  • Thats amazing! Woow! Where you found this letters from him and his Son?? My respect. I hope you can help me

  • How could 7 people dislike this? They have no respect for the dead

  • Rest in peace.

  • Does anybody know what happened to his pistol (Colt 1911) after he died? In the film it is taken by an American Marine.

  • I don't think many IJA generals had the balls to fight right inthe front lines with his troops. He gets respect from just that. I wished his underlings had listened to the general more then to just call it quits and become stubborn and do their own thing and stuff like that. R.I.P. General Kuribayashi.

  • A great general he may have been, just as there were on all sides of WWII, but the fact remains that they fought the war for their respective leaders and regimes. In the end they died with their honor, that is all.

Japan walked away from the war pretty easily (sorry the nuclear bomb excuse doesnt count, please read up on japanese atrocities). They retained their leader, were spared any humiliating re-education (see post war Germany), and had their economy rebuilt.

  • @Salamanderkill

Although Germany had its economy rebuilt as well, similarly for Cold War interests.

  • He is the reason I learned Jappanese.I wish he could have been my Sensai.

  • How do you manage to get Gen. Kuribayashi's pics? They must have been in the museum now! Wow, they're great!

  • i hope to visit Iwo one day

  • R.I.P

    a realy genious general

what a pitty that he died

  • Kuribayashi

    1893-1945

  • 彼は日本人の中でも稀有な存在だったと思う。

    唯一軍人で最前線で戦った司令官であるから。

  • General Kuribayashi was a great man and also a kind one. His death is a great loss for Japan because he could have meant so much for the country. A pity his body was never found, but I am sure he rests in peace on that island and I prayed for him at Yasukuni Jinja and will again. Sleep well, Kaka

  • Kuribayashi was a good general. he was a realist but he respect the Japaneese code. if he had more troops than the landing probably was compromised. I think that he was the only general who didn't accepted that the soldiers should die if they coudn't succed.

  • Kurabayashi was an honorable man who upheld the true code of Bushido to the end. America never faced a foe of superior quality than the Japanese. As the old saying goes "Your enemy by his fighting example shall do you honor."

  • Real story Movies..

  • Oh man very nice pictures, he was a hero.

Letters from Iwo jima is for me the best film which i ve ever seen!

  • Hail to Tadamichi Kuribayashi a Hero for Japan!

    Banzai.

  • Japan was Provoked into a War of Self Defense

  • Wow arent they good? I live in the UK but I'm from Japan. I sometimes have a blessing of caring for war vet at work (I'm a nurse), and always find their stories the most facinating and touching- some of them dont talk about it but many do and seem to be surprised when they see me interested in their experiences. I try to care for them with at most respect(not meaning I care less for other patients!) as I want them to know, as a human being, I admire them all for their courage.

  • I am not disgrace or doubt Mr. Watanabe's acting...But I would prefer the other Japanese Actor...Shinichi Chiba...He really look like Gen. Kuribayashi!!!

  • I spoke to my father a WWII vet, he was a Okinawa. It was a butcher shop as all the islands were from Guadacanal to Oki. No sympathies from my family. Butchers....

  • Hideki Tojo's Prison Diary

This was not translated till 2004 Interesting read in the least and very blunt and honest.

Hail all honest and brave men who love their people and soil!

  • yeah uh i think that guy Saigo buried him

  • hey, did anyone found his remains? he should have a proper funeral =(

  • He did. Well, apparently. In the movie he gets burried next to the beach. If it's true, it is propper. After all, he was burried on the ground that he gave his life to defend, and since it was still "his"... Well, you know what I mean. =]

  • Very beautiful video!

Probably, now Kuribayashi is between the Gods!

  • Oh my,I know him as a good lieutenant general, but until now, I never know he was a good illustrator as well

  • his drawings are rather comical actually.

  • These letters begin with "To taro-kun".It was to his son during his long stay in America.

  • i love both the video of Kuribayashi and Baron Nishi

  • wow, thank you for making this

  • Thanks for the "letters" from IWO JIMA. Very interesting

  • Touching... he was a warrior-poet. Great men fall bravely and honourably... he was a great man, it seems. And this is a great video.

  • Kuribayashi-san was a good painter @@;

  • better aware that the second shot is not general Kuribayashi...It's Ken Watanabe

  • Thanks ! .. for a deeper look into the personality of this man. How did you get the info ?

  • 'Main Titles' from Letters from Iwo Jima soundtrack.

  • wats this title song called?

    thxs
