  • I saw this Unit many moons ago! Shit i miss the mountain's & mountain railroading, "Memories"!! I live out east now, flat as a table. Thanks for posting this!

  • 50 years later grandpa whats a tunnel motor ahhhhh well ya see a tunnel motor was a magnificant diesal locomotive that could haul almost anything................................................

  • Thanks to Steve Lee and UP Steam for seeing to 5371's preservation.

  • Long live the Black and Gold!!!!! Rio Grande forever!!!!!!

  • The last Rio Grande loco ever (sigh)..........., at least it will stay in it's colors. Thanks for posting this vid.

  • Thanks for the tribute to this historic locomotive! To set the record straight, it is at the Utah State Railroad Museum in Ogden. The Golden Spike Chapter of the Railway & Locomotive Historicals Society just washed it (August 2010), although what it really needs is a new coat of paint.

  • RIP D&RGW Forever LOL

  • awesome.... really felt like I was back in Colorado

  • @qsck Thanks

  • Cool video. Yea 5371 is at the raiload museum in Ogden, Utah. Took some pictures last weekend.

  • my uncle drove that locomotive acouple years ago

  • @mjet401bnsf nice

  • @SP4449BN9444 yea

  • 5371 is now at it's new home Ogden, Utah at the Utah State Railroad Museum

  • I am going to go through Ogden next summer, I will have to pay a visit to it

  • Yes it is by the turntable, and you can see it off the street when you drive into town.

  • It has been parked in the yard for a very long time. I been going to Cheyenne every Monday since Novembe and #5371 is still there. I beleive its abandoned. So sad.

  • is it by the old turntable or something, I am going down and my dad said he was going to take me to see it.

  • I saw DRGW #5371 parked at Cheyenne Wy. It is still there.

  • Do you know how long it will be there? I am going to be in Cheyenne on the 12th and the 17th

  • love the band love the song love rio grande love the vid now im going to watch the music vid

  • Makes me cry.......

  • 1,000 STARS!

This is one if not the most beautiful tribute to Rio Grande, the railroad that I love so much but because of physical, economical, and chronological reasons I could not experience it. I live in Brazil.

There are some SD40T-2s from SP and D&RGW running in Brazil with axles and trucks changed from 1.435m gauge to 1m gauge. They perform great, but nothing better than the US plains with standard gauge railroads in the deserts!

  • thanks

  • Great video. Every-one always is after UP but they do a lot of good stuff to.

  • ya they are probably the best run Class 1 RR right now

  • A classic locomotive. I realy hope UP restore this unit to her original glory.

  • I dont see why they wouldn't

  • sweet...Rio Grande Forever!

  • cool video, last running Rio grande isn't it!

  • Yep but they said they are going to retire it in Denver and never run it again or sumthing

  • They retired her because UP ordered a GEVO numbered 5371 in 12/08

  • I also have the DRGW 5371 from Athearn you might have seen it on one of my videos

    Christian

    Düsseldorf Germany

  • nice vid....

  • Nice Shots!!

  • Thanks for sharing the vid. I really enjoyed it? Keep em coming!!

    Paulie

  • Great video.

  • Wow i didnt think UP cared lol

  • Nice!

  • Nice tribute.

  • I'm guna miss her, only saw it once and thats all i'll ever see her i guess...

  • When I go to Evanston this summer if I do, I am going to ask UP where that engine is and go see or it or go to Utah myself

  • For the record Union Pacific said that this engine is never going to be patched period. It will serve out its career in its current paint and when retired due to age or mechanical failure will go to the Ogden Utah railroad museum.

  • Ya I know, but they should have done that to at least 3 engines of all the railroads it bought like MP,Katy,SP,R&RGW,CNW (even though D&RGW+AT&SF both bought some of SP in the mid 80's before UP bought them in the late 90's)

  • Mechanical failure hit this engine unfourtnatly so far as the ogden museum it is kind of up in the air it is not definate rumors were it was also to stay in colorado but hasn't happened yet last I heard it is still in the cheyenne union pacific steam shop as a honary member of the steam program it has a magnetic patch of a number the guys found in the shop.

  • You mean it malfunctioned? when?

  • It started having wheelslip indicator issues in january then it was moved back and fourth from denver to utah. Offically it was retired on march 8, 2008 marking the end of a long drgw era. Personally I havent heard anything since april or may about 5371's future. Another rumor at one time was the steam shop was going to restore her and use her in passenger specials like the steamers for the up are used for. Her new temp number is 8944

  • omg, I heard bout it but didn't believe it. I started crying almost when I heard it was true. lol

  • When did they put it there? I went there in June and did not see it.

  • They put it there in April im not sure if its done some moving around or not as I have not heard any information about this locomotive in a long time.

  • This is an awesome video collection! 5*****

  • Nice photo's... it's a good thing to have a lot of photos of things that will all to soon disapear.

    Keep up the good work!

  • nice pic's!

  • cool to still see 2 of those DR&GW units out and about! good video!

  • not anymore, DRGW is offically gone.

  • Ya D&RGW was bought out in the 90's
