It's NOT onyx. 1. Think of the different time periods I mean seriously master chief woke up from cryosleep 12 years later. So dr Halsey would most likely be dead or seriously ill. 2. They got stuck in SHIELD WORLD which master chief could only get to from either ultra fast lightspeed in a cruiser or getting in the no longer possible entrance of SHIELD WORLD which only stayed open for a short period of time before it collapsed in itself. :P
