@SyrupMabel You live in the Bible Belt?! My heart's out to you from NJ! Most of us here are atheists from Christian or Jewish families living in America. I don't even want to imagine what it's like to be an atheist in a Muslim country, where apostasy is a capital crime punishable by death. There MUST be atheism in the Middle East as well, although it may not be freely expressed for obvious reasons.

@JuggaloAdamSiders A few people actually have the balls to use the "it gives them hope" answer, the only reason they need hope from religion is because they are told they need the reality it comes with in order to be happy. They need that reality as much as a child needs to be told that their best dog-friend was released on a farm instead of the truth. This kind of hope is not only useless and unnecessary but also provides the harmful idea that everything will be fine without intervention.
