ok here is the deal on the diff between tagalog and filipino. tagalog was the main language back then when they still use words like "salungpwet" and shit like that. but then after the philippines got conquered by the spaniards and the americans, Specialy the americans, we adopted some of the words that that we didnt have. for example the word "toothpaste" nd "hotdog". as we adopt more of their language we were forgetting our root till the gov. decided to just combine them and for "filipino".
