@washy91 it seems to differ, apparently he's been seen using western and semi-western clearly, I think it's semi-western, his grip size could be a little smaller making it appear western, possibly, but just my opinion
Hey Will, what I have been having trouble with is Forehands that I have to hit that are in 3/4 across the service line to the singles line. Because I have typically used an open stance and hit a WW forehand. But what I noticed Novak doing is using a topspin forehand when he is in the open stance, is this what I should do, or is it okay to use a WW forehand in the open stance?
Interesting thing about Djokovic's forehand is it's never exactly the same. I've seen him play 3 times now. His forehand is a mystery because he can hit a variety, the classic flat, the over-exaggerated WW (my fav), the nadal over head follow through, and even a horizontal WW. Very hard to mimic because most recreational players need to stick with one forhand and do that one forehand well.
Nope. I hope those who read your comment know. It appears to be more extreme than the traditional semi-western grip, but there's no way his hand is all the way under the grip, which is what a full western is.
I know for one thing, Novak's hitting with a lot of topspin. I agree that his forehand grip is still considered semi-western because he has an attractive forehand to watch. Most full western grips I see are ugly, and don't seem as clean and penetrating as semi-western grips.
Sorry, I think this is a beautiful forehand, so balanced and easy to swing, He loads his swing with the unit turn and then almost effortlessly releases into the stroke and finishes. Perfect form, a model I'm going to try my best to copy.
He's mm from hitting the frame on a couple of those FHs. When you're that far off center, no racket is going to help you and it's going to twist in your hand.
Something is off with his timing and confidence. He might be blaming the new racket (we all like to do that), but I'm sure it's not the problem.
There is no such thing as a top spin grip (to my knowledge at least). Every forehand grip should give way to top spin and every forehand swing should be in a windshield wiper formation.
Yes he does on many forehands. Grips by themselves don't create topspin. What they do is affect how you swing at the tennis ball -- extreme grips generally result in a more vertical swing plane and more "brush" against the back of the ball. That's why extreme grips are said to produce more topspin than conservative grips.
Aside -- lets not get personal folks. Keep the discussion mature.
Yes he does what on many forehands? Have a topsin grip? I didn't realise that people used a grip that didn't want to favor topspin throughout their swing pattern. I mean, I don't use an extreme western grip because one it's uncomfortable, and two I don't want that much spin on every single shot. I definitely want topspin on my forehand.. maybe we're getting lost in transit here.
i heared from the best tennis magasine from our country that he is thinking about geting an adidas racquet ...his contract is not finished but he said that his head is not so good for him
he is using some prototype racquet. and adidas barricade racquets aren't very reputable either. he should try some other heat racquets like the radical pro to avoid some contract violation.
It appears his forehand is between semi-western and western, but definitely closer to semi-western.

When you see a slow motion Forehand, you can really see the details
you can see exactly how pros hit.
e.g.) monfils and tsonga uses more of a wind shield wiper while it seems federer directly contacts the ball.

not the best forehand but definitely top 25 or so

from the way the racquet wraps around his body. 100% positive his grip is extreme western.

From the way you judge grips that players use, I'm 100% certain that you're not 100% certain.

Excellent video and better forehand.
You can see clearly his western grip (moderate) and how he rotates his forearm in every shot.
Unfortunately there are not high balls. Al are hit at waist level or lower.

@eddiek2206 he' using extreme semi-western not western look at his finger and the bevel and he turns his wrist after a forehand

Is it just me, or does it seem that the head racquet twists and warps on his forehand a lot more than it did with his k blade?

SublimeSimplicity 2 years ago
Actually I've held the new racket and on it is printed "Beam: 18 mm"
So it is thinner and softer and therefore perhaps it is indeed more prone to warping.

interesting how he bends much lower for his backhands then his forehand
