Some dumb fuck tried to flash/mod my Xbox 360 DVD drive to play back-up copies and instead just screwed it all up, completely erasing the DVD drive key. He obviously dosn't know what the fuck he's doing, so now the system turns on and the dashboard works fine, but the DVD drive won't play any games at all. Is it possible to somehow access the motherboard to diagnose or retrieve the DVD drive system-key and fix this issue or should I just buy another new Xbox?

I have a Lite On version 7 drive in my xbox right now, and I want to switch it out for a newer Lite on. If I get the new Lite On I still need to flash the rom right? Or could I just swap the boards? @YinYangRA depense on your LiteOn drive... "This tutorial is only useful for 74850C LiteOn drives. For 83850C v1 drives, no extra hardware is needed, only a SATA connection. For 83850C v2 and 93450C drives you need to do the MRA hack, which involves cutting and soldering traces on the drives board. The MRA hack can be used on 74850C drives also (and has the added advantage of dumping the full firmware, not just the key and identity info)"

3rd: Unfortunately not. (You will need to install PortIO32.exe to get the sata port working in Windows XP)

I told ya, this is yaywoop Knowledge, he said:

ok to test your setup you can open hyperterm: "C:\Program Files\Windows NT\hypertrm.exe"

enter something in the area code box to keep it happy. make a new connection called test. connect using com1 (or whatever com port you are plugged into) in the properties window change flow control to none.

and you should get a window with a blinking cursor. at the bottom it should say connected.

part II

now power your adapter from 5V and touch the Tx probe to a 3V (2 x AA batteries) or 5v voltage repeatedly, you should get some crazy symbols appear in hyperterminal. that means your hardware is working!

if you don't get any symbols, try rubbing the probe lightly against the 3v source. eventually something should appear.

alternatively you can construct the other half of the converter that i said was not needed in the first post, join the Rx to the Tx and do a loopback test.
