car2cars, the R8 that caught on fire was a test mule using another, twin turbocharged engine. Audi decided against it and decided to use this 5.0 liter V10 instead of the 5.2 that overheated and burned.

@sleeevy yes and no mate they tested the 5.2 with twin turbo charges but it couldnt cool well enough in a mid engined layout so they did the basic 5.2 FSI hence why its a audi R8 V10 5.2 FSI :) also they took off 35 horses of power to make it more civilised in everyday life unlike its sister the gallardo

Audi needs to step up there production cars. for $200,000 dollars I expect more. The R8 v10 will never touch the ZR1 or the Viper ACR on the Nurbergring. In fact the A6r could ot keep up with the rear wheel drive caddy CTS-V on the track. Buy a caddy or a vette if you want a WINNER!

whens the gt1 coming out? cant wait to see what the most sucseeful racing company ever made can do! the acr could do under 7:20, prob the quickest car in the current ring wars, over the lp560-4, r8 v10, lf-a, and v spec until the gt1 takes a lap. the only problem is that it will cost A LOT, as much as i love german cars, porsche, and mercedes, i could probably get an acr, zr1, lp560-4, r8 v10, lf-a, and maybe even an s550 and carrera 2s for the veyron beater.

Porsche said arround the year of 2009, not sure yet but they assured us that there will be a GT1 and will use a turbocharged V10 or a twin turbo V8(the V8 from the cayenne s) and will have awd to put down all the power which will be arround 950hp.

Rumors says it is the same engine that RS6 got in the R8 (V10 twin turbo) but I don´t know for sure beacuse they had problems with cooling down the engine.. but I hope it will be more then 520hp at least LP560 engine from lambo... or hopefully over 600hp.

it has to beat the zr1, but i heard its using a slightly lowere powered and higher torque version of the gallardo engine, that might not be enough with the huge 23% power loss quattro system.

yeah, it probably is, audi and lambo share their engines (V10) so the v10 in the S6 IS the engine from a gallardo, so yes, you are probably roght

Make no mistake - it's Lambo that benefits from Audi's engineers. The engines share the same general concepts - but they are not the same. The V10 that debuted in the Gallardo was based on the 4.2L V8 from Audi. The Lambo designers made it into an all out fire breather and concentrated on top end horsepower. Audi made it a 5.2 to squeeze out more torque.

It's the Italian engineers that make that engine "sing".

Hondacar - Audi's engines are based on their racing experience - not on Lamborghini's expertise. If Audi didn't buy them - Lambo wouldn't be where they are. In fact there would be no Gallardo without Audi. Even down to the way the factories are run has been implemented by Audi. Lambo just tweaks to fit the Italian persona.
