Fred Smoot doesn't have great INT numbers because he does his job. His job is to block the pass or tackle the player who has the ball. Trying for an interception, many times is a risk, whereas blocking the ball is much safer and logical. It all depends on each situation.

Smoot is integral to the Redskin defensive backfield, but it seems to me he only really shines when there's pressure up front. I think he's more comfortable in zone defensive schemes and some man/zone hybrids.

He was mediocre with the Vikings when Mike Tomlin was their defensive coordinator around that time. All in all Smoot is a sound cornerback and regardless of the fact he's not putting up Ed Reed type INT numbers, he knocks down a lot of passes.

If you watch throughly, you'll see some of the tackles in this video weren't even done by Smoot. Like for instance if you watch 1:58 you'll see #24 hits the ball carrier in an upward motion that makes it seem like Smoot made a good chop block, which in all reality Smoot didn't make very much contact. Also at 3:20 watch as Smoot doesn't even make the tackle wat-so-ever. Im sorry but this was a good video but Smoot isn't a Top Notch player

Underrated? This dude is OVERRATED! Fred Smoot is pure garbage. He can't tackle nor lay a hit on somebody. He dives at your legs more than anything, an everytime he gets embarrassed he pulls off some type of injury. He's good as a corner but very overrated.
