  • I'm certain 2 people misclicked.

  • Dave Grohl's favourite pixies album is TLM!!! He knows stuff!!!

  • No kim, that sux.

  • i love all their stuff. I think there's some real magic on bossanova (hangwire, ana, alison, and VELOURIA for god's sake!)

And TLM has some fucking gems (eiffel, palace of the brine, motorway to roswell)

They hit a deeper emotional level on their later stuff that isn't as frequent on the first ones...

  • what song plays at the end?

  • @CTCJakinator No. 13 baby by of course the awesome pixies

  • no interviews with kim?

  • god the only reason I'm watching this is that Trompe got me back into pixies and reallly music in general after several years of emotional draught, i had doolilttle and some of their other stuff but just couldn't get back to that place but listening to Navajo Know and how they were starting to do weird psychadelic experiments , i swear until i watched this i thought "its okay that they broke up since trompe was their first album when they were stilll raw and experimental until they went pop"

  • some great things came out of there break up though. Frank Black, The Breeders and i bet other stuff i dont even know about. Now there back togther and i really hope they do a show here sometime, it would be my dream to see them play.

  • ENERGY....and what's that chance of the 4 of them bumping into each other in the first place.....that to me is the dynamic part of it.

  • can anyone tell me what is the track playing at the end of this - the video does not play it tho it cuts off??

  • @Borkeman06 That's "No. 13 Baby" off the Doolittle album.

  • You can't say that The Pixies are great because they have such a unique sound and range of styles, and then complain when they put out an album that sounds different. I'm being honest when I say that I like all of their albums and will sometimes prefer Trompe Le Monde (for example) over something like Doolittle. A band with their talent should not be confined to one genre or sound!!!

  • @scaredypicker Well said Sir. How right you are.

  • Trompe Le Monde was one of their best, what the fuck are they talking about? The best was yet to come. But it was not to be, at least we have what they gave us and that's enough.

  • Two people think Bono is the pinnacle of modern Rock.

  • where's the kim deal interviews? bossanova is my fav album!

  • Pixies and ABBA? What?

  • NO ITS NOT LIKE ABBA YOU RETARD

  • @m579064 ... Wheat he means is that ABBA was fresh and totally defined something new... In that sense, so did the Pixies... They came along and defined a new format.

  • no kim deal ????

  • i appreciated this documentary, but they really push the fact that the first albums were the best and the later albums were not nearly as good, i think bossanova was a good album.

  • "I'm a born-again boot-stomping witch-humper."

  • can anyone tell me the name of the instrumental song that ends the interview? Love the pixies...

  • Why is Bono so unlikable...Oh yeah he's a prick

  • The Pixies are a lot like Haley's Comet. A band of this caliber only comes around once in a GREAT while. When they do, they are really a sight to behold! Thank you soooo much Pixies!!! I will treasure your music forever.

  • Comment removed

  • Wher is My Mind I love that song.

  • 2:43 haha lol

  • It's too bad they didn't interview Kim for this documentary. It was probably made before she and Francis made amends.

  • Velvet Underground, Talking Heads, NYDOLLS, all of them amazing...the Pixies also....so unique, and so genuine..........some musicians just have that must-have-sold-their-souls-to-the-devil-to-be-that-good quality.......or maybe they all just truly love making music.

  • Pixies don't have a bad song

  • that last picture of the band is great.

  • Can anybody please tell me what's the song playing for the last 10 seconds at the end of this video? Thanks.

  • the problem with Trompe Le Monde is that it's awfully front-loaded , the first 7 songs are instant Pixies classics the rest...well, they do grow on you, but aren't particularly memorable.

  • the first and last time twice lol x

  • what's that song at the end of clip...i just can't REMEMBER!! it's making me crazy

  • no. 13 baby

  • what's that last song?!!! i just can't REMEMBER

    ...it's making me crazy!!

  • @danijels74 "No. 13 Baby"

  • Whose production is this? BBC?

And I really love all of their albums, can't really rank them. I think it's about expectation - if you're a fan of the Pixies and then Tromple Le Mond comes out and it's not really what you expect of them - then you're dissapointed. But when I got to know the Pixies I already have the full discography, and find it easier to accept Trompe as the harder side of that group. Totally underrated.

It will be rated once a new album comes out!

  • Channel four 2001.. Yep I agrree Trompe le Monde ( /they/ did indeed) is underrated, big time. subbacultcha!

  • Oops!

  • I don't understand all the lukewarm feelings people have about Trompe Le Monde. It would be nice if Kim was more noticable on there. But other than that, I hardly see it as an indication of them slumping.

  • There's a band from Vancouver called Mother Mother that picks up where the pixies left off, in my opinion. At least vocally.

  • 'Letter To Memphis' is one of my favorite Pixies songs- and it shows that Trompe Le Monde' is still a very worthy record!

  • This is the first and last time i'm going to speak of this subject...It was an orgasm of music that ocurred in the 80's, it started vibrantly and intense,...it had moments of rhythmic beauty,...and ended leaving you solemn, questioning your purpose, your existence here and in space. And you will never be able to repeat that orgasm again. A human sociological movement. Keep it in your memories and cherish it.

  • Pixies!!!!

  • i loved surfer rosa the most and dolittle was awesome. tromp le monde and bossanova were less awesome but still had some extraordinary tracks.. U mass, tame, planet of sound, alec eiffel, tromp le monde, somethign against u

  • 1:12... Avatar

  • this is how i would scale their album from best to worst:

    1.Surfer Rosa

    2.Come on Pilgrim

3 tied between Dolittle and Tromp le Monde

    4Bossnova

they are all great albums though.

  • I agree but sometimes my opinion changes between which one is the best. Sometimes I think Come on Pilgrim is the best. Like I said it changes from time to time.

  • yeah i know whatcha mean, depends on my mood.

  • Good list, but here's mine

    1. Doolittle

    2. Surfer Rosa & Come on Pilgrim

    3. Trompe Le Mode

    4. Bossanova

  • nice! on any given day list of what i think their best record is changes, and today i think i would choose the list youve made.

  • trompe le monde isnt my fav of theirs but i think it was totally amazing album, i dont understand why so many dislike it...Bossnova is definitely their worst and yet it was still a good album.but nothing can touch their first three records.

  • TROMPE LE MONDE is probably my favorite. People always have to conjure up a downfall, even in an impecable band without one single bad album.

  • LOL,The Pixies Might Actually be in the Rock'n Roll Hall of Fame for real! i was Joking when i said it, but i found out that they Might be inducted in 2013

  • Lol @ Thom Yorke..

    "It's eddducational.. brilliant!"

  • somthings up with bowies eyes

  • He's got heterochromia.

  • 8:27-8:50 says it all

  • i just miss kim in this :(

  • She was too strung out to talk at this point.

  • thanks alot For the 5 Videos MaliMokriZbun! (if that is indeed your real name) XD Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame Make way for the Pixies!!! (I Wish)

  • Ugh, obviously the makers of this doc didn't have the right to use any other Pixies material than that *one* gig in 1988. Kinda deflated the whole thing as I had actually hoped to get to hear some of the later stuff as it was being brought up. Guess I'll have to do a search or two on YouTube...

  • What is the name of the last song? When they are showing the older pic of the band.

  • its the last part of No. 13 Baby

  • all f.. 5 parts are off sync

    damnit

  • pity they knock trompe le monde i love it as i love all of their albums

i can't choose a favourite its like picking a favourite child but i think TLM is as good if not better than the rest and i know adam buxton feels the same

  • i dont maek sness but i Kilele TEH BONeh oLOLOo!!!

  • i can hardly undermand wat ur are sayong

btu srsly BONO is TEh N00B!!!! one!111!!

  • Excellent doc.

  • Shame that this doc slammed the last album...I like all the pixies stuff. It's just so different and doesn't sound dated at all.

In my opinion the mark of truly great artists is to be able to capture expression in a way that is everlasting.

  • yourlastopinion-- I wouldn't say they "slammed" it. It just didn't quite compare to the first couple albums. Pixies are my favorite band and I will admit that too. It was time for them to give it a rest. Glad they are back touring though!!

  • @yourlastopinion

do you know the name of the instrumental song that ends the clip? Love the pixies.

  • @froggydogs it's part of No. 13 baby, which is part o doolittle

  • @pilinsucioconqueso thats my favorite song from the pixies

  • poland greetings all pixies fun from all over the world

  • i actually like trompe le monde because it makes such a great sound and gives a very loud and punkish sound.

  • Doolittle = Greatest album of all time...

  • where is kim?

  • why is this documentary sh!tting all over the last two albums?? theyre fcking fantastic!

  • You weren't paying attention to the doc. Watch again.

  • thom yorke @ 2:42 is great

  • Ah Christ I love these guys. It gets no better. Frank's first couple solo albums are spectacular as well.

  • cult of ray, pistolero, black letter days, frank black and the catholics, bluefinger, bluefinger and dog in the sand are also phenomonal frank black/black francis albums!

  • They are great ..... but do not campare to Teenager of the Year or the self titled

  • Very true, but Bluefinger and Svn Fingers are rank up there with those...Teenager of the Year is possibly the greatest albums of all time IMO. Every song is just excellent!

  • To me Bluefinger seems almost a .... like an overview of his musical career. The first two songs very Pixies .... next two very Teenager of the year ...... then Cult of Ray & so on. I love it as well. Frankie can do no wrong by me. WELL ...... the country-ish tunes he did while in Nashville are not my fave ... but the rest is gold.

  • anything he does is turns into gold. his country-ish tunes took a little getting used to, but when i gave them the time and listened to them, they are still very well done and good songs. i love the pixies and frank black's solo stuff so much. are the pixies and frank black/ black francis popular amongst youth these days? i am fifteen years old and this is my favorite music in the world. pretty much nobody in my school has heard of the pixies or frank black in my school. it sucks...

  • NO WAY DUDE!! The fact that you know them & others around you do not only says that you are way cooler then wveryone else. It was exactly the same when I started listening to them (late 80's). The Pixies are that much more special to me because they were always MINE..you keep exploring music that others do not know. Once you are older you will be highly respected for your taste & collection.

  • just the fact that i am the resident pixies fan at my school makes their music even MORE amazing! what bands do you recommend for those who like the Pixies?

  • Yay! You're special cause you're different... Just like everyone else.

  • What a fucking nerd. Go drink bleach.

  • YAY! You're special cause you're different... Just like everyone else.

  • AND..chicks eat that sort of thing up. Individuality I mean. Good luck to you my "Pixies" brother! PS. it is the best music I have ever heard too. Rev's my very soul.

  • it's such great music! it never gets old. i can just listen to them all day every day and the songs still feel fresh...

  • "..chicks eat that sort of thing up". What do you mean?

  • Individuality ....... being different. People are attracted to things that do not fit in (perfectly) ..... THEN everybody copies it & it becomes the norm. The trick is to stay ahead of trends. Be seperate from them. Always do your OWN thing as much as possible. The only thing more attractive to woman then confidence is individuality.

The Pixies "cup" was overflowing with both.

  • I don't really think that it just pertains to females exclusively. I'm pretty sure any guy who can think for himself really digs things that are strange from the norm, so guys eat that kind of stuff up too.

  • Sorry funky .... who said it pertained to only to females? Cuz I missed that part. I was having a (specific) discussion with Cracker.

  • No comment? Suddenly not such a big mouth?

  • You took my comment out of context.

  • Are you one of those people who like to start fights on here?

  • I wonder why they didnt interview Kim at all...

  • Well, she didn't exactly have the best time with the Pixies... She felt creativly restrained and wanted to write more songs, but Black Francis wouldn't have it. I was kind of surprised they didn't talk about some of that conflict in the documentary...

  • Maybe Frank Black getting really fat is Karma, then. J/K

  • Haha, I know you're kidding, but come on now... Black is a talented guy, and really the Pixies were his thing from the start. Besides, Deal got the Breeders.

  • Check out the breeders doc on youtube.. Its all Kim and Kelly.

  • what is the last song played in this documentary?

It sounds so great, if any one knows, please post.

  • It's the outro to "No. 13 Baby" off of Doolittle.

  • Pixies Fo Sho!

  • sweet
