So I did some digging and found the piece in question. It's the Menuet in Bach's French Suite No. 2, BWV 813. IMSLP has some good, clean manuscripts of the entire suite.
Hey thanks for the reply, i had to delve into "one long tune" to find out and thought the same. I freakin love the sound of this guitar! kinda ghetto but not at the same time..
Thanks for posting the entire documentary. I lost count of all the e-mails back and forth with Emily... glad that this work is finally available in its entire form.
I'm a Lenny Breau fanatic, I'm in love with the guy, I started a therapy group for people like me...... Lenny was so hot...I'd be equally honoured if you joined the group and shared some of your personal feelings on Lenny, for those who are equally warped and deranged.
Hi Don-doubt you'd remember me. We hope you're well and so glad to see this vid. with you and Lenny. Many people in common. Ron Perry Jr.(Evans-Perry) says hello. His daughter Linda and I are partners and I'm still buds with PJ Perry. There's just enough love to go around for everyone...
virginian2331 How can I contact Don Franks? Is he in Los Angelos? I know he's about 76 now but I'd like to contact him but don't know how? mastercollector
@wckoek I have verified that this is, in fact, NOT BWV Anh.132. I've played that piece (and Anh.114) a ton and neither sound anything like this. It definitely fits the Magdalena minuet mold, though. There aren't many transcriptions of the others so I'm going through the harpsichord manuscript (with soprano clef!) to find the one that matches. Anyone that recognizes it, please chime in!
I have watched this clip at least 50 times and every time I see it I love it more and more. Lenny Breau was a musical genius. And this trio sound so beautiful.
Thanks fo making life more beautiful with things like these.
Who's the greatest football player in the history of the NFL? Who's the greatest baseball player ever? What about in the NBA; probably Michael Jordan. In boxing Sugar Ray Robinson was the best ever but even this is up for debate. But with Lenny Breau, there is no debate, he is the best, no question!
In the new Lenny Breau bio One Long Tune, it says that this is from a Canadian National Film Board documentary called Toronto Jazz 62. It's still available online. Great Clip!
It is great to see this creative session with Lenny, Don, and Ian. It is also a cool insight into the workings of a young Don Francks. What a guy! A real hipster. Thanks.
Priceless footage... and the way they treat that Bach piece here is so beautiful... I hope there's a recording of it out there that'll surface some day...

This is very nice. Don Francks would be impressed with the kind words. Morgan you certainly are proud of your grandpa. He is truly extra-ordinary.
