  • One of the best 8-bit songs ever one NES!

  • Sounds Like a Mega Man song

  • @EpicSatellite Except that the soundtrack to Journey to Silius was so much better produced than the Mega Man soundtrack ever was, such a fat sound.

  • Aphex Twin should make a remix of this tune!

  • 9ner and thus my journey has begun

  • SO AMAZING!!!!!! HOLY FUCK THIS IS INSANELY GOOD!!!

  • probably one of the baests graphics and music i've ever seen/heard of all the nes games!!

  • thumbs up if listen this track and watch whats the price on ebay for this game because u like the music so much ;-)

  • PBG brought me here

  • Years ago, a friend of mine gave me Jnes and the ROM for this. I've been searching for this for more than 3 years and i found it. YES!

  • @SNESIvan Same here bro. I played this game literally decades ago now and for the life of me couldn't remember the name of the game until I listened to 8-bit radio podcast and finally my childhood is complete!

  • I don't know why, but this theme kind of reminds me of how Sega Genesis music sounds.....I think it must be the synth bass used in the song.......

  • You know a soundtrack is good when you can't get past the title screen!

  • Best Terminator game EVER.

No joke, even in 2011, STILL BEST!

  • Very good music!!!!! Best! ;)

  • Whatever BEST VGM Track from Supra dark i hear. I'S gotta be good

  • Awesome piece of NES music - well awesome piece of music generally. Really gets you pumped up! :) Even though it's ages I owned NES and really a lot of games (sold them at some point.. stupid.. stupid..!) Journey To Silius was among one of the very best game soundtracks ever IMO. Great great stuff.

  • @dungeonsarecalling Fuck yea it was, the only 8 bit I ever heard even close to this was ::Keygen digital insanity and Batman(NES) music - Stage 4 part 1

Seriously If you really like this song, check those other 2 out

  • Impressive... That's up there with the Solstice title theme oô

  • I'll bring this in on mp3 to the gym, you bet i'll be pumping some serious shit with this on!

  • Just added this gem to my NES library. HOW COME NO ONE TOLD ME IT WAS THIS GOOD?!

  • Possibly the Best NES soundtrack next to Crystalis. The game is pretty kick ass too

  • SUCH WHIP ASS NES MUSIC, along with stage 4 of batman of coarse

  • Darky eh.

    Hmmm.

  • dude, I could conquer an empire with this playing behind me.

  • Message to the present time video game developers: Try make a music like this, god damn'!

  • Some people say the NES has no FM Synthesis. this game does!

  • @Kefka44

Nope, the bass you hear is a 1 bit compressed delta PCM sample. Maybe sampled from a FM synthesizer, but the NES itself isn't capable of FM synthesis.

  • @porcorosso81 Yeah, the bass track was sampled specifically to produce the deeper, richer timber that really sets this game apart from everything else in the NES library. It's frigging ingenious, really.

  • music this good existed in an NES cart?! nice!

  • Listen to this while walking down your street, Feel badass.

    CHECK!

  • Is Sunsoft even still around? o.o

  • @darkazesim Apparently. Didn't hear much from them up until 2009 and haven't heard anything from them since.

  • @darkazesim yes

  • @darkazesim Yes, they recently released Blaster Master on the Wii VC

  • I made a SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive cover of this tune (and also the one for stages 1 and 5) — would you mind if I linked this vid in the description for my version hosted on SheezyArt? :)

  • ♫ Jour-ney to SIL-i-us! ♪

    ♪ Dun-duuuuun! ♫

    ♫ Jour-ney to SIL-i-us! ♪

    ♪ Dun-duuuuun! ♫

  • @zhazha23 I actually wrote lyrics for this song this past weekend. I plan on releasing a vid pretty soon.

  • @zhazha23 XD! I was singing something similar this morning. Replace the "Dun-duuuun" with "Awe-some" and that's what I was doing. Yeah, this title theme is epic!

  • Ahh, nostalgia! We used to play this alot on our NES :)

  • Just played this on my new Retron3.

  • It really is a shame that this game didn't go mainstream back in the day.

  • Just bought this bad boy with manual for $5 bucks Today!

  • My neighbour and me used to play this back in the good old days. Furthest we ever came was the bossh who separated body and head and attacked simultaneously. Hard game, not always fair, but enjoyable. Thanks for reintroducing it again!

  • I just began my journey to Silius. Wish me good luck.

  • SunSoft weren't just good at making music, they were fucking kick-ass at making music!

  • Be still my throbbing NES heart!

  • I can hear "We're on a journey to Siliuuus" in the beginning

  • You wanna know what the best thing about this game is? It has a Music Test!

  • That's gotta be the most un-misleading box art I've ever seen.

  • sunsoft songs is just what i need to get awake and gettin ready to drive =D

  • The guys behind of all Sunsoft´s soundtracks are Naoki Kodaka and Nobuyuki Hara mainly.

    And this one is great.

  • i still own this game. this is one of the collest games for the nes. and the music was ahead of its time. sunsoft was the one of the best with their sound tracks. they went in a totaly difrent direction. perfect examples. batman, blastermaster the music seem to have a progressive attitude. and this game is one of the best i mean this game had a full theam song to it not just 30 seconds. and dont let me get started on the boss music in this game. EPIC with a feeling of urgancy like your in deep.

  • Wow. This song is awesome. Especially Year 200X's rock version of it. But this is good too.

  • Freaking awesome! never heard of it even !

  • To quote AVGN, "Seems like SUNSOFT games always have good music..."

  • @mossemalm like blaster master and fester's quest.yep i said that.

  • .mp3 please?

  • wow this blows me away how good a job someone did at making a whip ass tune!

  • Whoever composed most of the Sunsoft game music, was the Yuzo Koshiro of the NES

  • @shanethefox

Naoki Kodaka. He also composed on the Genesis. Check out his kick ass Batman soundtrack on the Genesis.

  • thats fucking insane, holey shit that's awesome- just when I thought I wouldn't hear a better nes then BATMAN stage 4

  • I swear Sunsoft could get better music out of the NES sound chip than any other developer at the time, including Nintendo themselves. Truly skilled artists.

  • Ah, Sunsoft.

You never ceased to amaze me.

  • I found this song.......after much time!! awesome....

  • Naoki Kodaka deserves a lifetime achievement award. Only in recent years have I discovered how many awesome soundtracks of my past this man was responsible for.

  • This is a wonderful theme song. Haha, I could never beat this game when I was little. -sigh-

    Nostalgia to tha maxxxx.

  • Man, I wish more video games nowadays had music like this. Getting sick of generic guitar and orchestral shit that all sounds the same, with a few exceptions of course (God Hand, Lost Odyssey).

  • Don't blame the medium.

    Blame the composers.

  • Do you play indie games at all? You might enjoy VVVVVV. It has some amazing chiptune music.

  • @CattlePuncher True. At least there's 2 latest original Mega Man titles and some freeware games.

  • @CattlePuncher

I have a friend that only likes retro-sounding songs, and a brother that only like orchestral songs.

It's interesting how people's opinions vary so much.

Anyway, if you love this song, I am sure you'd love the Megaman 9 soundtrack.

  • @CattlePuncher HELL YES!

  • @CattlePuncher The chiptunes used to force them to be creative. Now they can do anything, and they chose to do nothing interesting or unique. The limitations on those earlier composers is half of what made their work so brilliant.

  • if you guys are going to fix lyrics for this one, then i seriously can't for you to release.

  • I got the lyrics done...but due to my crappy voice I can't sing them. Also they need major improvements

  • I might be able to help you with the lyrics and singing. I also can play some instruments, but sadly not guitar. Sounds like you're on to something, though.

  • ok. I will put a link on your channel for the lyrics

  • Me and my friend made lyrics for the ending music. The lyrics were about beating robots and getting laid.

  • After listening to this for 2 hours I have decided to make lyrics for it

  • this was an awesome game but...they could have made a better cover

  • All I have to say is: SunSoft.

  • @bozhno

SUNSOFT had some of the awesomest music back in the '80s and '90s. SUNSOFT, Tim and Geoff Follin, RARE, and a few others — some of the best music ever.

  • @KizulEmeraldfire Whatever happened to sunsoft I wonder...

  • The last games released and published by this company in the USA were Eternal Eyes, Blaster Master: Blasting Again, Blaster Master: Enemy Below and Power Quest. Citing several factors, like yet-another "next generation" console transition, and high overhead production costs, Sunsoft closed its offices in America and Europe, and initiated a re-organization. To this day, Sunsoft has continued to operate in Japan, developing and publishing a steady trickle of RPGs, pachinko games and mahjong games

  • They're actually still around, working with Nintendo in some way.

  • This should be the Stage 5 theme. That would have been reminiscent and kick ASS.

  • By far THE best sounding 8-bit track Ive ever heard. The fact this is all possible for something as old as the NES is amazing.

  • I'm surprised Supradarky doesn't have any tunes of Super Spy Hunter also by Sunsoft, check the music for Stage 3 part 1 and 2, they're not as long but nothing short of amazing, considering is running on NES hardware.

  • best game ever. period.

  • Man this is awsome music and I love this game! the best 5 bucks I spent in a long time!

  • Best. NES. Music. Ever.

  • I concur.

  • Under rated VG game for the NES. Kick-ass tunes and gameplay. Easily one of the tops NES games of the late eighties.

  • Not much of an underrated NES game. It was talked about and raved back in the day, but to today's standards, it's completely forgotten. And to tell you the truth, the game itself was released around 1990 or 1991.

  • SunSoft = kings of the eighties, thanks to Naoki Kodaka's insane tunes.

Blaster Master, Journey to Silius, Batman, Super spy hunter... they ALL had awesome soundtracks.

  • AVGN even had to admit that their game FESTER'S QUEST had good music!

  • this made the the top of both of my list of themes that should be orchestrated, and themes I want for ringtones.

  • I so want this as a ringtone :]

  • One of the best NES soundtracks along with Super spy hunter both produced by Sunsoft, I have this song as my ringtone for my blackberry =)

  • Holy crap, this is the one of the best VG songs ever! The only others that compete are River City Ransom 'status screen' song and 'boss fight' song. I still play this game at an embarrassing age.

  • Blaster Master is on this level too, Don't loose your roots son!! lol!!

  • you could put any tune from this game on here

  • Oh yeah my next door neighbour used to have this game and when he came over we rigged my dads uber stereo up to the NES (Mono action yeah!) and cranked this game! We thought it was the shit back then!

  • and you were right

  • For a game I never heard of..it has pretty cool music.

Thoug hearing it; I was put in mind of 'Mega Man' music.

  • Sweet!

  • Best music ever :)

  • THE nes song

  • cant stop tapping my foot. this music is awsome

  • For being a titlescreen tune, this is really rocking. Few games have title music that would do just as good ingame during the actual action as the normal "stage" music.

  • sunsoft = good music period

  • way too good for NES

  • Are you kidding me?? NES stands for

"The golden age of video game music"

Think about games like Megaman 1 to 4, Castlevania 1 to 3 and JTS and many, MANY more!! The composers made AWESOME work

    on the music!!

  • I meant the music chip itself, this game sounds more like a SNES game

  • Yeah, that's true, NES sound chip was VERY

    primitive :)

Sunsoft games (JTS, Batman, BlasterMaster etc.)

did push it to the limits, they really sounded

    awesome!

  • I'm not sure about this, but I think journey to Silius cartridge had a chip to enhance sound. but again, I'm not really sure about this.

  • If that was the case at all, it wasn't in the western versions of the game since the NES does not support external microprocessors.

The Japanese Famicom however, did. Konami was one of the companies making use of this with the so-called VCR6-chip, which was used for games like Castlevania 3. It only added two noise channels to the mix though, so don't expect SNES-quality from that game either.

  • Actually, if I remember correctly, the developers used a special recording technique to bypass some of the NES' usual limitations, which led to this very bass-heavy sound.

It was done without an enhancement chip, which makes it all the more impressive.

  • I don't know, isn't the NES music all programmed? like, it can't be recorded and put on the NES, it has to be programmed in code and the soundchip will use that code to reproduce sound

  • Comment removed

  • either way we can all tell that it required hard-work and a great deal of good ideas to push the soundchip to it's limits, it's certainly something to be amazed by.

  • Journey to Silius didn't contain any additional sound hardware, Wikipedia's explanation is just unclear. The PCM channel on NES is generic digital audio: you can play "anything." In practice that means sampled sound; most games used the PCM for drums(ex. SMB3) but Sunsoft's composers chose to use them for the awesome bass tones instead.

Sunsoft had the best tech on NES. They built their own hardware (FME-7) and had the best quality everything. They probably went over budget on every project :P

  • They did it by making the bass notes digital recordings, rather than the standard MIDI. That's why it sounds so much more different.

  • this game had great music like most Sunsoft games, but this game was actually pretty awesome as well

  • Agreed. Blaster Master was another game that they made use the most of that little primitive chip.

  • Stunning. Gotta love that bass, it's amazing what the humble NES soundchip is capable of when pushed to its limits, and Sunsoft clearly knew how to do this.

I mean, it isn't just a fluke, Batman is another Sunsoft title that seemingly exceeds the normally possible sound-quality for NES. It's like they added an extra chip to the cartridge for additional instruments, but I'm quite sure that's not the case here.

  • Catchy! Never heard of this game, but it's the 2nd song you put on your list from this game, and it's pretty good stuff!

  • Naoki Kodaka, remember this name. He also composed the music for Batman, Blaster Master (my personal favorite), Albert Odyssey and many other titles.

  • Holy crap, this rocks.

  • sunsoft had a knack for music eh

  • I totaly agree with you on that! Batman for the NES has one of my favourite videogame soundtracks of all time!

  • This is a great song!

  • Sounds megamanish

  • And now even the normal video isn't working! I'll wait until later tonight and see what's up if it's still no loner available.

  • Now, only the HQ version is working! Wow, that covers about every possibilities now.

  • If I can listen to this in HQ, I won't complain.

  • Yeah. Youtube is acting really weird right now. I'll just see what's up tomorrow when I wake up.

  • Actually, to let you know, it's doing it to a lot of videos now. One of LuizProwers' vids is having the same problem.

  • Yeah that's what I figured. This video seems ok now at least.

  • Rarely, there are some problems with the high quality when you select "watch in high quality" or you have that option by default, it solves itself eventually.

It works fine 4 me now. good choice 5/5

  • This Title Theme is very impressive!

  • i hope you check it out.

  • Oh Sunsoft, your NES bass track is always so distinguishable.

  • I've been testing the fmt=18 HQ trick for the past 30 minutes and it doesn't seem to work anymore. I still put the link there and hopefully it's temporary.

  • Im going to do another tutorial on this high quality video game music.

  • Ok! Hopefully it doesn't need expensive programs though! lol

  • nope just a simple one. Just wait and see! Tee hee!
