Also, what is the meaning of "Aí"? I've only ever seen it as "espera aí," which means something like "wait a second...?" =/

@elfontherun "Aí" has a lot of meanings indeed! :D

1. THERE - "who's there?" = "quem está aí?"

While English has "here" and "there", Portuguese has "aqui" (here), "aí" (there, near you) and "ali" (there, far/away from both of us).

2. THEN - "then I said..." = "aí eu disse..."

3. HEY (slang) - "hey, who are you?" = "aí, quem é você?"

4. CERTAIN, THIS (slang) - examples in the description :)

5. AROUND, THEREABOUTS (specially "por aí")

There's probably more... but I can't remember right now :P

Brazilian portuguese almost has as many slang words as American english. It makes it so difficult to learn! I wish that it was taught in a school nearby, because I would really like to become almost fluent in it. Right now, all I can do is watch videos and pick up certain vocabulary words. However, this can only take me so far. I'm missing out on grammar, and certain words like Já, which have multiple meanings depending on context, keep throwing me off. I wish I had someone to practice with :(

@elfontherun Yeah, that's true, not many schools teach Portuguese :( But I believe there are many useful sites and videos that could help you with that :) I could try to find some, if you're interested...?

By "practicing with someone", you mean writing/reading? Or something like audio/video/real life? :P
