i have one too, i think mine moves but it just cuckoos, no claping sound, it also belonged to my grandmother and i would always ask if they could start it up, and they past it down the family. it might have done the claping sound but it is very old and i dont know if it does that
I noticed the bird doesn't move when it cuckoos - mine used to.
I have an old Japanese Mi-Ken Cuckoo made around 1955 or so and it is in need of repair.
I want to put a new movement in it but I need to find a replacement for the Japanese one. (wish me luck)
Mine hung in my grandmother's house for years and years after my father brought it back from the Orient. I used to be fascinated with it and now I own it.
because you say you have extra weights on the existing weights is a definite indication that it needs servicing. You may need a bushing or two. At least a good oiling.
