Thanks, you know it's those little things you learn when watching a video thats makes it all worth while I have an over abundance of tomatoes in my garden this year and some freezer space that will now be filled.,Thank you!
hmmm soy sauce in a chicken soup.. that's interesting!
My son is having a cold with fever. I'm going to cook this one for sure. And I'm not afraid that I don't have all the ingredients... I have only salt, pepper, lots of onion, soysauce, tomato, carrot, and chicken!

Thanks again Craig... I'll definately need to try the frozen tomato... Here in Scotland I always add a small tin of concentrated tomato soup... Thanks again man...
I love the simplicity and naturalness of your videos. Especially the fact that these are healthy food options and the ingredients are things you can find around the house. A lot of recipes call for exact foods/measurements and most people don't have the time or money to buy them. I will have to try this during the coming months. Thanks!
Time has been kind to ya Craig...you still look suave and debonaire' as you did last year ...hahaha Sure will be looking for this recipe come this Fall i'm sure...Cheers bud!
Question: Instead of using your co2 tank to pressurize the keg when cleaning - can you use an air compressor with the attachments to clean out the lines etc?
I would assume you can air instead of co2 - as long as you can push out the cleaner through the lines right?
I made this today in just under 2 hours. We are putting of the shopping trip and there was almost nothing, but I got credited with making one of the better soups we've had before.
I've never made it without the fake stock before and this was much better, however I did break down and add some marmite to it. Although not much.
awesome video mate! i really like how you explain the reasons for doin things, i've been using those stock cubes for years! my mum always used them she probably didn't realise either how bad they are for you either i'm definitly goin to try this recipe out asap!
Just got done eating my soup that I made based on yours, and it was excellent!!! We want more cooking videos!!! Do you know how to do a pizza with making your own dough and all that? That would be cool...
I was inspired to make this today. I only had frozen boneless skinless breasts. I basically made the stock the way you did with the chicken I had it still turned out wonderful. Thanks for the inspiration!
Craig the Frozen vegies in reference to there nutritional value are fine. In fact these days they are all snap frozen and are quite fresh. In fact vegetables with vitamin C have more available for the body to absorb when they are frozen before cooked. Vitamin C is important to top up when you're feeling "fluey" so in a way you're right, frozen vegies would be better for a "sick poor man's soup". :-)
Hey thanks for the comments. Great to hear you're enjoying the vids. Barley cooks down and expands like pasta. It can boil away if you cook it too long. It's basally what I use to judge the timing of the soup and when to put the other ingredients in. When the barley is still a bit stiff, that's when I add the veggies. Chicken goes in last, since it's already been boiled for a long time. If you have green union, sprinkle it on top of your bowl of soup. Enjoy.
Oh, yes, barley is delicious, you eat it. By the way, it's available in all gorcery stores and there's a few different kinds. They all have directions as to how long to cook them.
Idd, Craig was one of them people that encouraged me to do some homebrew Beer. Which my friends say taste great.
Anyone that encourages making of your own food is tops imo. There are too many folk just buying premade junk and missing out on tasty stuff they can make themselves.
It's actually Wuss-tah-shr there is no R sound at the beginning and it ends in a short r, not "sheer" or "shire" (even though it is spelled shire, lol).
But it's generally just called Worcester (Wuss-tah sauce) over here. In Sheffield where I live, they have Hendersons Relish which is a less known but similar condiment developed in the 1800's. Defo recommend to anyone who likes Worcester sauce :).
Not to argue but Wuss-tah-shr would be the quick and easy way of saying the literal pronunciation. I pronounce it that way also because I'm British, but Americans (and Canadians of course) can't pronounce anything British for the life of them! As long as it's Worce instead of Wor-chester, and shr or sheer instead of shyre, it's all good.
Thats fine ;-). I always find the pronounciations fascinating and funny if they're exaggerated. I always used to pronounce Worcester wrong as a kid. So I naturally can understand why so many people get it wrong :).
I try to keep a simple mirepoix handy, making a large batch and freezing some for when I need it. I never seem to have enough though. A handy broth base for quick soups/ sauces in a pinch. Nice recipe, cheers! KtC

Hello Craig, Would Canned Plum tomatoes do? instead of the frozen Peeled Tomato?
stardog1982 1 year ago
@stardog1982 Sure, but puree them, and I wouldn't add the whole can unless you want the soup to be red, which is fine if that's ok with you.

Use a bit of butter and a bit of oil. Butter flavours the oil and the oil keeps the butter from burning.

Does barley accumulate at the bottom of the finished product or does it boil away.
Also can you get barley at the local grocery store?
