Christmas is a Pagan Holiday that the Christians stole, now the general populous has taken it and made it worthwhile by making it about being with your family and loved ones, forget about the Myth of Jesus, unless you also believe i can fly, and just be with you family and be happy this Christmas, cause thats what it really is about
Its not about the right to exchange gifts, anyone can do that by why do they do it. It is not about being inclusive, it is about the birth of our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. There are other holidays around the same time as Christmas and those practicing those religions probably prefer their holidays by there correct name; good for them. If you are not a Christen why would you want to give gifts on Christmas, that reeks of sarcasm. Leave me to practice my faith in peace.
@cmurray4492 I give gifts because I like to give gifts; my faith (or lack thereof) has nothing to do with it. Christmas is a major gift-giving holiday, ergo, I give gifts on Christmas. And I think you meant 'hypocrisy', not 'sarcasm', but either way, gift-giving on Christmas if you aren't a Christian isn't being a hypocrite unless that's what the holiday is actually about, according to your faith. It's called CHRISTmas...to celebrate Jesus Christ's birth. Just because some people don't believe in Christ, doesn't mean Christmas should be taken away from those who do. If you don't want to celebrate Christmas and want to say Happy Holidays, then I hope you aren't exchanging gifts either...because CHRISTIANS exchange gifts in recognition of how the 3 wise men brought gifts to baby Jesus. Also, if you're American, OUR nation was built on religion...In God we Trust!
@jlv006 Wow, so people who don't believe in Jesus aren't allowed to exchange gifts? Those bastard Jews and their Hanukkah are taking away the true, sacred meaning of your holiday! /sarcasm
@coryconley1 Because we need to show other people what and who we believe in if we say "Happy Holidays" they will think we will are just some random passer-by. But if we say "Merry Christmas" then people will know we believe or at least WANT to tell the truth.
If you want to go to the original name, go with Yule or Yuletide, or Winter Solstice, which christians stole from pagans. Think about it, what does the tree decoration have to do with your religion, it's a pagan ritual.
@olegkikin Celebrating the day of someone's birth is also a pagan ritual--that's why people who are Greek Orthodox DON'T celebrate their birthdays (they hold big celebrations on the day of the saint they were named after, and they give gifts to all of the GUESTS, to show the benevolent nature of the saint is being carried on in those named after them).
Why can't we all just get along and celebrate the birth of our savior who was born over 2000 years ago..? Anyways, the 5th grade did something with this for their part in the Christmas play at our school.
WOW! I've just read a few of the comments below and I'm blown away by the ignorance of some people. One person talking about the "murder rate" in this country~~that's about Christmas, why? And, buy a gift for someone overseas? We give most of our tax money to all the other countries that hate our guts, so buying them presents makes sense~~why? Hey, lighten up people! AND HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS. If you want to make a comment, why not stay on point?
OMG, this video is religious and the comments are so strong and arguing about religion...unless I've missed something. Why can't we all just enjoy Christmas and the spirit of the season of love, friendship, giving and receiving, and celebrating...whether it is the birth of Christ or all of those things? I say Lighten Up, People. Go buy a gift for someone poor overseas and see if that doesn't make your heart swell with happiness. And let's consider sharing in traditions other than our own.
Just because a majority of Christians were in power during the founding of our country does not mean this country was "founded on Christianity. As a Catholic I say Merry Christmas, but I am not going to force that on my Jewish, Hindu, Muslim or Buddist friends. How would you feel if they forced you to celebrate their religious traditions? Freedom of religion means you can have your faith & traditions and I can have mine. Why would you want to change that?
@biapayne I'm pretty sure we're not forcing anything. Think of it this way. If you go to another country where most people are a different religion, and you lived there, would you appreciate if people that didnt believe in that came and forced you to take down their holiday's decorations just because it offended them?
@TECfan1 No one is forcing private individuals to take down their decorations...except for the ones who cause traffic and noise problems in their neighborhoods. If private businesses (i.e. Macy's) choose to say "Happy Holidays" it is a PR/Marketing decision to maximize sales. They don't do 'politically correct' if its not profitable. But how is it right for our government offices to favor one religious holiday over another? They either acknowledge ALL of them, or none of them.
and America's murder rate is high because the world has become more corrupt. satan tempts people to do ANYTHING that goes against God and this country is (as i have said before) was and is still founded under God, so we are an even bigger target because we have (most of us/the country) surrended and put our trust in God. btw- i am a Christian and i dont really care what u or anyone thinks. i <3 Jesus
@tmrsmile19 I'm pretty sure America's murder rate is so high because we have a lot of people, and we make it legal to own weapons. Much more secular nations than ours (Sweden, Japan, etc.) have much lower murder rates. They also take better care of their poor, so people are less inclined to commit crimes (including violent ones).
and at the end of the oath when the new presidents are sworn in, they say "", which was not written in the Constitution. it was added originally by George Washington because he knew he couldn't lead this country without the help of God.
this country (united states of America) was founded under God and Christianity. the people who came over to this "new world" wanted to be able to have a bible and worship God without braking the law. Our country was founded under God, hence "..one nation, under God..." in the pledge and if you dont like that, thats too bad. because we are about God/Jesus.
@tmrsmile19 There are so many factual errors in this comment that I can't even begin to treat all of them on YouTube. But apparently, you believe America was founded either by Japanese immigrants from Tokugawa Japan or something (or some other time and place where Christianity was outlawed--protip: Christianity was not outlawed in England), who time-warped to 1954, at which point they founded America and wrote the Pledge of Allegiance.
@tmrsmile19 The Pilgrims came over to America because they wanted to be NOT Anglicans, not because they weren't able to own Bibles--Protestants use the same Bible as any other denomination, so that wasn't the problem. The problem was they didn't want a Pope, and they certainly didn't want the King to be their Pope. England had a state religion. The Pilgrims disagreed with it, so they moved out.
But that's not the 'founding of the country', that's 'the colonization of the New world'.
@tmrsmile19 The founding of the country didn't actually happen until, well, the Declaration of Independence. Before that, it wasn't a country, it was a British colony. By the time the country was founded, the educated elite were Deists, and there were no "Christians"--there were Methodists and Baptists and Presbyterians, but no united label of 'Christian'. You could go down the road and be chased out because you were a Quaker and they were Anglican, so you were a heretic.
@tmrsmile19 "One nation under God" was added to the Pledge of Allegiance in 1954, and 'In God We Trust' was added to our paper money in 1957. Heck, the pledge wasn't even officially recognized until 1942. Every time a religious phrase was added to American symbols, it was during a time of war and ideological conflict, with the rash of God messages in the 50's being the result of the Red Scare. So no, it wasn't because we were 'founded on Christianity', it's because we were fighting the Commies.
@MzMcCracken393 Right now there is a "Christmas" tree in my state capitol, a very expensive one that my tax dollars paid for. Why does my governor and so many other Christians feel the urge to shove their religion in face, and make me pay for the privilege of being excluded It's easy not to care when its your religion that's being coddled, but what if the govt paid a million bucks for a Muslim minaret during Ramadan?
@spartan2600 I'm sorry, but Christmas trees have no relation to Christian beliefs, so you are comparing apples to oranges. If they set up a million dollar cross you might have a case. But even still, it is a priviledge to live where you do, so if you disagree so much then leave, because pushing "Christian values" encourages compassion and love, and discourages crime, so if you have a huge problem with that then you're probably in the wrong country.
@musicisasuperpower A Christmas tree signifies the exclusively Christian holiday of Christmas, therefore the govt. putting up a Christmas tree violate the second amendment of the Constitution. This isn't your country, its all of ours, and can't have govt picking sides on the issue of religion. I'm not leaving the country because you don't like what I believe.
@musicisasuperpower Also, if Christianity makes people more moral, and the US is the most religious of all developed nations, why does the US have a 500% higher murder rate than relatively non-religious West Europe and 790% higher murder rate than Japan? Also, the US has a 18,000% higher rate of robbery than Buddhist/Shamanist Japan.
@11Cloverchick That's something I can agree with. These guys are pretty good musicians, they've got really tight harmonies and great rhythm--I just don't like the message.
No one said all atheist are offended maybe ya'll should get over yourselves a little too. Also if you noticed I don't agree with religion (mans way to God) the fact is Christmas was created to celebrate Christ not for any of the others reasons and its OK with me and most other true Christians if you want to celebrate a holiday. The issue when is when its being compromised to mean something else, to purposely dilute the meaning is the issue certainly you understand this is happening.
@ProGreenTM To say that someone is 'purposefully diluting the meaning of Christmas' seems a bit of a stretch. That implies an orchestrated effort across DECADES to eventually turn Christmas into a commercialized event for the sole purpose of turning people away from Christianity. That's a conspiracy theory that only Jack Chick would dream up.
The holidays that have REALLY had the meaning drained out of them are days like Memorial Day and Labor Day, which are basically just sale markers now.
I must ask Christians to please get over themselves. Atheists are not universally offended at the idea of Christmas. I'm not. Religious holidays don't offend me--I LIKE celebrating things and having parties. Jesus doesn't offend me--the way religion conditions people to act does.
Christmas brings out the good in people, but then we gets songs like these, which cultivate that 'us VS them' mentality which results in suicide bombings in other parts of the world. Terrible.
@sadakokimono Jesus is the Reason for the season. Merry Christmas, and God Bless You! :-) May the warmth and love of the baby Jesus be with you all year.
Also to heretic hunters (those that spend their life so busy looking at the speck in my eye they can't see the log in their own) do you not know when you place the ark of the covenant along side the idols the idols just melt down to waste product.
Show a little faith in the Cross not your incessant need to point out everybody's faults or ignorance its called grace for a reason..
Turn it around stop attacking and make a difference for him instead you really stand in the way to Him.
If you want to celebrate your winter solstice or happy holidays go ahead. But it really does not matter the fact is Christmas itself is about Christ hence the name duh. I don't care who had what on that day before we started celebrating the King of Kings everything else pales in comparison.
Also to all the heretic hunters so quick to judge us for celebrating our Lords birth get over it
True LOVERS of Christ Jesus know he is the center of Christmas and you show little LOVE for anyone or Christ.
@ProGreenTM "everything else pales in comparison" What about God's commands in the Bible to behave humbly? I don't hate Christmas, I don't like when people try to shove Christmas in my face, make me pay for their Christmas trees via taxes, or misunderstand the almost entirely non-religious origins of what we call "Christmas" in the year 2011.
thumbs up if you believe the message behind this song!!! let's remember the reason for the season and say "MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!" to everyone we meet!!
and a cool fact is that people try to replace Christ with "x" and just call it X-Mas like they are crossing him out of the meaning, but in Greek, the letter "X" actually means Christ! so people just can't take him out of Christmas no matter how hard they try!! =D I finish by saying Merry Christmas! and don't be afraid to show that you believe!!
@Tiger32697 Really, the only time I see 'Xmas' is to save space--I passed an 'XMASU KAADO' display in a 100-Yen Store today, and they only went with 'X' because it would make the sign 2x3. And considering Japanese don't really care about Christianity (something like 1% of Japan is Christian), it's certainly not about 'taking out Christ'.
The only other time I see it come up is when I see Christians complaining about 'Xmas', not realizing the history of 'X/chi' in their own religion.
@sadakokimono from what I see, in the last six comments ALL made by you. You are just trying to act smart and tell other people they are wrong. so just bug-off
All the other traditions, giving gifts to family, Santa Claus, tinsel, etc. were all started by non-Christian pagans. So really, pagans are the reason for the season. Jesus just hijacked it.
@spartan2600 - actually, the three wise men bringing gifts to baby Jesus is where the entire gift giving tradition @ Christmas began- so pagans are not the reason for the gift giving.Jesus did NOT "hijack" anything! Also, Santa Claus is the same as SAINT Nicolaus. Get your fact straight!!!
@blueskies4evermore Realize that Jesus was probably born in the summer, not the middle of the winter. The fact that three wise men brought gifts is irrelevant, there are many other stories in the Bible when people have gifts, and there's lots of other events and activities that happened during the birth of Jesus that aren't a part of the Xmas tradition. The reason we exchange gifts is that the original pagan holiday celebrated near the middle of winter, winter solstice had people give gifts.
@blueskies4evermore Also, Santa Claus as you know him, the bearded guy in the red suit was largely invented by cartoonist Thomas Nast and songwriters John Frederick Coots and Haven Gillespie. The only thing in which Santa Claus resembles Saint Nicholas is that they both gave presents, but St. Nick hardly invented the concept. Everything unique about Santa Claus, everything besides the fact that he gives presents, was invented by people for non-religious reasons.
@blueskies4evermore The Christian Saint Nicholas was not from the North Pole, he did not wear a red coat with belt-buckle shoes, he never rode a sleigh, or knew such a thing as reindeer existed, didn't give gifts to every good boy and girl and didn't know what elves were. Saint Nicholas was not Santa Claus.
Atheists didn't commercialize Christmas- people on Madison Avenue (the advertising industry) did, which included Christians and people of all creeds.
@blueskies4evermore You can think and do what you like about your Christmas, but realize that it was mostly invented by pagans, and co-opted by the Catholic Church in order to undermine pagan practices. Also, I don't want my tax dollars going to anything Christmas, as that explicitely endorses religion, a violation of the first amendment. Having the government recognize Christmas also excludes me, and our Jewish and Muslim and Buddhist etc. brothers and sisters.
@spartan2600 We all know all these things and its nice you know so much about something that you seem to loath how weird is that?
Actually I don't care what the government recognizes, for way to long Christians have focused on what unbelievers and the government thought its time we started doing what we were called for and just maybe you and others like you could see what this is really all about.
There is a great awakening coming I believe by faith the US Christians choose to be part of it.
Besides all that, every tradition related to Christmas in America wasn't started by Christians. Jesus never drank eggnog. Every single tradition originates with pagans. The reason Christmas falls near the middle of winter is because the pagans used to celebrate winter solstice by cutting coniferous trees, the only thing that stays green in the winter, down and putting it in their home to usher on summer. The Catholic church decided to hijack the originally pagan holiday.
Christians need to understand how obnoxious, self-righteous, traditionalist and arrogant the message of this song it. The subtext of this seems to be "Jews, Muslims and Atheists scare me, I just want to pretend they don't exist and act like its 1950." The reality is that even for Christians, Christmas isn't about Jesus. You can say it is, but the reason everyone gets together with family is because everyone has off of work and school that week for historical reasons.
@spartan2600 Some people just can't love and give! True, atheists turned this entire Christmas celebration into a warped and demented orgy of commercialism - but it doesn't have to be! A true christian embraces Jews, muslims and Atheisists . We would just like to keep the Christ in Christmas. Its that simple.
All of that is great. But this song stating it is all about Jesus is just wrong. If you choose to celebrate the birth on the 25th, that is fine, but if others don't then stating Happy Holidays is just fine. We are all free to celebrate however we wish just like this band is free to sing songs they like. However, I do agree that it is the heart that counts, whether it is Christmas or not. So Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Kwanzaa, and Happy New Year!
@natesuetaylor, I think they are just pointing out the underlying cause of christmas... you know Christ, CHRISTmas... and where did they state "it's ALL about Christ"? they didn't, they did say "it's about the birth of Christ" but not "ALL about"... so I think you need to loosen up a bit and let people live...
@greengringo2003 True--it was originally conceived as an alternative to Christmas, since white Christians had used the Bible to condone slavery for so long. Kwanzaa has since lightened up and become less 'Black Nationalism' and more of a neutral celebration of African-American culture.
Actually, Christmas has NOTHING to do with the birth of Jesus, which by the way is on or around the 25th. There is strong evidence that the 25th isn't the actual day. Christmas was established well before the birth of Jesus by the Romans and is considered a Pagan holiday. This song is just nonsense
@natesuetaylor, I'm sorry... that does not fly with me! I don't care what day I celebrate it on... I'm GOING to celebrate Jesus' birthday... I just celebrate it the way I was rased!
//Christmas was established well before the birth of Jesus by the Romans and is considered a Pagan holiday.//
have you thought of the actual name "Chistmas" and thought of where it came from? no, actually it was not called Christmas before Christ... it was called " the winter solstice"...... (cont')
@DrummermanForGod I respect that you want to celebrate the birth of Jesus. I would like to know exactly what day you think that is.It isn't the 25th. I know exactly where the word Christmas came from. It was a power play by the Roman Catholic church, well known for their strong arm tactics, to incorporate pagan celebrations into the church so they could increase their control and power over the populace. It had nothing to do with Christ and everything to do with power and control.
@natesuetaylor, sorry, I didn't think my last post actually went through... so... (cont') I do not celebrate the winter solstice, or santa clause, or anything else on the 25th of dec... I celebrate Jesus birthday, that is ALL! just as the song says "it's about the birth of Christ and you can't take that away!" it may have been merged with the winter solstice by the catholic church (which I do not endorse), but to ME it is the celebration of Jesus birthday!
@natesuetaylor now that I have that out of the way I will answer your question. I know the catholic church put it together, but I look at the heart rather than works, dates, or anything else... if you are truly serving God in spirit and TRUTH then you are going in the right direction! and I know it was not on the 25th of Dec. and I don't know when it was... but that is when I choose to worship my Lords birth, coming to die, and paying our sin debt!
LOVE this song! :D Never heard it before, but decided to look it up when I found a Christmas movie based on this song. Awesome song, thank you for sharing! :)
I celebrate Christmas. But I don't think there's anything wrong with using Happy Holidays. People -- Move on -- God has more important things to deal with. God Bless and Judge lest thy be judged.
@Jesusandpandafreak Actually, if you wanna play the "Xmas" card, if you look up the greek word for Christ, you will find the word Χριστός, the first letter being the greek letter X or Chi. The abbreviation Xmas is based off of the greek word for Christ, therefore you aren't necessarily taking the "christ" out of "christmas" It's simply a shorter way to type a long word. God Bless. :)
@Jesusandpandafreak The letter chi ("X") was used by monks in writing, as a shorthand for "Christ," or "Χριστός" as it is spelled in Greek. You can also check out the Wikipedia reference for "Xmas." Please pass it on.
The holiday season includes Christmas and New Year's, as well as holy days from other religions. Saying "Merry Christmas" doesn't work if you want to express season's greetings beyond a single holiday from a single religion.
I LOVE IT! and the comment; After 2000 years, He's STILL intimidating people is AWESOME! Thanks for taking the time to write and produce it! I'm a BMI Music Publisher and a Christian ~ really appreciate your work! Jimmy Mac with Lorimac Productions in Las Vegas!
haha i like this song!! we sang (shouted!) this song during science class (i go to a private Catholic school) and we shouted it soooo loud all you could hear was us! i came home and listened to it so i could hear the tune cuz it was imposible with us singing/shouting!! God Bless!
Re: the few "dislikes": I've been looking at a variety of songs for a while (many excellent) and have observed an interesting trend/pattern, which is that the best ALL (and so far it IS all) have about 5 dislikes; some a few less (like this). There are also either no negative (or only obviously specious) comments. A small group of pathetic, embittered souls (Scrooges/Grinches) are on a campaign to negate anything that might seem unanimously popular. Pray for them.
Christmas is great. It's a great time of year which brings people together in celebration of life, love and friendship. The history behind it is different than the story most people have been told. Christ wasn't born during this time of year and Christmas didn't start until long after Christ had already died. Call it what you like, whether happy holidays or christmas it makes no difference. It's about the spirit of the season not the title we've given it.

It's OK to say happy holidays. if broken down into the original meaning it was happy "holy" day.
this has been modified over centuries to where the original context has been taken away.
so Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Great song...stand for something

and America's murder rate is high because the world has become more corrupt. satan tempts people to do ANYTHING that goes against God and this country is (as i have said before) was and is still founded under God, so we are an even bigger target because we have (most of us/the country) surrended and put our trust in God. btw- i am a Christian and i dont really care what u or anyone thinks. i <3 Jesus
tmrsmile19 2 months ago
@tmrsmile19 I'm pretty sure America's murder rate is so high because we have a lot of people, and we make it legal to own weapons. Much more secular nations than ours (Sweden, Japan, etc.) have much lower murder rates. They also take better care of their poor, so people are less inclined to commit crimes (including violent ones).

and at the end of the oath when the new presidents are sworn in, they say "", which was not written in the Constitution. it was added originally by George Washington because he knew he couldn't lead this country without the help of God.
tmrsmile19 2 months ago
@ spartan2600
this country (united states of America) was founded under God and Christianity. the people who came over to this "new world" wanted to be able to have a bible and worship God without braking the law. Our country was founded under God, hence "..one nation, under God..." in the pledge and if you dont like that, thats too bad. because we are about God/Jesus.
tmrsmile19 2 months ago
@tmrsmile19 There are so many factual errors in this comment that I can't even begin to treat all of them on YouTube. But apparently, you believe America was founded either by Japanese immigrants from Tokugawa Japan or something (or some other time and place where Christianity was outlawed--protip: Christianity was not outlawed in England), who time-warped to 1954, at which point they founded America and wrote the Pledge of Allegiance.
sadakokimono 2 months ago
@tmrsmile19 The Pilgrims came over to America because they wanted to be NOT Anglicans, not because they weren't able to own Bibles--Protestants use the same Bible as any other denomination, so that wasn't the problem. The problem was they didn't want a Pope, and they certainly didn't want the King to be their Pope. England had a state religion. The Pilgrims disagreed with it, so they moved out.
But that's not the 'founding of the country', that's 'the colonization of the New world'.
sadakokimono 2 months ago
@tmrsmile19 The founding of the country didn't actually happen until, well, the Declaration of Independence. Before that, it wasn't a country, it was a British colony. By the time the country was founded, the educated elite were Deists, and there were no "Christians"--there were Methodists and Baptists and Presbyterians, but no united label of 'Christian'. You could go down the road and be chased out because you were a Quaker and they were Anglican, so you were a heretic.
sadakokimono 2 months ago

Why does my governor and so many other Christians feel the urge to shove their religion in face, and make me pay for the privilege of being excluded It's easy not to care when its your religion that's being coddled, but what if the govt paid a million bucks for a Muslim minaret during Ramadan?
spartan2600 2 months ago
@spartan2600 I'm sorry, but Christmas trees have no relation to Christian beliefs, so you are comparing apples to oranges. If they set up a million dollar cross you might have a case. But even still, it is a priviledge to live where you do, so if you disagree so much then leave, because pushing "Christian values" encourages compassion and love, and discourages crime, so if you have a huge problem with that then you're probably in the wrong country.
musicisasuperpower 2 months ago
@musicisasuperpower A Christmas tree signifies the exclusively Christian holiday of Christmas, therefore the govt. putting up a Christmas tree violate the second amendment of the Constitution. This isn't your country, its all of ours, and can't have govt picking sides on the issue of religion. I'm not leaving the country because you don't like what I believe.
spartan2600 2 months ago
@musicisasuperpower Also, if Christianity makes people more moral, and the US is the most religious of all developed nations, why does the US have a 500% higher murder rate than relatively non-religious West Europe and 790% higher murder rate than Japan? Also, the US has a 18,000% higher rate of robbery than Buddhist/Shamanist Japan.

ProGreenTM 2 months ago 2

Terrible.

Show a little faith in the Cross not your incessant need to point out everybody's faults or ignorance its called grace for a reason..
Turn it around stop attacking and make a difference for him instead you really stand in the way to Him.
ProGreenTM 2 months ago
If you want to celebrate your winter solstice or happy holidays go ahead. But it really does not matter the fact is Christmas itself is about Christ hence the name duh. I don't care who had what on that day before we started celebrating the King of Kings everything else pales in comparison.
Also to all the heretic hunters so quick to judge us for celebrating our Lords birth get over it
True LOVERS of Christ Jesus know he is the center of Christmas and you show little LOVE for anyone or Christ.
ProGreenTM 2 months ago
@ProGreenTM "everything else pales in comparison" What about God's commands in the Bible to behave humbly? I don't hate Christmas, I don't like when people try to shove Christmas in my face, make me pay for their Christmas trees via taxes, or misunderstand the almost entirely non-religious origins of what we call "Christmas" in the year 2011.
spartan2600 2 months ago

MzMcCracken393 2 months ago
thumbs up if you believe the message behind this song!!! let's remember the reason for the season and say "MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!" to everyone we meet!!
and a cool fact is that people try to replace Christ with "x" and just call it X-Mas like they are crossing him out of the meaning, but in Greek, the letter "X" actually means Christ! so people just can't take him out of Christmas no matter how hard they try!! =D I finish by saying Merry Christmas! and don't be afraid to show that you believe!!
Tiger32697 3 months ago
@Tiger32697 Really, the only time I see 'Xmas' is to save space--I passed an 'XMASU KAADO' display in a 100-Yen Store today, and they only went with 'X' because it would make the sign 2x3. And considering Japanese don't really care about Christianity (something like 1% of Japan is Christian), it's certainly not about 'taking out Christ'.
The only other time I see it come up is when I see Christians complaining about 'Xmas', not realizing the history of 'X/chi' in their own religion.

All the other traditions, giving gifts to family, Santa Claus, tinsel, etc. were all started by non-Christian pagans. So really, pagans are the reason for the season. Jesus just hijacked it.
spartan2600 3 months ago
@spartan2600 - actually, the three wise men bringing gifts to baby Jesus is where the entire gift giving tradition @ Christmas began- so pagans are not the reason for the gift giving.Jesus did NOT "hijack" anything! Also, Santa Claus is the same as SAINT Nicolaus. Get your fact straight!!!
blueskies4evermore 2 months ago
@blueskies4evermore Realize that Jesus was probably born in the summer, not the middle of the winter. The fact that three wise men brought gifts is irrelevant, there are many other stories in the Bible when people have gifts, and there's lots of other events and activities that happened during the birth of Jesus that aren't a part of the Xmas tradition. The reason we exchange gifts is that the original pagan holiday celebrated near the middle of winter, winter solstice had people give gifts.
spartan2600 2 months ago
@blueskies4evermore Also, Santa Claus as you know him, the bearded guy in the red suit was largely invented by cartoonist Thomas Nast and songwriters John Frederick Coots and Haven Gillespie. The only thing in which Santa Claus resembles Saint Nicholas is that they both gave presents, but St. Nick hardly invented the concept. Everything unique about Santa Claus, everything besides the fact that he gives presents, was invented by people for non-religious reasons.
spartan2600 2 months ago
@blueskies4evermore The Christian Saint Nicholas was not from the North Pole, he did not wear a red coat with belt-buckle shoes, he never rode a sleigh, or knew such a thing as reindeer existed, didn't give gifts to every good boy and girl and didn't know what elves were. Saint Nicholas was not Santa Claus.
Atheists didn't commercialize Christmas- people on Madison Avenue (the advertising industry) did, which included Christians and people of all creeds.
spartan2600 2 months ago
@blueskies4evermore You can think and do what you like about your Christmas, but realize that it was mostly invented by pagans, and co-opted by the Catholic Church in order to undermine pagan practices. Also, I don't want my tax dollars going to anything Christmas, as that explicitely endorses religion, a violation of the first amendment. Having the government recognize Christmas also excludes me, and our Jewish and Muslim and Buddhist etc. brothers and sisters.
spartan2600 2 months ago
@spartan2600 We all know all these things and its nice you know so much about something that you seem to loath how weird is that?
Actually I don't care what the government recognizes, for way to long Christians have focused on what unbelievers and the government thought its time we started doing what we were called for and just maybe you and others like you could see what this is really all about.
There is a great awakening coming I believe by faith the US Christians choose to be part of it.
ProGreenTM 2 months ago
Besides all that, every tradition related to Christmas in America wasn't started by Christians. Jesus never drank eggnog. Every single tradition originates with pagans. The reason Christmas falls near the middle of winter is because the pagans used to celebrate winter solstice by cutting coniferous trees, the only thing that stays green in the winter, down and putting it in their home to usher on summer. The Catholic church decided to hijack the originally pagan holiday.
spartan2600 3 months ago
Christians need to understand how obnoxious, self-righteous, traditionalist and arrogant the message of this song it. The subtext of this seems to be "Jews, Muslims and Atheists scare me, I just want to pretend they don't exist and act like its 1950." The reality is that even for Christians, Christmas isn't about Jesus. You can say it is, but the reason everyone gets together with family is because everyone has off of work and school that week for historical reasons.
spartan2600 3 months ago
@spartan2600 Some people just can't love and give! True, atheists turned this entire Christmas celebration into a warped and demented orgy of commercialism - but it doesn't have to be! A true christian embraces Jews, muslims and Atheisists . We would just like to keep the Christ in Christmas. Its that simple.
blueskies4evermore 2 months ago
@blueskies4evermore I don't think atheists had much to do with it--capitalists did, though.

So Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Kwanzaa, and Happy New Year!
natesuetaylor 3 months ago
@natesuetaylor, I think they are just pointing out the underlying cause of christmas... you know Christ, CHRISTmas... and where did they state "it's ALL about Christ"? they didn't, they did say "it's about the birth of Christ" but not "ALL about"... so I think you need to loosen up a bit and let people live...
DrummermanForGod 3 months ago
@natesuetaylor Kwanzaa was invented ca. 1967 by a felony criminal black activist, named Maulana Karenga.
greengringo2003 2 months ago
@greengringo2003 True--it was originally conceived as an alternative to Christmas, since white Christians had used the Bible to condone slavery for so long. Kwanzaa has since lightened up and become less 'Black Nationalism' and more of a neutral celebration of African-American culture.

Actually, Christmas has NOTHING to do with the birth of Jesus, which by the way is on or around the 25th. There is strong evidence that the 25th isn't the actual day. Christmas was established well before the birth of Jesus by the Romans and is considered a Pagan holiday. This song is just nonsense
natesuetaylor 3 months ago
@natesuetaylor, I'm sorry... that does not fly with me! I don't care what day I celebrate it on... I'm GOING to celebrate Jesus' birthday... I just celebrate it the way I was rased!
//Christmas was established well before the birth of Jesus by the Romans and is considered a Pagan holiday.//
have you thought of the actual name "Chistmas" and thought of where it came from? no, actually it was not called Christmas before Christ... it was called " the winter solstice"...... (cont')
DrummermanForGod 3 months ago
@DrummermanForGod I respect that you want to celebrate the birth of Jesus. I would like to know exactly what day you think that is.It isn't the 25th. I know exactly where the word Christmas came from. It was a power play by the Roman Catholic church, well known for their strong arm tactics, to incorporate pagan celebrations into the church so they could increase their control and power over the populace. It had nothing to do with Christ and everything to do with power and control.
natesuetaylor 3 months ago
@natesuetaylor, sorry, I didn't think my last post actually went through... so... (cont') I do not celebrate the winter solstice, or santa clause, or anything else on the 25th of dec... I celebrate Jesus birthday, that is ALL! just as the song says "it's about the birth of Christ and you can't take that away!" it may have been merged with the winter solstice by the catholic church (which I do not endorse), but to ME it is the celebration of Jesus birthday!
DrummermanForGod 3 months ago
@DrummermanForGod Most importantly, if you really want to be drummer man for God, you have to start with the truth.
natesuetaylor 3 months ago
@natesuetaylor now that I have that out of the way I will answer your question. I know the catholic church put it together, but I look at the heart rather than works, dates, or anything else... if you are truly serving God in spirit and TRUTH then you are going in the right direction! and I know it was not on the 25th of Dec. and I don't know when it was... but that is when I choose to worship my Lords birth, coming to die, and paying our sin debt!
SO, in short, it's the heart that counts!

God Bless. :)
reidboy2009 3 months ago
@Jesusandpandafreak The letter chi ("X") was used by monks in writing, as a shorthand for "Christ," or "Χριστός" as it is spelled in Greek. You can also check out the Wikipedia reference for "Xmas." Please pass it on.
