This tune was written by Ian Maclachlan from Creagorry, Benbecula, Scotland many many years ago :) It has been recorded by many traditional bands over the years. This Mike Oldfield arrangement is not bad...but please don't credit him with writing the tune!!!

That's so annoying isn't it. Ian Maclachlan wrote a great tune evocative of the Highlands and islands and it comes down to fairy dust here I like Mike Oldfield but I've never seen the point of recording something if you can't add something interesting to it. It's a very hard tune to play with an appropriate feel. Needs the Scots snap and a feel that isn't here.

He made an awesome version of Dark Islands, theres nothing annoying in it. I bet he's completely aware of the original version/writer, and he made his own version. So its a beautiful Mike Oldfield track:)

Well, I'm a fan of Mike Oldfield, I particularly liked his early stuff.

I'm not sure how to express this to you but he's take a tune written by someone else, a tune evocative to many Scots - almost a national anthem or ceremonial tune if you like and he's just done a 'nice' version of it. Sure the tune is pleasant enough and if you like it who am I to say. Mike Oldfield is fine by me.

I like Mike Oldfield. This is one of the great Scots tunes. He does it nicely but lacks the feel to give it appropriate grandeur. Of course its a matter of taste so each to his own.

Beautiful images. I think that the video would be much more affective with just slow dissolves between images. I find the special effects get in the way of the story. Just my opinion.

This beautiful and popular air written for bagpipes was originally called "Dr Mackay's Farewell to Creagorry" by its composer Iain McLachlan. When David Silver of Inverness was asked to write a song for the BBC Scotland TV thriller called the "Dark Island", filmed on Benbecula Uist, he used McLachlan's air and set words to it. Since its first airing in 1963 it has become a classic, recorded by many artists.
