well having a purifying pump is just more to carry. wile boiling over a campfire can be done when you set up camp. all you need is a metal tin(your cup) and a way to start fire and then go ocupy yourself with othere thing while you wait for it to boil

Seriously, there are TONS of techniques to purify even still waters.

Learning how to build a water-purifying filter from scratch is a MUST for long-term survival.

I always carry a small bottle of Iodine in my med-pack. It has many uses, including sterilizing water, in case I run out of chlorine caps.

i might be wrong but i dont think these filters take out Protozoa, bacteria and viruses. anyone who finds this might want to check out water purifier pens. Steripen is one brand.
