Never stopped thinking that the world was simply a little bet better place due to the creation of this album. It still leaps out of my stereo 20 years later. There is a video on YouTube of your father playing in Prague in 1990 w/Melvin Gibbs on bass, etc. Outrageous. Your dad's playing just kills me and there are many fans who feel the same.

@jasmynsharrock The pleasure you might get from our comments will NEVER be halfway close to what we have been experiencing during all these years listening to your father, and especially to this monster of a record, one of the very few that can really stand alongside the great classics from the 50s, 60s and 70s. Trane would be enormously proud of him had he known him. GOD BLESS SONNY SHARROCK AND HIS MUSIC!!!
the photo of Sonny at 2:18 is how i remember him in concert...complete joyful presence..He gave new meaning to the idea of free playing..brilliant...Thanks for posting this so others can hear how great this man is...
This is an amazingly face melting record...so much depth of emotion...this is the realness...Sonny Sharrock may not have gotten the appreciation he deserved but those who did appreciate him were richly rewarded by this amazing musicians gift...rip sonny

This is just an unbelievably great Sonny Sharrock song. Band ain't too shabby, either. Ha Ha Ha. I can't stop listening to this . . . hope I wake up tomorrow with this stuck in my head. lol Thanks for this, amalokch, This is just a soul-gripping piece.
There is so much to be admired and studied in this. And, that's coming from a rather jaded lead guitarist. Thank you sincerely for posting this.

saw him accompany herbie mann, mongo santamaria and some dude named 'Roger'? Sonny had big fro and was big himself. shook his fro when he played.
(Also i saw Roger at a club singing with a band. He sang, then did a handstand and danced on his hands. Who was this cat?)

One of the most beautiful guitar ballads ever captured...and a great match with Zappa's "Napkins". Raw emotion both here and there.
