@bmetstud Well, it is light weight and very handy. The recoil isn't bad at all. The downsides are going to be the 3 round capacity plus a very wide spread (lots of shots not on target) and before I would use one for that role I would see if 00 buck shot from that short of a barrel will even penetrate enough to reach vital organs.
@gunut4FMJ Serbus don't actually spread that much more than other (cylinder bore) shotguns. Mine prints 3" patterns at 10 yards with some brands of shell. Just like any shotgun barrel, some brands work good and some are bad. And the velocity is actually only reduced by about 15% to 20%, so 00 definitely still meets FBI criteria. The main problem is that the short barrel makes it too loud. If you shoot a Serbu indoors without hearing protection, you'll probably be deaf for the rest of your life.

@bmetstud Well, it is light weight and very handy. The recoil isn't bad at all. The downsides are going to be the 3 round capacity plus a very wide spread (lots of shots not on target) and before I would use one for that role I would see if 00 buck shot from that short of a barrel will even penetrate enough to reach vital organs.

@gunut4FMJ Serbus don't actually spread that much more than other (cylinder bore) shotguns. Mine prints 3" patterns at 10 yards with some brands of shell. Just like any shotgun barrel, some brands work good and some are bad. And the velocity is actually only reduced by about 15% to 20%, so 00 definitely still meets FBI criteria. The main problem is that the short barrel makes it too loud. If you shoot a Serbu indoors without hearing protection, you'll probably be deaf for the rest of your life.
