one question (and this is out of my complete ignorance) is a cover suppose to completely change the vocal parts?

you have a good start with the vocal. just be sure of the note you are trying to hit and open up your throat more. (an open throat will eliminate shrill notes.)

personally, this song is alittle high for my range, but i love singing it!
