Man i have been looking for clip like forever i remember humming this song on my way to my afternoon kindergarten class back in 1983.. good times it's cool to finally see it again thanks sawing14s
Great memory - I guess the best life would be one where some moments are 'Herman-like,' some are 'Stanley-like,' and most are somewhere in between. The barrel bonking poor Stnaley on the head is what I probably remember most from this.
I like this one now, but when I was a kid it really freaked me out. Probably because I'd never seen a grown man cry (even though he's cartoon) and I was disturbed that Herman could be so happy while his friend was so sad. I had to run out of the room when it was on.
I remember this cartoon I also seem to remember another cartoon with two guys who are twins and they're singing about how the look alike and are rhyming. Near the end of the cartoon one of the guys falls off the ledge gets back up and asks what rhymes with different. Does anyone know what I mean?
Any idea what Stanley's mumbling at the end? Sounds like "A real happy fella...that's one of the saddest things I've ever seen..."

There's a real trace of Jimmy Durante in Herman's voice, and think the announcer at the beginning is voiced by the same guy.

Maybe Stanley is sad because his friend is perilously close to being a complete raving lunatic?

@hollygolightly101 Who said Herman was Stanley's friend? Herman's just a jerk. A lot of Sesame Street characters are jerks. Especially Grover!!!

Herman needs a Xanax and to lay off the caffeine. I hope he hid the razor blades from Stan who certainly could use the uppers Herman must be taking.

Why is Stanley sad?

Maybe Stanley receives bad luck always, and Herman receives good luck always.

Maybe he can't deal with living with someone so constantly and persistantly happy?

This one's just kinda dumb. Kind of a one-note deal, but the end is pretty silly.
