  • whats the sure fire way to catch at least 1 king fish on a pier? thanks!!!

  • Try a livebait under a balloon, Usually Mackerel can't help themselves, or a floating pilchard

    Cheers Greg

  • Loose up on the drag, let them tire out and you will not get 'popped off' as you put it. Something in your rig will give whenever you try and bulldog a king (spanish).

  • Know what you mean, Was probably a Giant Trevally and they can fight dirty, that was heavy line/braid and still took heaps of drag, and busted up on the rock, Spanish Mackerel usually fight in clear water,

    Cheers Greg

  • Sick Ass Stella

  • Top Reel, although a good fish, Would say a Giant Trevally and ended up Reefing us on the rock,

    Cheers Greg

  • check out video on my account! i caught a mack of 35kg. n do comment if u like it..

  • Nice Spanish Mackerel, well done,

    cheers Greg

  • @nabealmalik I caught an 18in mackerel right on the beach

  • I now live in the USA I started fishing at age of 4 in South Africa, did eventually master a fun but most challenging reel. It's the "One on one" KP reel from South Africa, It has no drag your hand must palm and control the drag. Once you start fishing this way it's very addictive as you have no gears or drags in between you and the fish. Andy Vinecombe is a well know "decky" fishing out of Cairn who has mastered this reel, look him up he might be able to get you one to try. Enjoy!

  • We have a sidecast reel called Alvey in Australia, and depending on which model you have, you palm the spool for drag, It does give good feel and good fun, although must admit we mainly use Shimano overheads, and I'm using Tuff Tackle Spinning reels for GT's at the moment,

    Cheers Greg

  • Why fish on crappy coffee grinders though!

  • Nothing wrong with Overheads,

    Cheers Greg

  • Got to love the mack's, your being spooled and all of a sudden the line goes slack and its leaping from the water. Your about to be sharked! got to love the

    GREAT BARRIER REEF!!!!!

  • wow never seen so many hooks in a bait lol, dont want them to get aways lol

  • And you still miss them at times, big hits, and they still get away,

    Cheers Greg

  • those arnt spanish mackerel their king mackerel

  • In Australia we call them Spanish Mackerel and they are the same as your King Mackerel, pretty sure they are,

    Cheers Greg

  • @Reefari yea spanish mack and king mack are the same there just cousin's they have a slight difference in colour patern

  • @Reefari well we have a spanish mackerel too but are much smaller then the king mackerel, But i know they call fish different names in different countries, so no biggy lol. ITS STILL FISHING BABY AND THERE ISNT ANYTHING BETTER, OTHER THEN HUNTING AND HOT DRUNK WOMEN LOL LOL LOL.

  • I think our Spanish are the Same as your King Mackerel, and we also have several different smaller species,

    Cheers Greg

  • we have lower temperature in coming winter months, and flock of fishing enthusiasts trooping to the same place I mentioned, lured by the irresistible sight of pulling off a mighty kings!

last september, a pair of Ausies or New Zealanders (by distinctive accent), :) dealing with a 35+ pounder Cobia, looks pretty awsome! I myself, hooked a slightly smaller Cobia a week after, but, that doesn't excite me than dealing with a king mac. I know' summer is on the way there. Happy angling...!!!

  • Good one, and hope you get into a few, top fish and great fun, We had a top season, now over, with up to 14, 15 in a day, averaging 20 lbs and left them biting,

    cheers Greg

  • I live in the United Arab Emirates, and a weekly supply of a king mac, is definitely not in short supply. a Friday morning trip near a harbor mouth guarantees one or two 10 to 20 pounder. steak or smoked, they're just simply too hot to ignore...

  • Sounds good, We have a good season over June to October, with average fish same size, but do get some monsters 40 - 60 lbs, Well done,

    cheers Greg

  • I think the King mac, spanish mac and wahoo are three species in one. all having the same white meat, and softy bones. they might vary only with their snout but my best guess is, they are as tasty as one...

  • Definately all good eating, I know the Wahoo and Spanish are different fish, but the King and spanish mackerel are the same as far as I can tell,

    Cheers Greg

  • biggest spanno i hav seen was wen me and a m8 were out, it was about 42kg, idk how many lbs that is im sure someone will work that out, he caught that one off the coast of centeral queensland Australia,

  • 42kg is a big Spanish, every year one or two get caught to about 40 kilograms around Mackay, but a good spanish for us is 20 Kg +,

    Cheers Greg

  • @MegaUnderscore 42 is a great size.. as 40 kg is the world record at IGFA..

  • here in the U.S. are king mackerel look exactly look like what u call spanish mackerel, the Florida state record is 90lbs what we call spanish mackerel here are alot smaller might get up to 5 or 8 lbs for a good one, and they have lil yellow spots on them.

  • Our biggest Spanish in Australia would be about 90lbs or 100 lbs, more average around 20 - 40 lbs, very common. We don't have any small mackerel with yellow spots, but do have about 6 smaller species, we call spotties, Broadbarred or Grey Mackerel, Doggie, and School mackerel which we can catch in good numbers, Good fun on light line,

    cheers Greg

  • The King and Spanish must be Similar, grow to about the same size, our spanish also known as Narrow Barred Mackerel have numerous narrow bars down there sides. What about King Mackerel?

    Cheers Greg

  • we just have King mackerel which is ur spanish mackerel and we have spanish mackerel which look like a king, but are smaller with yellow spots and we have cero mackerel with and small and have yellow dashes on them. I live in north Florida so u know where i live in the US

  • its funny how yall come them spanish mackerel and here in the US we call them king mackerel or king fish

  • Thanks, I'm pretty sure they're the same fish, the Spanish and the King Mackerel, but your smaller fish you call Spanish Mackerel. We have a fair few smaller mackerel species called Shark, Grey or Broadbarred mackerel, School Mackerel and Spotty Mackerel. So quite a few smaller species, do you have the same?

  • i live in campwin beach, near sarina beach, sarina lol

any chance you'll be goin out that way since you're based in mackay?
