I think the reason people like villains like Azula so much is because they still have many admirable qualities and in someway reamin relatable.

For example Azula is confidant, ambitious and really understands how people think while still desperately seeking her father's attention and breaking down when her friends leave her.

This makes her a character people still identify with despite how horribly she treats people.

I want to make something clear tho... a lot of Avatar fans seem to think bending comes by birth, it does not!!!, and there is proof: Katara's mother is not a waterbender, and her father wasnt either. Idk tho how bending comes, mbe by where the bender is born, in that case, in order to re-populate airbenders, people would have to have sex over at one of the air temples, not necessarily Aang and Katara.

Azula really did become her father's daughter because her mother neglected her, thinking she didn't need her love and that Zuko needed it more. Obviously she needed more than just respect...she was pining for her mother's attention but never got any. No wonder she's batshit insane! I still love her though.
