I am Kathy. the bitch that let him down on his death bed. ... I am sorry to his family, friends and most of all you Wally that wanted me there. I loved you . but at your last days I could not .... I just could not. . I was not able to handle loosing you. That was my falt. Loosing you was enough.. Watching you suffer... I Just would not watch anymore. It was hard, but I've never gotton over you my love. your always in my heart. .... Forever. ... xoxoxo Miss you my love
I was lead guitarist in a band called Cathouse with Wally before 1980. We made a demo at Quadradial just before Pat Travers came in and made "Heat in the Street." at that time, Wally was still playing a bass that he had made, shaped like a Rickenbacker 4001.
Also sounds like a lot of John Entwhistle influence here. I dunno how he gets such a powerful attack with what looks like a really light touch on the strings. Flawless pinch harmonics too!
Never heard of this guy before, and it's truly a shame, because this is some of the most original aggressive metal bass playing I have heard. Yeah, reminds me of Cliff, too (Got to see him do a similar distorted solo on his Ric in Knoxville back in 86). This was really cool; thx 4 sharin'!
this so cool when I looked up my Cousin Wally and found a video of him. The last time I saw Wally before he past was when he was on tour with Yngwie Mamsteen Trilogy and he Kicked Ass in that show. After we hung out for a few hours before the bus left.
Wow, thank you SO very much for posting this. He was amazing!!! I've recently started to pick my electric bass back up (and am attempting to learn double bass) and this is very inspiring!!!
I remember 1997, few months after buying my first Bass guitar, a friend borrowed me a vinyl album called "Out of the Sun". I got TOTALLY stunned right in the first track (Eternity's End) when I listened that strange and fast "keyboard-like" Bass. I wasn't aware there was a "technique" called Tapping... I was a two-month beginner and at that time there was no internet or easy info... My friend told me about that technique and I decided to dig myself on it REALLY deep! Wally made my Tapping!
that looks incredibly hard to do, but i can't help but think it would sound better and play easier on a six string. and the finger tapping sounds like what i imagine dropping the utensil drawer onto the kitchen floor would sound like, only sustained.
I don't know what happened there, I was commenting on your video of you playing Tom Sawyer. I never even saw this Wall Voss video - but I just did now - awesome!
Wally has changed not only the face of bass but the pace of bass forever. I am humbled for having had the good fortune to perform with him for many years. He was an incredible player and a very close friend. Must be one helluva band where he's at now. Check out his last compositions at his (myspace(dot)com/wallyvoss ) site. Vossome!
You're a lucky duck to have played with the Wallster, Dennis. Do you know how many times I have watched this video now? I love Wally sooo much! I can never thank you enough... HUGGGZZZ
@vineyardedge Wally Voss was my 2nd cousin and I saw him play with Jaco Pastorius in 1982 at the Musicians Exchange and the Dixie Dregs and Steve Morse.. It was amazing watching all of them on stage together... Musicians Exchange was in Fort Lauderdale Florida
