I went to public schools and learned what I could but yeah there were a lot of probs in the school too like when I was suppose to be taking algebra 2~3 teachers quit my junior year for that class. then my art class teacher quit in 12th grade and the dance teach quit and then substitutes.

And the world doesn't need to hear anything about whether or not they are guilty. They are enemy combatents its as simple as that. and since we are at war with their bretheren we have every right to detain them besides the alternative would be to take no prisoners (that means killing them).
People have been all over the world and placed in gitmo. Fighters in Iraq and Afghanistan are not the only people held there. I went to public schools and learned what I could but yeah there were a lot of probs in the school too like when I was suppose to be taking algebra 2~3 teachers quit my junior year for that class. then my art class teacher quit in 12th grade and the dance teach quit and then substitutes.
I also had a pc teacher who is prejudice towards whites and tried to flunk my cuz im white and I had to prove to the principle that I had a higher grade than that.

A rising chorus of GOP leaders are protesting that the blockbuster Democratic stimulus package would provide up to a whopping $5.2 billion for ACORN, the left-leaning nonprofit group under federal investigation for massive voter fraud. and I suppose we should have given japenese and german POW's fair trials too right? don't you realize what sending terrorists into the american legal system would do, it would tie up the courts, meanwhile some state governors are talking about letting prisoners go because they can't afford to pay the guards. Not to mention the conditions at gitmo are actually better then that of american prisons.

but they might not be terrorists, there inocent untill proven guilty. and they cant hold people (who could be innocent) without trial forever. imagin if u wer arrested on suspision of being a terrorist even tho your not and then being held for years without trial. thats what a few people in there could be experiancing

what you fail to realize is that the detainees are enemy combatents captured in combat zones fighting against U.S. troops. Also you fail to realize that THEY ARE NOT AMERICAN CITIZENS therefore they are not entitled to the same legal rights that you and I are entitled to.
The detainees are POWs just like the germans and japanese were in ww2. And what did we do then, we kept them in POW camps until the war was over, then we sent them back home.

A war on terrorism is, by defintion, an endless war. There are no borders or capitals to bomb, and no unified voice to offer an official surrender. And terrorists don't join an army and fight on a battlefield. They hide among normal people. Ergo, people we suspect as being terrorists but are innocent aren't going to be soldiersm they're going to be civilians.

you can say what you want, but the detainess were captured on the battlefield. and you are suggesting that we clog our legal system by giving them trials or are you saying that we should let them go? Either option is a disaster, Gitmo is the best choice for now as they are isolated from the American populace and they sure as hell won't be shooting.

Absolutely I'm suggesting we put them on trial. If they are indeed guilty, let the world hear exactly what they are and let them pay for those crimes. If they are not, we had no business keeping them there to begin with. On the topic of definitions, what do you mean by 'battlefield'? There are many more people in gitmo than ones we've picked up on battlefields in Iraq and Afghanistan.

let me explain something to you, putting them on trial would only waste our tax dollars (would you be willing to pay for their lawyers?) and it would be severely inneficient. And the world doesn't need to hear anything about whether or not they are guilty. They are enemy combatents its as simple as that. and since we are at war with their bretheren we have every right to detain them besides the alternative would be to take no prisoners (that means killing them).

People have been all over the world and placed in gitmo. Fighters in Iraq and Afghanistan are not the only people held there. And yes, I'm sure it will be far harder to try these people fairly than holding them on suspicion. A system based on fair trials and hard evidence isn't there because its convient to implement, its there to separate the innocent from the guilty.

you don't seem to get it, these people aren't your every day criminals nabbed off the street like you see on the show Cops. They are prisoners of war, we are fighting a war, not a domestic drug ring. Therefore, to speak of fair trials is insane. That isn't our priority.

And before you ask, yes, I'm aware these people aren't American citizens. I'm also familiar with a concept introduced in our Declaration of Independence called 'inalienable rights', rights that all human beings should be entitled to. We based our Bill of Rights on that concept- not because we thought our citizens were entitled to more freedoms than anyone else, but so that we would guranatee those freedoms under our government even when no one else would. Gitmo is a living hypocrisy to this.

woa dude, its sounds to me like you are trying to rewrite the constitution there. The constitution is a contract between the people and the government. THE PEOPLE of the U.S. therefore FOREIGNERS ARE NOT ENTITLED TO THE SAME RIGHTS THAT AMERICANS ARE ENTITLED TO IN THE U.S. You go to any other country and you will not have the same rights as its citizens.

Your distortion of what I said is scary. Not once do I make any legal claims regarding the Constitution or what it says. But inalienable rights was a concept that clearly extended beyond the scope of who the Constitution could legally protect. So we might not have a legal imperative to respect the rights of folk beyond our borders- but we certainly have an ideological and moral one. Our history and our values are better than this.
