I just ran across this, this guy always surprises me and everyone else. You wonder why he has never been discovered and out front with those on the largest stages of fame. This guy can super rock, and not I see he has some hot hot blues to throw in their too. I love to hear hot playing from those that you never thought had it in them. This guy just is full of surprises, and I love his humble demeanor through it all.
Great, just great playing ! And so rich tone which is like tha not only due to Vox amp but mostly ...to your fingers. All respect sir :) Greetings from Poland
@ibek1200 Thanks very much - so glad you enjoyed is especially as the recording was only from a cheap Kodak camera. My grandfather (God bless him) came from Poland so nice to see folk looking in from there!
There's a man at peace ! , he does it because it feels good ,Well done Rich , I have pick up the guitar once again in my mid fifties which i left in my twenties . I have now got a renewed vigour, it still requires plenty of repetitive practice but great when everything just clicks and all of you young and old guitarist know that feeling .
@donnyj1 Thanks very much for the kind comment & glad you enjoyed it. I had a VT30 loan for a while but sadly had to give it back. Great little amp ( there's a couple of VT30 demo's on my site here too).
hey man i just subscribed to you nice work im young only 21 but blues speaks to me man thanx and as we speak im saving for a Vox AD120VTH full stack 2 (4x12 cabs) w/ Clestion Neo Dogs and the blue tolex cloth grill and maybe a nice Shechter CSH/1 or Trans Blue C1+ idk yet but hopefully i ll play this good one day lol anyways am diggin ya groove mate keep jamming Voxman
Thanks af69bp21, glad you liked the vid & good luck in finding a AD120VTH rig. I think 2 4x12's is going to be unbelievably huge & heavy to carry & transport - I'd suggest two 2x12 AD212 cabs. When you get one, put an EQ in the FX loop with a Y cable (see my other youtube demo's showing the difference an EQ makes).
Voxman5 I have watched a few of your vids now and have never failed to be entertained and impressed, this one is top of the tree to me. Got a AD30VT but I think I'm going to have to grow some extra fingers if I'm going to make it ever sound this good. Thank you for posting this it was a pleasure to watch.
Thanks Ibanez2570P, glad you enjoyed the vid & well done for spotting a bit of JH influence there! Yup, I thought Jeff was fabulous - such a shame that we lost him. (God bless you Jeff - make sure you keep it loud & rockin' in heaven!). Rich
NawlinzCajun, - yup, my dreadful cack-handed technique unintentionally grew from two things. First, I can get a more powerful vibrato that way, and second is that its my way of coping with the thick 'heel' on a single cutaway Les Paul that restricts access to the high register. I never planned to play so cack-handed, it just seemed to happen naturally. It works for me, but I'm sure guitar tutors would cringe! But then the late great Jeff Healey wasn't exactly orthodox either! (lol)
Thought I'd just follow up on the 'thumb' thing as I discovered that Adrian Emsley (amp designer for Orange amps) does the same thing. See his demo of the Orange Tiny Terror on the Orange website.
If I may echo BodDude, I absolutely LOVED this playing in this video. Just fantastic and raw with emotion. That tone is just HEAVENLY to my ears. I am definitely getting a Vox amp for this tone exclusively. Please rocommend a model and the amp settings for me.
Thanks again for the kind words Ducky811-appreciate you looking in (all 5 star ratings greatly appreciated by the way! lol). The amp (set at only 15w) is my main gigging rig - a 'Blue series' Vox AD120VTX (modelling/tube hybrid-now discontinued) plus AD212 extn cab with a Behringer EQ700 and BBE Sonic Stomp in the FX loop. Amp model selected was a Marshall JCM900,with a little 'verb & delay, and just using volume roll-off in the quiet bits. The guitar is a stock 1990 Gibson Les Paul Custom.
Thanks Martyn - appreciate you looking in & for the very kind words. Have to settle for this stuff 'cos I can't play like James Burton or Scotty Moore I'm afraid! (lol)

Amazing, what preset did you use, Voxman?
wiwawoem 2 years ago
Thanks wiwawoem - I used the UK 90's amp model (Marshall JCM900) with just a little spring reverb and some delay. Rich

Is the backing track a Jeff Healy song?
I saw Jeff in concert a long time ago (early 90's), and he really was amazing.

Hi hbNc - nope, it was just a blues backing track I found. Unfortunately I never saw Jeff Healy live, so I'm a little envious. Best, Rich

You're only the second person I have seen who plays some of your lead runs with his thumb under the neck. Unique technique. Great playing.
