You know what? I disapprove of stealing. I think piracy is bad. But if sopa passes, a lot of innocent sites will be harmed. If it passes, I will become a pirate. Not because I think it will become okay, but because I refuse to let people profit from this.
@AnomalyINC There is actually a subtle difference between stealing and pirating... pirating is make copies of something... think of it as if your car was stolen but it's still in your driveway in the morning... the only thing really "stolen" is corporations chance of making a profit.
@CJCA915 I think that is the whole point. People need to make money. If people do not bother to pay for, say, a comic book, the creator get no money. If the creator get no money, he may have to stop making the comic, ruining his career. Musicians, who get a large part of their income through concerts have it a little easier than, say, movie creators and the likes. My point is, SOPA is like firebombing a city because some criminals live there.
@AnomalyINC Only because we've conditioned ourselves to rely on in all actuality worthless paper, we assigned its value...
Personally, I think corporations, etc. make too much as it is, and hoard it to themselves in the way of employee bonuses, etc. If they're going to make all that money, they need to get taxed more, without all the loopholes...
However, SOPA is worse than that... fair use would be the first copyright right up for attack...
@CJCA915 Many of these "corporations" are just people trying to get by. We have no right to ruin peoples career just because we don't feel like paying.
@AnomalyINC I have no problem paying for stuff, but when I know most of it goes into the pant lining of a big paper pusher, it ticks me off... and many of them are not just trying to get by... these big white collar workers, are just getting by? Some CEO's make $30k an hour... that's $500 a minute... $8.33 a second... there is no reason for them to be making that much money... I see the kinds of cars they drive, the houses they own, they're not just getting by they're getting by and then some.

I dont care much for SOPA, but I need to point out something. The first amendment does not protect your right to steal. It protects your right to come up with new, ORIGINAL thoughts and share them with America.
Only in an incredibly spoiled, lazy, ignorant society would people confuse rights with criminal acts.
@shortylickens69 constitution says nothing about protecting works. Expressions allow us to enjoy life. To tell someone, "you can only enjoy this DIGITAL work if you pay for it," is tantamount to making one pay to listen when passing a radio playing music. Powers have always attempted to control expression and ideas under pretense of legality . Today when it costs a company nearly nothing to produce a digital copy of a movie and then sell it for $19.95, the reasoning you offer appears misguided.
The first time any person's freedom is trod upon, we're all damaged. FIGHT THE POWER! Hey, has everyone heard about the Black March? It's a plan to counteract S.O.P.A. by getting as many people as possible to not purchase any forms of media entertainment for the entire month of March; this will put a huge hole in the treasury and let the government know that we will NOT put with their unneccessary cencorship. Who's on board?
Y'know, I think I wanna upload this to Megaupload...Oh yeah, that's right, the people who worked there were ARRESTED because of copyright-related bullshit!
@AceOmega1981 No one on Earth would dislike this. It was obviously the Ferengi. SOPA and PIPA are no doubt right inline with the Rules of Acquisition.
Now I remember why I watched TNG as a kid! I wonder if there's any way we can have this played outside the Capitol Building in DC? (On a constant loop?)
I cannot express adequately the joy I had in my heart when I saw this, but I can tell you I laughed like a little schoolgirl. AMAZING! Mad props to you for this man! The PERFECT response with classic Star Trek twist.
I love this for two reasons: (1) Jean-Luc is the shit. (2) The irony. This clip is under copyright by Paramount and would be blocked by SOPA & PIPA. Awesome!
