  • One of the best for sure although I`m not an expert in this matter but I would like to add that

Mr. Mikhail Barishnikov danced for almost 2 hours, solo in Rio de Janeiro at 2011.

  • It does not seem he has gone to Mikhailovsky - listed still at Mariinsky...

  • After reading some of the comments, I come to the conclusion that this guy was just left behind due to only personal reasons from the ex Kirov Mariinsky ballet director, right??? So unfair for Batalov. I have not experienced this feeling of efortless jumps, perfect jumps, etc in ANY of the other Mariinsky male dancers, not in Malakhov, not Bolle... So I cannot think of any male dancer better than him... He is now quite old, right? Maybe 35, so I guess his time is practically gone now.

  • @natashkk Rumors are that his final performance was on July 21 as Ali in Le Corsaire. The rumors are that he will coach for Mikhailovsky Ballet. Hopefully, he will dance with them sometimes, but his career at Mariinsky seems finished. He is 36 or 37 and Evgeny Ivanchenko graduated in the same class with Batalov and Batalov was the star of their class by a wide margin. Ivanchneko is not retiring and he is the worse dancer by a wide margin & has been a principal for a long time, being much taller

  • @russianballetvideo OMG! Let's hope that he will continue dancing at least at the Mikhailovsky! Such a crime he was mistreated like this by the MT!! I just cannot understand it, why would you prevent such talented dancer from becoming a great star, and hence a lure for the public! It is also the MT interest! Ivanchenko is NOT at his level, nor other of the male dancers in the MT or in any other company! In any case, thank you so much for the information and for these wonderful unique videos!

  • How is it possible that I heard only yesterday about this guy????!!!!!! He is THE BEST male dancer I've seen since Rukhzimatov... He has such a control, perfect turn and jumps, amazing figure (also for princely roles, I guess, he looks quite tall). He seems also to be an excellent partner, although I have not seen many videos of him actually partnering! :( Where can we find MORE of this guy?? I have seen the DQ you have, russianballetvideo, and the pdd with Obraztsova and that is mainly it.

  • What could be better? How could anyone be more effortless than him? One never gets the feeling that even the slightest error will occur because he is so amazing.

  • Once, I had a fortune to watch Batalov's performence with Kirov still around the middle of 90s. It was amazing, unforgetable!!!!!!

  • Thanks so much for explaining!

  • Why the Jerk?

  • @opensecret51 the jerk is fateyev, mariinsky actual director, that in all his life of dancer performed only the jerk in swan lake and the golden idol in bayadere ,not very well among the other things.

  • Each time I am watching him I feel again and again that he is incredible fantastic and it is so upseting how great TALENT and real Art is not taken care off by the ones who have the power to make decisions they are selfish stupid and arrogant!!!

  • @opensecret51 the jerk is not exactly one illuminate king

  • Why has he not moved to a company that will appreciate his enormous talent???

  • @SuperBalletgirl101 probabily loves too much his kirov but ......yes he had to do .

  • Incredible. What do you mean, underemployed, pediatrapaola?

  • @Contrapuntalist HE DANCES VERY FEW NEVER IN PRIME AND NEVER WITH TOP FEMALE STARS ,IS NOT RIGHT BEING THE STRONGER DANCER OF KIROV BALLET

  • BANG! LOOK AT THOSE JUMPS!!!

  • amazing

  • Amazing. SO AMAZING! I want to be like him. Do you know how old he is now?? Because he isn't a principal dancer is he? He should be!

  • @GymnasticDancer Approximately 35.

  • @GymnasticDancer HE IS SO UNDERRATED HE IS ONE OF THE GREATEST DANCER IN THE WORLD,AND SO UNDEREMPLOYED ALSO.

  • @pediatrapaola I cannot think of anyone better than Batalov. I think he is the greatest, but he is not getting younger.

  • @russianballetvideo yes probabily is too late to join other companies and probabily he is happy in his kirov otherwise had done it surely ,probabily is not interested at money and fame that easily could find somewhere else, let's accept what is good for him.

  • @russianballetvideo in 60's iat la scala there wasb an outstanding dancer called mario pistoni at thatv time his tecnique had very few comparation not in italy but in the world,mrB was in love with him as a dancer and invited pistoni to join NYCB in more than an occasion and as a principal surely ,mario always refused.the reason?he wanted to stay in his city his la scala with his family and friends.he was happy there .probabily as batalov.

  • This guy's wayyyy better than tsiskaridze!!!!!!

    bravo batalov!

  • @DancinFeet1994 surely not comparation ,batalov is one of the greatest dancer of the world

  • @DancinFeet1994 NOT ONLY THAN TSISKARIDZE THAT HE BEATED IN MOSCOW BALLET COMPETITION 1987 HE HIS THE BEST KIROV DANCER SINCE SOLOVIEV

  • but this is from a performance not the moscow competition, right?

  • Yes. A competition would not have a full cast of dancers on the stage.

  • magnificent dancer really underrated

  • Nadezhda Pavlova was huge star !

  • Gold in every drop of sweat.

  • I guess this proves, that winning grand prix doesn't make the dancer a huge star. Nadezhda Pavlova (first to win grand prix) was a genious ballerina and one of my favourites, but she was still quite underrated. Tsiskaridze got only the gold medal, but now he is worldwide famous dancer and is often performing with Opera de Paris, which is considered to be the most prestigious theater in ballet world. I think I don't need to mention Baryshnikov, who also didn't get grand prix.

  • You are very knowledgeable.

  • Comment removed

  • in that occasion if the contest had not been in moscow probabily the winner could have been the japanes hideo fukagawa ,watch the videos on you tube MOSCOW BALLETT CONTEST 1969 CLIP NR 2

  • @pediatrapaola

1969 was the first time for Int'l Ballet Competition in Moscow and they didn't invent Grand Prix yet.

Baryshnikov would have beaten Fukagawa anywhere Japan included because he is the greatest ballet dancer of the 20th century.

  • @Shirafune161 AND IN THAT OCCASION MICHA WAS VERY LUCKY BEING HIDEO FUKAGAWA FAR FROM HOME AND THE JUDGES WERE RUSSIANS

  • Wow - look at those beautiful turns, perfectly in place, high up on demi-pointe *and* in time with the music. Wonderful clean, high jumps, too! What a talent, and how sad that we don't see more of him.

  • how sad really ,he is the strongest and the most under rated dancer of the kirov ballet he won moscow gold and grand prix end is not principal

  • Insane that the best in the company is not a principal.

  • for urranus

  • fantastic technique and artistry

    Thankyou for sharing

  • It is curious that with all the plaudits he must get from friends in the audience and company, he does not seek employment with another top company in the world. I should have thought that most of the best companies in the world would seize him immediately as a principal dancing many premieres if he told them he was available. I cannot stop watching him - he is just so incredibly perfect.

  • He is my favorite male dancer, so I agree with you. He never danced Albrecht in Giselle or Siegfried in Swan Lake. They did not even let him dance one time.

  • It is amazing that in class, principal dancers and famous solosits in the Mariinsky Ballet company will applaud him and yell bravo, but the people running the company have let him sink in quick sand.

  • he is good really good he should really go somewhere else

  • At least we could see Makhalina and fall in love with her though the chance to see her becoming less broke my heart.

But this Batalov case is a serious crime for the entire ballet community!

  • A true life tragedy.

  • andrei you are great say byby kirov and go for dollars

  • Well, just another reason to dislike Vaziev, i guess. Makhalina has always been a favorite of mine, and now that I have seen more of Batalov, he definately deserves to dance more. I suppose since he wasn't popular with Vaziev, It is the same with Fateyev?

  • SUPER!

  • uno dei piu'forti danzatori di tutti i tempi ingiustamente sottovalutato nel suo stesso teatro e poco conosciuto all estero, tecnica incredibile veramente.

  • So powerful! and giving his best!

  • he is probabily the strongest kirov dancer winner of a grand priz in moscow and nevar was principal .not right really

  • What an injustice, being rated so highly by the best ballet experts in the world, the best from Russia, the best from France, the best from Denmark, the honored Alicia Alonso, etc, etc. He never advanced past first soloist and hardly ever dances a full length ballet and never goes on Kirov/Mariinsky tours.

Except, possibly Yuri Soloviev, the Kirov never has had a Solor at this level and that includes Nureyev and Baryshnikov.

HOW MANY TIMES HAS BATALOV DANCED SOLOR? ANSWER --- TWO TIMES.

  • This video was from one of those two performances, but Batalov was not considered good enough to dance with one of their best ballerinas. Hwe may not have been considered good enough by Vaziev, but he is the only grand prize winner ever at the Kirov. That sees to contradict Vaziev's opinion. Vaziev did a great job destroying the dancing careers of Batalov and Makhalina. Many people hate Vaziev for what he did to Makhalina's career. She was already prima ballerina when he took chargeShe did less

  • do you have a full class with him by any chance
