Okay, I needed to find a better answer for you ;) I just looked it up in the book... the group that sang your song and was quoted in the book was called "The Regenerations" led by Derric Johnson. And the lyrics DID match yours exactly, so it was the exact same dong.

Wow, I was just reading a book and it quoted lyrics from this song. I literally hadn't though of this tune in years, but it started running through my mind. It was one of my favorites, love the harmonies! I can't begin to thank you enough for posting this fantastic memory. Best wishes, guys!

Dick - I'm an Associate Pastor at my church, and the book is called, "The Heart of a Great Pastor" by H.B. London and Neil B. Wiseman. They were relating a story of a group coming to one of their churches and singing the song... a gospel group, I assume. The lyrics weren't exactly the same, but as I read them it brought this song back to mind. I'm assuming the group may have changed some lyrics to make it more of a "gospel" song.

Dick wrote most of the Cooper brothers songs.Les Emmerson was the lead singer for the five man electric band & wrote the song "signs" .. Great band these guys & I`m glad their coming back..
