Two memories: in Bezerkeley in '69: bumper stickers: (1) Trouble ahead-Jerry's in red (that appeared within 24 hrs. after he showed in a maroon T), and (2) Great bass, Lesh Philling (!)
seen them on the fairwell tour just after the death of jerry. im sure it wasnt quite the same with out him there but still one of the best concert memorys i have
So mellow and relaxing. This song get's better evreytime i hear it.Cool harmonies great guitar work and very nice arranging.I was GRATEFUL to have seem them once in toronto june 30 1984 at canada's wonderland.
they make it look oh so easy, We've all seen people work harder with less gratifying results. Says something about their expertise, "grateful" to have been alive during their era and to have attended over 25 shows.
Thanks for making this great vid work with the 'Tube! Another great gathering. I thank God it was my beautiful fate to have seen them twice. What great communal music!!
A grate song always but especially so in these troubled times. Bobby was always high it seemed and yes, we had fun. I've thanked God many times for this incarnation at this time, with the richness & depth of this music that I've been able to experience in such a transformative way. @ Andromeda, I've raised my kids on this too and in fact, they've taken me to hear Dark Star Orchestra...check them out. Peace, Steve

Always a great Classic to revisit. Just watched Weir & chorus of school for the Blind do this. How time flies. I started seeing Bobby the year following this. Weir all getting there methinks .... fingers crossed for the afterlife here ;-)

It has never hit me before how much Bob Weir looks like George Jones. It is his straight-forwardness and sincerity which adds to the similarity. Duh. Great video and footage. Oh so sweet. Thanks
Whoa mule! What a botched harmony when the vocals come in after the jam. And this is a killer version, concert video footage. Dead at their best. It's funny, not the most rehersed band in the world and that is why they were so beloved in some ways.
And how high is Bobby flying? I mean, Jesus - - his eyes are PURE black. Take another dose, Bobby. Phew. Just looking at him makes me start to trip out. Funny guy, true warrior.
you maybe still can! the Dead do tours still, only instead of one of the greatest guitarists ever (Jerry Garcia) they had to fill in with TWO of the greatest guitarists ever (Warren Haynes and Jimmy Herring, from Gov't Mule and Jazz Is Dead, respectively)!!! I saw them in 2004 with my father, who was an old deadhead... and he said it was BY FAR the BEST Dead show he'd ever seen! Quite an experience

@TheOnlyAndromeda - you should thank your dad for introducing you to this music - this was a magical time to grow up - there was so much great music back then -these guys were just one of many great live bands
That week was one of the most glorious and memorable weeks of my life. Saw 6 of 8 Dead shows at RCMH: worst seat - 6th row right in front of Jerry; best seat - 2nd row right in front of Jerry. These shows - because of the acoustic sets - and the shows in 77-78 were "the Mott's." Yeah, I wasn't on the scene yet in 70-72.
Did Brent ever use an acoustic piano onstage? I know in the late 80's he had a digital piano, but all the footage I've seen of them from the early 80's, he just a Fender Rhodes.
In the 100+ shows I saw Brent Mydland with the Grateful Dead from 79-89 I never saw Brent play an acoustic piano. That was an aspect of the GD that was sorely missed after the departure of Keith & Donna.
Now that's interesting...in some of the photos and concert footage I've seen from circa 84-86, like on the So Far video, it looks like Brent has an electric grand piano. It kinda looks like a Yamaha CP-70 (the model Keith was using during 77-78), but it looked like it was in a brown wood body. Was that some kind of early digital piano or what?
Exactly 31 years ago I was sitting in the crowd enjoying this show...
This was a Treat...
