What people mostly misunderstand about capoeira is that it's not ONLY capoeira that's used when fighting. Half of street-capoeira is grappling and on the ground, and uses Brasillian Jiujitsu. And people think 'there's no contact, how can it be effective' - there's no contact, because we're taught to get out of the way - and IF you get hit, it hurts (I suffered multiple fractures to my ribcage from a single kick - they're fast, and VERY strong).
