as one who was there, his opening comment "you guys don't have to be anywhere" was because it was about 1:30 a.m., capping an amazing day of music that began at about 11 a.m.
I remember living in Mexico one summer, studying Spanish in Cuernavaca, and I had to listen to Full Moon Fever every day even though we were supposed to avoid English.
How great is this??? Very Great! indeed!!We need another US Festival and run these corrupt politicians out of office!!Ban the muslims from building in NY.We need Hank Jr for prez!!
Long After Dark is my favorite Petty album of all time. And You Got Lucky is my favorite song...I'm an 80's child, so this album brings back so many memories. I love Tom Petty!!!
It's sad that this album was a very underated album. Tom Petty and the heartbreakers are all together underrated. It's so sad. He's my favorite artist of all time. So when others 'rock' out to TI or whaterver the hell rappers are called, I rock out to Tom Petty. Cause he is actually good!
Long After Dark is starting to grow on more people these days. It only took one listen for me back in the day to fall in love with it. It's better as a hidden gem, than a watershed record. that way, the hardcore Petty fans like us have something that's still truly ours. And it never gets burnt out like Full Moon Fever did, even though it was a great record too.
Part of the reason I think that this album wasn't as successful is because it wasn't marketed effectively. I mean, how do you release You Got Lucky as the single as opposed to Finding Out or Deliver Me? And Iovine really made a bad call axing Keeping Me Alive and Turning Point from the album. I think it could have been a hell of a lot bigger than it was.
I see you've watched the TP Runnin Down a Dream dvd. It's pretty awesome for sure. But in Petty's own words, it wasn't a move forward musically even though all the tunes are great. You Got Lucky is a fine single though. Change of Heart is totally underrated as a hit. But you know, those undervalued records in an artists catalog always have their day. Case in point: Exile on Main Street. Every Stones fan now thinks it's their best. They didn't back in the day.
hey, you and me both.....I listen to Tom Petty everyday, and I love to play on my drum-set to Tom Petty tunes.....Damn the Torpedoes and Hard Promises are my favorite albums of all time from him....

Long After Dark is an amazing album, I don't care what anyone else, including Tom himself, has to say about it.
