  • nobody can understand benchrest shooting because it is not understandable to do it. I guess even in rifle sports there has to be the geek club....which is benchresters

  • why do benchrest shooters never use suppressors? is it because they suppressor changes the harmonics of the barrel? I think that if theyre testing ammunition they should do it suppressed and unsuppressed. full power loads of course.

  • i think a better name for this is ammunition testing...

  • i would have enjoyed this video a lot if it weren't in fucking icelandish =(

  • wheres the skill / fundamentals in that? that isnt shooting, thats weak as it gets...

  • @danthman114 A quick google search reveals that the point of this particular type of shooting is too as accurately as possible(obviously).

A lot of skill and patience goes into fine tuning the loads and judging the wind all to put a single bullet through the same hole at 200 yards. So no, its not shooting for you. But for someone else, its their preferred way of shooting.

  • @danthman114 Your just not understanding, with BR shooting its all about the result, the actual skill is in the reloading I reload myself but I bet they spend more time loading 1 round than I do reloading 20. Ive seen a vid of a guy shoot 3 shots that near went through each other at 300 yards with a slight wind, no factory ammo in the world would do that.

  • @danthman114 The main skill is in judging the conditions (wind, heat, elevation, humidity) and developing very accurate, consistent loads.

  • what are your thoughts on a 6BR because i got one built

  • if the sun ever comes out there in iceland and hits the stock on that gun its gonna vaporize a iceburg. lol no idea what was said other then likely some comment if he had a beach and more sun he would sit in that cold valley a lot less?

  • whats the point in this kind of shooting?

  • @Scorpac it helps with the future development of precision rifles. Its because of sportsman like this we have modern sniper rifles. Accuracy International for example was started by Olympic and bench rest shooters. With their knowledge of making precision rifles like these bench rest guns it gave birth to the Arctic Warfare series of rifles.

  • @phamax111 alright, but its not an olympic discipline?

  • @Scorpac I never said it was. I'm just trying to say those things go hand in hand.

  • beautiful gun!! What model that is? I have Tikka T3 Hunter cal.308 and i want learn reloading again cartridges, but i need first reloading ammunitions eguipments, what model you recommend? Thank you :)

  • Nice looking rifle, shame about the monstrous concoction below

  • this is not shooting. this would be just too boring for me.

  • this bullshit would greatly benefit from computerized aiming and automated loading and firing controls.. it'd take the human factor out of the equation all together.

  • Love these vids.

  • and if i may add good shooting to them

  • he is match shooting it takes that to be one hole ! that why they mic the hole

  • wtf this is considered shooting? fail...

  • what rifle and what caliber

  • @bobiscool308 6 MM PPC the red one. 7 MM Rem Mag the Black one !

  • @birgrunar 6mm PPC i understand. its a typical benchrest caliber. but the 7mm rem mag?? i have a rifle chambered in 7mm remington magnum and i dont see how it is a caliber for benchrest shooting. is there something im missing?

  • @imjustwonderful . Yes, you are missing the weight of the black rifle, which is a 1000 yard gun.

  • its the modern times.

improvement is made in the top-end of the sports.

formula 1 doensnt look like a simple car race.

  • youre so wrong gotmituns.

when the first guy on my local gunrange put a riflescope on hid gun. everybody said that it wasnt a sport anymore. now he only will shoot 10's

a couple of years later a guy supported his rifle with a pillow, and again everybody said the same.

you should have heard then whem the first 223rem enterd the range.

223 rem is gay, everything less noisy than .308 is gay the shooted.

tham the 6mm came, and again they said its no sport.

    then the mechanical fore-rest came.

  • shooting supposed to be fun. this is not fun. these people do not seem to be enjoying... i would rather not hit the target but at least shoot the rifle for real.

  • Nice guns!

  • @kropatchekfanclub Thank You !

  • typical city folk,

  • I made mine by cutting the pant legs off a pair of old camo military pants, filled with rice (can use all kinds of things..bird seed, small beans etc) sewed up ends. I also decided to salvage a piece of black strap off an old bag and sewed that from one bag to the other just to keep them together and make for easier carrying. I then cut out the foam in the shape of the bags from my rifle case so it closed nice. The whole system works great and the cost was 0.00 as all the stuff was salvage.

  • Benchrest is more a test of your skills as an ammunition reloader than just plain shooting. Any shooter/firearm/ammo combination that can constantly group 10 consecutive shots under 1/4" deserves the accolade of "they have definately found the harmony and balance in of their firearm and ammunition".

  • could anyone please tell me what's the name of the rifle at 0:54???

    maybe it's custom

  • Seems like it would be fun for 5 rounds...

  • good shooting

  • Flott viðtal og útskýrin um BR á Íslensku. Þetta er erfiðara en margir halda.

  • they don't even look through the sights when shooting! not to knock the bench resters, but this seems more like being a machinist than a marksman

  • @bsrman36 yes it is and fucking cheating =) totaly agree whit you

  • wealthy execise

  • Desert Eagle beats those guns

  • Benchrest shooting is more about being an Engineer than being a Shooter.

  • they dont even look through the scope. this is just a test of the gun and what its capable of.

This style is great for developmental work on your rifle and gear, but it doesnt help your position, trigger control, breathing, or any fundamentals of shooting.

  • There not skill in shooting with a rest..

  • @INCOLOR08 Try it, and you will be surprised !

  • @birgrunar Really... I have... Im a former US Army Sniper with 10th SFG. Trust me.. There no skill involved in rested shooting.,....

  • @birgrunar I have.. Im a former US Army Sniper with the 10th SFG. Trust me, there is no skill in rested shooting.

  • @INCOLOR08 You think so ! Try it. Go to nearest BR match. Let me know after shooting.

  • @birgrunar LOL theres no skill at it all in this its fucking cheating they dont do anything and i could shoot like that standing at 120m

  • @birgrunar hahahahahahahahaha! You obviously have no clue. BR shooting is for fags! Real world situation tactical is where its at. These wimps on benches dont know shit! Gimme a 17 hmr and a rest like this and I could out shoot Carlos H while being blind folded. Little bit of wind to play thats about all the challenge that is in this. I would rather stick my wang in a blender than shoot like these pussy candy ass mo fo's.

  • @INCOLOR08

So you can consistently shoot groups 1/4" or better with a rest?

Post your local scores from your last BR match and then brag.

  • @INCOLOR08 +++++ totaly agree whit you its cheating to use rests they dont even have to think at anything

  • @birgrunar tried it a million times lol i shoot 1000 yds on a bench without a benchrest rifle and still get 1/8 moa

  • @birgrunar. no he wont be suprised just bored

  • @bomanio1 I seeeeeeeeeeeee...........

  • @INCOLOR08

And you would know because you are the expert.

  • oooh, putting the phosphor bronze back throught the barrel is bad practice

  • @tomeanator80 No this is ok do not believe the crap. Cleaning barrels is about cleaning ! Not theories.

  • @tomeanator80 lol, i bet he shoots tighter groups that you!!

  • @tomeanator80 i bet he shoots tighter groups that you...

  • @varminteruk well.. yeah, seeing as he has his gun on a rest, and is barely touching it. the fact that i am 16 and i will be shooting in the european long range fullbore championships this october, and then going to shoot the palma match next year in australia isn't all that bad for my age tbh..

  • @tomeanator80 , i was talking about any ill effects of pulling the brush back through the bore, sorry if it sounded like i was questioning your shooting ability.

  • meh nice rifles but i rather watch a competetion where the shooter is the factor...

  • the trigger pull on that rifle looks really light

  • SVEN knows how to shoot

  • Stihlpony how could a bronze brush designed to be soft and forgiving, destroy a much harder metal such as the barrel?

  • @alexblokal The only thing that is bad is pulling the brush back threw the crown , because it pushes carbon into the crown! You want to push the crap out and not pull it back in and have it act like lapping compound to the crown ! Bronze or brass brushes are ok but i use nylon , and don't ever run mine back threw!! Just unscrew the brush and pull out your rod ! Remember that when you hand lap a barrel the compound is softer than the steel barrel itself !!! Sad but true!!!

  • that's not shooting for me........

  • thats a leopold. my granddad is huge into guns. he owns a gun company where he makes guns. i have that same bench set up :D

  • @paintballlpplayer45 What do u mean u have the same bench setup?

  • @RachieeD "bench setup" as in the setup he shooting off of. not his gun.

  • lol, ok, i was just checking cause i was gonna say if u had the same rifle that would be extremely unlikely.

    Wat kinda rifle u got?

  • haha yeah i was talking about what he was shooting off of.

my first gun was a 10/22 that my granddad gave me when i was like 8. he hand lapped the barrel. gosh, no joke i can put 5 bullets literally in the same hole at 50 yards. ive got a green hogue stock on it with a simmons scope. some butler creek 25 rnd mags. i hunt with a cz. its a 6.5 grendel with hallow tip or not depending on whats loaded. he said its 3600 fps. bushmaster ar with hogue accessories.

  • ahh nice little collection u got there, i would love a 10/22 but there 2 hard to get here in Aus. 6.5 Grendel is a great caliber but even light rounds only go about 2900fps. CZ make a great rifle, i got one of there .22's and love it.

  • oh i hear ya. well i was told it was 3600 fps. maybe not. idk but ya i love the CZ.

  • Comment removed

  • I laughed at the folks who said this is so easy , and once you dial the gun in it will always hit in the same spot.

They forgot about the surrounding environment, Wind, temperature, humidity, or physics, or the biological factors ?? ALL are variables playing a part in this and are often hard to judge.

I have made some ragged one-hole 3-shot groups at 100 and 200 meters. One time the heat shimmer was so bad it was like looking through water--until a strong crosswind blew it away-- easy ? No.

  • Look at the forearm on those rifles!

  • Honestly i didnt wanna get into a bitching match just add my 2 cents which the comment button is there for but you pretty much took it there.

  • Comment removed

  • What skill does this take??

You might as well have a machine shoot for u.. Anyone can set a rifle on a stand and shoot the same spot............

  • No they can't. That's like saying anyone can kick a ball into a net. There is WAY more going on here than you can see.

  • @TwoHandsNY Yea but thats like saying no one can kick a ball into the new with a automatic kick machine you can line up at the half mark.. Yea pretty much anyone can.. This takes about 75% of the difaculty out of shooting. No form needed dont have to worry about brething..heart beat.. ect.

  • YOU couldn't do it. I have heard all kinds of BS from people how easy it is but when they sit down at my gun with my ammo and my target all I hear are excuses. You don't know what your talking about so keep your comments to yourself.

  • @mrmidnight32 your right...I know when im shooting my BRETHING is a major problem. I just BR shoot now so its easy : )

    lmfao

  • @mrmidnight32 To my knowledge the gun has already been setup, once its up and running its all up to the ammunition.

  • Exactly!

  • @detectiveinspekta Shooter still has to adjust for several other factors...

    *Changes in wind

*Changes in BBL temp (BBL heats up makes shots deviate)

  • it definetly not as hard as just proping up

  • You should NEVER run the bore brush back threw the crown ! You should push it threw and unscrew it !! Because it will polish or lap the crown and force carbon into the fine scratches you just put in it !!!

  • Nope !

Go to a Bench Rest Match and watch the specialists, cleaning their rifle barrel ! You will learn a lot, promise.

Same process as in videos here.

    I learned from them.

  • Not to get in i pissing match ,but check out the video on " barrel maker john krieger interview " and see what the best barrel maker in the world says about crowns @ 4:10 into the interview! Not only do i shoot competitive but i also install barrels , and have almost seen it all when it comes to people screwing up barrels ! Just because some person with a $10,000 bench gun cleans his gun like that, doesn't mean you should screw your barrel up to ! It's WRONG and should NEVER be drug back threw!

  • @birgrunar I just watched an interview with John Krieger and he would disagree with you. I'm no expert but in my mind it would be a bad idea as well. You'll end up pushing lots of carbon fouling around your crown.

  • @whitey211 Krieger has his opinion. If he scratches the crown when he is cleaning a barrel, then something is wrong. Copper brush goes forward through crown, and then backwards through crown. On which pass is the copper brush scratching crown ??? Did Mr. Krieger define that ? My Hart barrels I shoot are tack drivers out to 4000-5000 shots. This cleaning process is done by the best bench rest competitors.

I personally have never seen a scratch in crownings of barrels I clean this way.

  • @birgrunar he's not saying that it will scratch the crown, just that it will leave fouling on the crown.

  • @whitey211 All bench rest shooters inspect barrel bore, to see to it that it is clean. Did Mr. Krieger teach you how to inspect barrel bore ???

We BR shooters DO clean the barrel, otherwise less accuracy. The easiest thing to spot is, if there is some copper or powder fouling in front of barrel, close to crowning. I at least have a special inspecting method for the front end of barrel and crowning. This can be learned from one other video I have here: Cleaning Rifle Barrel Bore.

    All the best.

  • good shooting for such high winds.

  • ive got a remington 700 ADL and i was wondering if you had any input on a barrel that i can get 1/4 moa out of. im getting 1 moa out of the stock barrel with premium ammunition and proper cleaning and barrel break in

  • I have a 700 adl in 270 win and i currently took off the 22" barrel and put on a krieger barrel with the same caliber . Breaking the barrel in i went from 1" to under a 1/4 inch in about 40 shots of break in time! Thats with handloads using berger 140 gr VLDHPBT 's!!! When you get your barrel fitted by a gunsmith have him do all the machine work like truing up the action and crown work !!Krieger barrels are by far the best thing i could have bought to get the most out of my rifle!

  • Which is normal accuracy for a barrel that the factory pounded out at a cost of $20.

The keys to accuracy are a tight chamber that is concentric to the bore axis. Then neck turn your brass. In my experience american brass is really sloppy.

Next, after you've replaced the barrel (Shilen, McMillan, Douglas, Kreiger) and had the rifle pillar bedded in a stock that fits your body, Put a good ($500 +) quality scope on it. For bench shooting you'll want a variable power (4-16, 6-24) Leupold.

  • Those barrels are awesome! I think the outer barrel reinforces the rigidity of the main barrel to improve stability and eliminate flexing. Not for hunting though, it might be so heavy to carry around.

  • The rolls royce of guns. This type of sport measures the gunsmith's skills, not the shooting skills of the shooter. Both are just very challenging.

  • 0:55 the barrel on that thing haha

  • benchrest shooting is fucking gay. no effort at al, at least take the rear support away.

this is not testing the shooter, but the rifle

  • Yep I think its shit too but its still shooting but a different type.

Some people buy golf clubs and only use them on the driving range! same thing. Sad but it happens man.

  • I hardly see any person under the age of 50 shooting bench rest...guess there are many factors to this shooting, time, money (retirement fund), skills of a life time (hand loadings, ballistics reading, etc), and a perfect to run away from your wife once your kids left for college...lol.

  • Then show everyone that you found a person that can shoot a 10-group shot at 1000 yards (stardard F-class range) that's under 4.5". No elevation/windage knobs, no rests, and from the shoulder (because a rifle is a "shoulder" weapon).

  • a skilled person actually looks down the scope the whole time because they dont use a freakin rifle stand like this these guys just sit here on a bench line the gun up with knobs not there hands but little turning knobs and then when they shoot they dont even look down the scop thats wut a rifle is its a SHOULDER weapon like i said this is no skill required and he responded back and said that if i tried it i would love it well guess wut this is probly the most boring thing i have ever done

  • No skills? I beg to differ. Yes, these rifle are custom built and cost thousands of dollars but you can look up the scores and see for yourself. Many skills such as wind reading, Coreolis effect (Earth's Rotation) compensation, and knowing when and where to adjust your rifle are all amazing skills these people have. About 98-99% of all F-class shooters reload their cartridges. Reloading match-grade ammo is a highly prized skill that not all people can do.

  • all u guys who sit on the bench and just use a stand for ur gun and when u shoot ur not even touchin the gun theres no skill required... theres people out there that do this without all these rifles rests and little bitch adjuster knobs to adjust the rifle angles and shit how can u even enjoy this

  • Sorry, I can't decipher your horrendous 'text spk'.

I've no doubt it was a very worthwhile snippet of knowledge you offered, but as it's so 'meh', I can't say for sure.

  • Boring... no skills required...just a gazillion dollars rifle + queality really accurate reloads and thats alll.... the rest might be a bit of luck

  • You should have a try, you will be surpriced !

  • I havnt tried that level of rifles.... but been shooting long distance with some friends tactical rifles.... 500 yard range, 5 shots groups, the size of a fist....

Sure its fun... but the bench its like cheating jajajaj

  • @xeriotti +1 almost welded into a bench, what kind of shooting is that? everything is eliminated by those supports..you dont have to do anything..just right squeeze..and thats it. give him sandbag and bipod..we see then

  • this is not shooting. Its just equipment. your taking the human factor out of the task. Just by the mere fact when they pull the trigger their not even looking through the scope show it not about skill. it about equipment and how you set it up

  • @95tahoe1 it is obvious that you do not understand the sport--setup, follow through, and reading the wind and mirage is what this game is about---if you think it is all about equipment--come on out and shoot registered competition with us and you will get educated it is not about the equipment.

  • @95tahoe1 Maybe you can say that the skill is about getting rifles and ammunition that can shoot this accurat.

  • @95tahoe1 It is how to calculate the wind, and know when to pull the trigger! And lots a lots a other stuff that im not going to write down here. Try to find out some stuff about it before posting stupid youtube comments!

  • @Hellsslave666 look i shoot long range. i dont use a bench. i shoot something as small as a 17hmr to a 308. I refuse to use a bench to make my shots. because its not what i think as shooting. The way i do it is closer to what is done during hunting., or sniper shooting. reading conditions, getting control of your breathing and heart rate plus control of your equipment is the real test of shooting. To me tis is not what makes a good one chance shot. My comments are not stupid just real world

  • What kind of gun was at 55 second mark. It was beautiful!

  • It is a Heavy Bench Class Custom Rifle made by BRS Custom Rifles and set a world record in 1988 at 200 yards 10 shots in 0,275 inch group. At the IBS Nationals in Ohio. Hart Barrel cal. 6 mm BRS own design. Lee Six stock Accuryced Universal Action and sleeved.

  • lol so german

  • Those guns are weird-looking :s Shiny as hell though.

This whole concept is weird, it has no purpose :c

  • Their purpose is benchrest shoot, dipshit.

  • Yeah, guess so xD Didn't know of it before though. It's kind of takes awat the purpose of having a "gun" altogether. Why not just a barrel and a box with a mechanism?

    Anyways, thanks for replying, dipshit.

  • im with you an that , is very gay .

  • beautiful guns

  • its almost a shame to shoot them

  • wtf :S

  • looks like a 22-250 to me, but no offence but it aint hard 2 get a perfect shot when your rifle is pritty much bolted into possistion...

  • No such thing as a perfect shot...

Benchrest shooters strive to improve by thousands of an inch by tweaking their meticulously crafted handloads.

And reading the wind at thousand yard distances is a real art.

  • it's not bolted into position it's sitting on a tripod wheich has a sand bag ontop of it he was adjusting the tripod

  • It is a beautifull rifle and wonderfull scope, very nice video, pls can you tell me what caliber it is and also the distance that you are shooting.

    Congratulations!!

  • It is a Heavy Bench Class Rifle (black), and Heavy Varmint class rifle (Red)

Caliber 6 mm PPC (Red) 7 MM Rem Mag (Black). Hart Barrel on both rifles.

Distance of HV rifle is 100 Meters.

The Black HB class is for 1000 yds shooting.

  • Love bench rest shooting. I enjoy it more that hunting. Lots of pride in setting up rifle and ammunition and see results of lots of hard work. You can get a new Savage bench gun for $1200US, and a Weaver 36x scope for $400US. That will get you started. Going all custom is $4-6kUS +.

However, picking up a nice Remington with bull barrel in 308Win can make for some nice tight groups at 100yards and cost 800$US with a nice Burris scope for $200US.

  • Thank you for your comment !

  • ontinued x2

Think of it this way. Benchresting is to classic shooting, what rally racing is to nitro funny cars. It`s still a sport....just different. It`s a wealthy persons sport though, and almost completely dominated by very, very old men.

  • Thank you for your comment !

  • The benchrest shooters most difficult task on the range is to read the wind. Benchrest shooters are rifle builders, cartridge designers and gunsmiths. They build very, very cool rifles, and push the limit of what firearms can do. Benchresters have discovered and developed the technologies that make all rifles built today more accurate. Well.... actually, the state of the art for the benchresters in the 50`s and 60`s has tricked down to consumers today.... and today`s advances.... well...you know

  • You are RIGHT !

Thank you for your comment !

  • Benchrest is an unlimited sport, like everything else that seems easy, it`s not. Benrest shooters don`t shoot, so much as drive their rifles. They aren`t competing against each other traditionally, (stance, posture, trigger pull), but it is still a very difficult competition.

  • Thank you for your comment !

  • is he aiming at all? Or is the weapon just on a stand?

  • Sure he is aiming, how can he hit else.

  • It looks like they are just adjusting the weapon stand, and then shoot. Is that a sport?

  • Try it ???????

  • at this point shooting isn't even a sport i mean winning a trophy for that is just kind of stupid

  • Love the video, wish this guy spoke english !!

Wondering what kind of scope he is using on that beautiful rifle. Looks like a weaver !!Love this guys technique of looking away before touching that 1/2 ounce trigger lol.

  • It is Leupold 36X Silver

  • youre taking all the fun out of shooting :D

  • she needs to take that ring off before she scratches that gun!

  • This is bullshit yuppi shooting.

  • nice video...however for safety i think the woman needs safety glasses...you just never know when a split or ruptured case can happen or a pierced primer.

  • Very true.

This shooting was done in a very secure condition, with a top precision rifle and known handloaded ammunition, loaded with custom loading equipment, made for this rifle.

But safety must be no. 1.

  • why do they lift there head then fire?

  • That is done to observe the WIND FLAGS!

Wind is one of the strongest points in affecting the bullet on it's way out there.

Wind evaluation is very important in all rifle shooting, specially in precision group shooting competition.

  • Great video on BR shooting. I had to sell my light varmint rifle and most of my BR equipment a couple years ago and I really miss shooting, especially the matches. No rifle in the world comes close to the precision and quality of a well built benchrest rifle. As for larshenrik's question, the cost of a decent BR rifle ranges from about $1500 for a used one to over $3000 (brand new) depending on components and gunsmith etc... However, one can be built for around $2000 by doing the work yourself.

  • Yeah, though, here in Norway everything is much more than it is in the states. Sucks

  • You're the one in the vid, right?

Just for interest: How much is a complete custom rifle like one of those seen in the movie?

  • luvin those guns,bloody expensive i bet

  • Yes they are worth it.

  • Hey what action is that used in both those LV guns ?

  • Hello. Both actions are BRS Custom Rifles.

The black (LV)is a aluminium with SS steel sleeves. The action on red Hv rifle is

    BRS Stainless Steel.Very Accurate Actions!

  • the woman seems to be shooting .223 WSM. but what is the guy shooting, it's not as loud as the other one, maybe .22?

  • Both are 6 PPC

  • Did I just saw that guy passing the copper brush back and fort?!?!? I read and heard that damages the internal barrel, always clean in one direction (to the muzzle), not back and fort

  • This is the cleaning method used by thousands of bench rest shooters ! Notice the brush goes clear out of barrel in each passing, before brushing opposite direction.

Brushing direction should never be reversed inside the bore.

  • not in english!

  • 1) What was the distance for this shoot?

    2) What is name/model of this rifle?
