They also were told by the record company to use more outside songwriters like Diane Warren, who wrote When I See you Smile, their biggest hit. the guys did not want to do that. And of course the biggest downfall was the advent of Nirvana and grunge music which killed many a career of the melodic rockers like Loverboy, Bad English, REO, and many others.
I don't want to sound like an old, jaded jackass but...are there any bands with this kind of talent these days? I hear so many of these fabricated ,super model bands live, and they suck.
This was one of the most amazing bands and I would give anything for a reunion. Never has a group but out two albums where practically every song is awesome, rocking and could be a number 1 hit. I would love the DVD or even VHS of Backlash but there isn't one. They were taping video's separately at that time just to finish the contract deal and the album. Such a shame, beautiful magic is what they had. John Waite still does. I'm so glad he is still putting out music.
@jedsebastian I really don't think so. This band was really just a side project and was played mostly on adult contemporary radio stations. I believe they broke up before the record companies turned on the commercial rock bands. Thus, the start of the destruction of the record industry.
Nah, they broke up because they couldn't stand each other. Well documented in interviews with Schon, Waite & Phillips. Schon & Phillips wanted to rock out more, Waite is strong-willed in his own direction and didn't want to do arena rock, which he felt was 'been there, done that' by bands like Journey. They worked & toured 2 years straight, then were forced back into he studio immediately when they were burned out. Phillips phrased it as, "too many cooks in the kitchen"
For all of you who are wondering where they are now. Here's the scoop. The keyboardist Jonathan Cain, and the guitarist Neal Schon are still in JOURNEY. The drummer Dean Castronovo is also in JOURNEY & has been for quite a few years now. Dean replaced Journey's drummer Steve Smith, after he left when Journey's vocalist Steve Perry left. Bassist Ricky Phillips, the last I heard was invoved several projects. Last but not least Bad English's lead vocalist John Waite, is once again a solo artist.
@krassip61 John Waite is doing some solo stuff, touring and what not, while the guitar player and keyboardist are back with Journey. I saw them last summer and they were great, but i prefer those two in Bad English. I don't know the drummer and bassist's where abouts, but perhaps I should check it out?
I love this! I don't remember this performance. I love John Waite. Wish we could have heard more from Bad English. They had a successful but short-lived run, unfortunately.
i saw them three times in one day .....the outdoor show was free, thanks to pirate radio........i was right up front....he sang jj flash.....stuck the mike in my face, and i rock my best ....is a gas gas gas......the crowd go wild...........one of my best days.....
I wish Bad English could have made more records, but Neal Schon, Ross Vallory, and Johnathan Cain, rejoined with Steve Perry in 1996 to reunite Journey, so I guess I can't complain...
This was my favorite of the 'glam metal' bands. Wish they were still around.

what's up with his voice, he couldn't reach the notes right......maybe he had the flu.
damn neal schon distortion in this live performance is heavy, almost metal core like....not his usual mid-ranged tube screamer tone.

Steve Perry was not in this band. From the old Journey... Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain. And the new... Deen Castronovo.
