  • Como se llama la pieza que toca al final? Amigos

  • He teaches SO much better than Heifetz...

  • i play guitar, but i love watching perlman masterclasses. its so rare to see a master get so happy when someone nails what they're suggesting

  • For those of you who watched the "Perlman in Russia" video in its entirety, what is the title of the piece she is playing at 1:20 and Perlman interrupts "Can you show off here" and then he exposes his trouser braces

  • what is the name of the piece that the girl is playing?

  • @erenunal Valse Scherzo by Tchaikovsky

  • the piece?

  • what's the piece??

  • First I was like, 'lol to these people it's like he's godsent or something..'

and now after I watched this video I was like 'He IS god and I know it!'

  • loving the clear aviators

  • Wow what a great teacher!!

  • And then you say, "Isn't this beautiful?" I like that part.

  • a perfect violinist, and an impeccable teacher. O' captain my captain.

  • When Itzhak smiles, he reminds me of George Costanza! What a great and warm hearted teacher

  • You would of pooped your pants if you had to play in front of Heifetz!

  • Perlman is just so layed back and listens to every single little thing, Anyone know the name of the first piece. By the way, just to add in, I'd trade my soul and my life to be taught by Itzhak Perlman, or Zuckerman for that matter because he's a violist. I've been playing for 7 years now, I hope to be as good as Zuckerman in 40 or 50 years, I need money to pay for exquisite lessons though haha,

"Not polite Gypsy music" hehe Perlman.

  • @TheViolaMaestro Tzigane

  • 4:05 Amazing transformation with this little bit of advice...

  • Gosh he's not only playing in front of Itzahk Perlman....Look at all those people!

  • This is Ravel's Tzigane- the guy plays it with a lightness and elan that's just awesome

  • can someone tell me which song this is?

  • true inspiration, going beyond ordinary and great divine that is. To the realm of angels the language of music takes us.

    Thank you for the experience.

  • @klop9000 He's one of the best violinists in the world. Even if you have the money enough to pay him, he probably wouldn't teach anyone.

  • He talks so slowly - with

    so many gaps..... quite trying

  • if i played in front of him, my whole body would have been doing vibrato. he is so great and i love him. thank you sososo much for posting

  • Does he teach children?

  • @kiop9000 He does. He teaches some of the Pre-College students in Juilliard.

  • No me canso nunca de ver este video, creo que el Maestro Perlman ha de ser una gran persona, ver este video me emociona, gracias maestro!

Never I am tired to see this video, I think the maestro Perlman has been a great person, to see this video make my emotions on my skin, thank you maestro!

  • 1:31 soo uglyy :/

  • Danielli0402,

The piece is "Tzigane" by Ravel. It's wonderful.

  • sorry, just wanna ask wat piece is he playing ? not itzhak perlman

  • The best always lead by example and positive reinforcement, and here Perelman shows us how. Great stuff!

  • holy shit his english is exceptional.

  • ..you only have so much time in a master class, it is more about the pleasure of being upclose with the master.....

  • 14 people don't like music.

  • @CrackshotWilly ...loved that!!!

  • 4:55, 5:12, 5:14 are FUNNY!!!!!!!!

  • I have seen many a masterclass and Perlman is one of the most kind. Looking beyond the hero worship the value really is in mining gems of wisdom from one of the greatest masters of our time. It is as if the musician him/herself is allowing the master to tune them.

  • im counting how many 'exactly' he has said

  • i would literally do anything, absolutely anything to take a masterclass or a lesson with him

  • hes such a nice person!

  • thanks perlman has such a gooooooooooooooooooodddddddddd sound

  • Bravo!

    Merci.

  • isnt tzigane the piece played in the video??

  • @koxilakos1193

Yes, it is, one of them. Played by Pavel Berman.

  • HOLY CRAP! I heard an actual improvement...

  • My friends knows someone who was a neighbor of someone who worked in a store that was owned by someone who once knew someone who knew his father...

  • Perlman is master and a mensch! I also love his rich, plummy speaking voice. He is one of the few performers around these days who can articulate musical thoughts to lay people without sounding neither snobbish nor inarticulate. He is one of the best!

  • I can't imagine a better teacher. sort of like learning piano from Elton John.

  • @barquester or saxophone from kenny G

  • it is so great to hear him encourage, as opposed to heifitz who preferred to dismantle his students emotionally.

  • @operalament As far as Heifetz's teaching goes, Sherry Kloss, Erick Friedman, Ayke Agus, & Eugene Fodor {among others} would completely disagree with you. Perlman is so worried about hurting someone's feelings & being misinterpreted that he fails to make a salient point. Heifetz taught students who could barely speak a word of English but never allowed a language barrier to get in his way. He was very direct. Heifetz, by the way, was fluent in at least 10 languages. Perlman is no Heifetz.

  • @unclejuniorsoprano Perlman is no Heifetz, agreed. But once must also agree that Heifetz is no Perlman. Different teaching styles affect different people. I didn't know that Heifetz could speak at least 10 languages, that's pretty cool, but it's as Perlman says "It's an international language." I think that he got plenty across to the performers. You can't really judge his teaching on this video. It's plainly cut. Also, playing for someone like Perlman is teaching enough for one masterclass.

  • @Stringy007 You don't know what you're talking about. Heifetz changed violin playing forever. He is the violinist whom all others are compared with, not Perlman. Perlman is the first to admit that he could only dream of playing like Heifetz. Perhaps the only other violinist who compares with Heifetz is Michael Rabin. Perlman & Rabin studied with Ivan Galamian & Perlman attended MR's funeral. Heifetz's abilities were extraordinary & both Perlman & Stern revere him as the top of the heap.

  • @Stringy007 OK. umm Heifetz hasn't changed violin playing anymore than Perlman. There isn't any hierarchy in this... They were/are both great. They were totally different. What does attending Rabin's funeral have to do with anything? What does Isaac Stern have to do with this either? You seem like YOU don't know what you are talking about. You are making up random things in attempts to prove me wrong. There is nothing wrong with this masterclass and you should learn to respect all of the greats.

  • @Stringy007 To say that Heifetz is no Perlman doesn't make any sense at all. That's like saying Mohammad Ali is no Jerry Quarry. Heifetz made several landmark recordings over the course of his long career, but I don't recall even 1 of Itzhak Perlman's. As for being a great teacher, the Heifetz Master Classes is a testimony to that. I have several of Perlman's recordings & like much of what he does, but Heifetz is in a category of his own. Isaac Stern regarded him as unapproachable in talent.

  • Wieniawski: Etude-Caprice Op. 18 no. 4 is the last piece

  • The piece at the end is the Etude-Caprice Op. 18 no. 4 by Wienawksi

  • Could anyone tell me what's the concert he plays in the end of the video? ;D Thanks

  • Wieniawski Violin Concerto

  • It's the Etude-Caprice Op. 18 no. 4 from Wienawski

  • 5:05 - 5:15 is the best xD

  • omg...5:05 - 5:1

  • Tzigane by Ravel

  • @brassmonkeyjew Haha, I'm guessing you're kidding? If so, yes. Itzhak Perlman is quite scary. I'd just hate to be taught by him.....<3

  • Sorry i'm jew-phobic. It's because i was circumcised by one when i was just a lil lad... So it's nothing personal to Itzhak. They all make me shiver like a cold wet baby...

  • Comment removed

  • what's the first piece the student plays?

  • Tzigane - Ravel

  • @ByePaulette thanks a lot :)

  • Is this guy class, or what? Wonderful.

  • eh eh it's the international language forte piano piano forte eheh grazie maestro perlman

  • I get chills listening to Perlman play. How in the world does he do that so effortlessly?

  • He is some kind of genius...

    It is a gift.

  • What is the name of the student? i mean he played fantastic

  • like making one mistake in front of perlman is like ruining ur whole music life...lol like amking a million mistakes 0.o

  • Holy crap I would've pissed in my pants if I had to play in front of Itzhak Perlman

  • @Refosproductions So would I, ......and I only play the triangle!

  • @Refosproductions playing for Mr. Perlaman AND an audience would just give me a heart attack

  • @Refosproductions --but he uses constructive critisism...and is nice about it. My teacher always tells me.."You did really well" It's really good for the soul and helps you keep your passion for your instrument and not get discouraged.--Joni

  • @Refosproductions

well, not if you were a russian violinist!

  • @Refosproductions same here. I mean I can play concerts and play in front of relatives but one thing I cannot do is play for someone I dont personally know in front of an audience then have him critique me.

  • @Refosproductions

I worked a catering function where the owner of my company asked Perlman "How is everything?" He said regarding the teachers who were performing... "All I have left are my ears, tell the band to stop or I am leaving"

  • @Refosproductions how dare we...

  • @Refosproductions you and me both

  • @Refosproductions Much rather Perlman than Heifetz.

  • oh sorry i thought u were were talking about the old man! llol

  • In what year this vid was recorded?

  • son of a bitch ,the young guy played perfectly in front of Itzak Perlman!!

  • the young violinist is Pavel Berman

  • What a man, an incredible talent and a great communicator too. I've seen many masterclasses which plonk a genius on a stage who can't face people and teach.

  • perlman's way of using humor and clear language really made the master class great. He's an awesome violinist/teacher.

  • He's an inspiration!

  • "I played the Wieniaswky, I happened to know it, and she sort of.. eh.. faked through it and it was just fine" Lol Perlman was always a character

  • shut upp !! :@@ talking :@

  • Perlman is great. So inspiring. So funny! haha.

  • What is piece is the "not polite gypsy music" the young student at the beginning is playing?

  • tzigane by Ravel

  • Ravel's Tzigane would be the Gypsy music.

  • And yet..I can't leave ITZHAK PEARL-MAN !!! ..UNCOMMENTATED..:-)

Having this video on my favourites,I return again and again to it..He is so HONEST and GOODHEARTED,and ,yes,MODEST :-)..

I've learned some of ITZHAK 's SUCCESS secrets I guess ...Thank you for this GREAT MASTER class!!!

  • Comment removed

  • i think he's a great also because he's modest, and I like a lot great people with this great thing

  • A great artist with a great personality and soul, that means a lot...

  • haha... Itzhak may not be the best player out there... but for me, he is the best... the greatest!! I just love how he puts emotions on his playing and his "eye-closing, no-looking at the left hand thing" haha... Itzhak rocks!! And I think his friendly personality and sense of humor makes his playing even greater!!

  • haha! I didn't practice today lol.

  • Wieniawski Caprice #4 in A Minor

  • not POLITE gypsy music...

    lol

  • What dvd is this from?

  • Was The boy who was playing Tzigane by Ravel the young Pavel Berman, son of the great pianist Lazar Berman?

  • No.

  • What peice is the first one that is played?

  • Comment removed

  • what piece is the second person playing?

  • Tzigane yeah!Perlman is so amazing!

  • "It's like you were holding a pencil and trying to draw pictures!"

NOW I have something witty to say to my friend (who also draws pictures with her scroll)! xDD

  • Oh, Perlman, I LOVE YOU!!

I really thought a masterclass with him would be much more expensive, I would pay that only for being with him one hour... but I think the problem is not the price, it is: how do you contact him and convinced to have one hour??

  • Try getting into the Perlman program... I'm in it. check out the website. :)

  • Thank you very very much!!

  • What a brilliant man...

  • i wooonder how much it would cost to have classes with him.....AND what violin is he playing???

  • He plays a stradivarius right now I'm not sure what he played when the video was mad. Usually famous soloist charge upward of 400 dollars an hour. It sounds like a lot but keep in mind their time is more limited than their students, and their students are generally people (adults) getting ready for auditions with symphonies to get a job. Most musicians stick it out and hope for a master class since they are usually free to students, paid by an organization.

  • He plays the "Soil" Stradivarius made in 1715.

  • "Piano forte" is Italian :p

  • I wonder...does Itzhak Perlman have like a youtube account? that would be so awesome

  • *The First one

  • Could Someone Indicate me wich is the Song Played ?

  • Tzigane, from Ravel

  • Perlman you are amazing . I love you and your beautiful Violin playing . I wish my students would take a leaf out of his books . I am SO fed up of telling them they have to practise Jeez :(

  • I practiced today! lol

  • I didn't practice today (LOL)...classic....

  • wow what a charismatic personality

  • maestro indeed!

  • You can hear the kid get better as gets advice.

  • draw pictures! xDDDDD LOL

  • Gret teacher!!! Great violinist!!!

  • hilarious

  • PERLMAN! You are AMAZING. omg I wishhh I could hav a lesson with him. I went to the Yehudi Menuhin School..but I missed Menuhin by one year so sad! ..

  • is pearlman narrating this?

  • Yup.

  • Perlman

    Model Master

    Pleasant personality, great violinist.

    Thanks

  • Is this from a TV documentary or an actual movie? how can I get a copy of this tape? is it available in stores? what is the name of the documentary?

many thanks for posting it !!!!!!!

  • what's the last one?

  • Ok, thanks

  • the first

  • Ravel`s Tzigane.

  • What song is that?

  • The first or the second, or the last piece?

  • He is sweet and gentle and hence very sexy

  • Agreed!

  • OMG!!!LOL

  • i would like him to teach me theory and articulation so i can be a master guitar player

  • his voice is very cool....

  • I hope Perlman nows it is HAENDEL or Händel !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • he is wonderful. very diplomatic and gentle with his criticisms. a real violinist.

  • does anybody know why he doesn't he use a shoulder rest? i thought that was just a standard thing...

  • dude it depends upon ur neck structure. but one thing ive noticed is thet all the old people ( perlman, mutter, stern etc etc) dont use shoulder rest

  • well for one thing, the should rest is a fairly new invention. I doubt that Perlman learned using one and so he decides not to now because it probably would mess up his posture and then everything is all messed up...your bow perception, distance perception, etc etc

  • true true....i totally agree....

  • actually the shoulder rest WAS invented by the time of perlman's birth. shoulder rest actually fixes the posture into one whole posture which isn't flexible. many old master's didn't move so much since there was always space between the fiddle and the neck. that makes everything so much easier to play and believe me big body movements can distract ur playing

  • absolutly by option

I wear it during practice but I take it off for proformances,it gives me more open space to reach all my strings comforably

  • supposely shoulder rest absorb the sound. In fact, everyone can play without shoulder rest. Just try it at home for 5 times. u'll feel weird the first time, and then somehow you don't want to put it on anymore.

  • oh i see. i had no idea it absorbed the sound...guess that makes sense though. i think i have to use one b/c i have a longer neck though. i guess as long as it doesn't affect your performance, it doesn't matter!

  • Don't listen to him. That's a false misconception. In fact, some shoulder rests even enhance the sound of a violin. In any case, even if you have a long neck you can play without one. However, it does not absorb sound in any way.

  • How can you play without a shoulder rest??? Doesn't the instrument slip out (especially when you shift)? Musicians used to play without shoulder rests years ago but I think they have definately been an improvement!!!

  • no some violinists necks are too short for one so they use a cloth or like me I use a very soft alternative foam rest. It's very possible.

  • All violinists can play without a shoulder rest if taught properly.

Also, all of the top violinists did not use shoulder rests.

  • not true. hilary hahn uses a chin rest

  • well good musicians played without it, i guess when u see them play with out it, that want to do it old school, get a feel how back in the day violinist do it
